⚠ Vulnerability discovered in Tangem wallet

The white hat hacker team Ledger (DonjonLedger) has identified a vulnerability in Tangem card wallets that allows for a “tearing” attack—bypassing the PIN code brute force protection mechanism.

What they found out:

– The “tearing” attack works by cutting off the chip's power supply at the moment when an incorrect PIN entry should be recorded. If the power is turned off, the attempt is not counted.
– This allows up to 2.5 attempts per second instead of waiting for a delay when errors occur.
– The time required to crack the code is greatly reduced: for example, a 4-digit PIN can be cracked in about an hour instead of several days.

Tangem's position:

– The company acknowledges the DonjonLedger report but considers the threat to be more theoretical than real.
– Physical access to the card and special equipment are required to carry out an attack.
– Tangem devices do not support firmware updates, so the vulnerability cannot be eliminated.

– Use a strong PIN with letters, numbers, and symbols, rather than a short numeric code.
– Keep your devices in a secure location and prevent physical access by third parties.
– Understand that risk depends on password complexity: the longer and more complex the password, the higher the level of security.

Unfortunately, I am not able to complete KYC for technical and regional reasons (Veriff / IP / geo restrictions), even though my USDT has a very low risk score. In this situation the exchanger is unlawfully holding my funds and ignoring my messages instead of offering a fair solution. this exchanger behaves like a scam project. They systematically freeze users’ funds under the pretext of AML/KYC checks, ignore support requests and then silently remove or bury negative reviews about themselves on forums, review platforms and monitoring sites.
