Stealing to give to the poor. Is it right?

I have a friend who was elected into a political office. Before he was elected he was well known for his uprightness and integrity. Now, his new office is filled with corruption in the form of looting of government funds. He told me that when the allocation from the central government comes, the chairman of the local government will call them and give them a large amount for their upkeep. But they still receive their monthly salary and allowance.

He is well aware that the allocation was for the development of the local government, but he is forced to take it since almost all the elected officers are collecting it. The first time he rejected the money, he received a threat that he would be impeached or violently attacked. This is because his colleagues are scared that he might reveal the corruption that is going on in the local government.

My friend decided to set up a foundation that gives scholarships and builds schools. With the illegal funds, he usually receives every month, he has been able to finance the education of many poor students in his ward and has also built and refurbished a few schools.

He knows that those funds he receives are illegal but he vowed not to use them for his personal needs. What is your opinion on this matter?

This is not some Robin Hood story here. Stealing is stealing no matter what the outcome might be. Nothing justifies the act of stealing. As one who claims to be stealing and giving to the poor can as well one day steal for himself since it’s no big deal for him. The mindset is already there so it will be easy doing it the other way round

As far as he is  not using this money for his own personal gain I don't think he is stealing, since he is returning the money for a foundation for the use of the masses he is doing the needful because the public fund belongs to the citizens.

It is true that if one does not commit corruption but for some reason he has to accept the money of corruption then he is definitely liable there. Actually I do not include any bad work but if I receive a part of the money from that work then I myself am equally guilty there. If I confess my weakness here and enjoy that money or use it for some other purpose, there will be an equal crime. So if you see any corruption, it is better to protest there. But one more thing everyone should think that even if it is for the sake of saving life or job, corruption has to be done, otherwise there is a risk of life being endangered sometimes, there is no justification for not accepting the money of corruption. No one can do anything in this case. I think if he uses that money for some good cause then there is no way to blame him.

It is not as easy like you think, it all depends on the level of corruption in that state. If it is a state whereby the own system and every sector is corrupt and you found yourself not as a top government officials it won't be easy to fight this top politicians because they are majority and at this point you will be confused. I'm not justifying corruption or in support for people to do wrong thing.

If the power is not what you can't fight and if you don't want to partake in stealing, it is better to use that fund for the masses, there is nothing wrong with it and doing so I think it is beginning fight against corrupt practices. The essence of governance is for the people to feel the impact of leadership. Using money that is meant for the public it means you are not betraying the people which they can have hope in you over other corrupt leaders.

Politics is a one way thing which is either you join them or you avoid them, so regardless of whatever you choose is for them, and if you are running for any elected position, the first thing that you should know is that, are you ready to take all that comes from and with that position and if you are unable to answer this question or your answer is somewhat a No, then you should just let go of politics and let those who are prepared for the dirty games take over the affairs of the state, and for the individual who is involved in this dirty deal but using his own portion of the money to support the poor, at least he is a better evil among all the other greedy ones, which is what really matters, governance is all about giving back to the people and in this regard the ops in this story is doing a good job and whenever the law cash up with them, even if he gets the same purnisment he will at least know that he spent the money for a Worthy cause.

You don't deserve to be blamed for not having faith or not being able to trust anything regarding politicians because of what they have done to us. But you forgot one thing, he is OP's friend and I believe if they were best friends, they would understand each other very well. I mean, I don't think OP is so naive that he can't tell if his best friend is a good or bad person. OP knows his friend better than we do, and if he believes what his friend says then we have no reason to doubt him.

When it comes to politicians, we all think of those in power, but in reality it is not so, there are still many politicians living a life of poverty and misery in my country.

Politics isn't a bad game, if we're to critically deep our minds into politics from the angle of "what ought to be from what it is" you will want to appreciate politics the more. It will be hard to believe any politician in today's world unless they work on the money they take, if they don't, they are just like the people who steal for their benefit. Op may be correct, though, as there are still decent politicians who put the needs of their voters first. Op claimed that because his friend vowed he would never use the stolen money for his expenses, he created an organization with illegal funds to build schools and provide scholarships. But since politics is full of people who aren't sure they care about the homeless, I do have the feeling that his friend isn't utilizing all the illegal funds to help the poor.

Yes, stealing is stealing, whether it's to help the poor or to keep for themselves, but I don't think that it's wrong when politicians steal to help the poor because they are scarce in this world, most of them only steal to add to their own pockets and have no concern what happens to the poor who are suffering because they don't have good jobs that will pay well. Since politicians never fulfill their promise, to be honest, I can even offer prayers for someone who steals to help those who are struggling.

Well even though I understand his dilemma from the threats he got from his colleagues when he refused to collect the corrupted monies but he can't be thinking that he is or won't be benefiting from such money. Those schools that he built would have graduants who would eventually make it tomorrow and remember him, pay homage to him and more. And if not even in good will because people will be thanking and appreciating yet he knows he wouldn't have been able to receive such accolades and good will if not for the top ups he was getting. Such is the dilemma of life because I have also heard of people who resigned in such tight corrupt situation

Yes you are right. No matter the good intention and colouration of a crime doesn't make it to become a good deed because if we refer to the story abinitio, those who were sharing government money or tax payers money were doing that at the detriment of the people who would have been getting social amenities like hospital where they can go and be properly treated probably at a cheaper rate and not to self medicate that would lead to death or shorten their lives. If the foundation that he sets up is from the money that is being allocated to his office for the purpose of developing his local government area or constituent then you can't say he is stealing to feed the poor he is actually doing his job because building schools and paying the school fee's for people is actually the best investment that someone can make in his life time, the fact is that politicians all over the world steals and are corrupt and only do things that will promote their political influence and drive home their political agenda so the best politicians we have are the once that are sympathetic to the plight of the masses so they squize small thing out of what they have stolen from the masses, so if the person you're referring to had pity on his people and still build school then he is a sympathetic politicians

You are fighting a corrupt system with corrupt law enforcement agencies and compromised court. The police is controlled by corrupt politicians and the court give favorable judgement to the highest bidder. The press lack freedom and most journalist are intimidated a s others are sent to prison for saying the truth.

The only way to fight the system is to leave the country with your family and expose the corrupt system from the country your moved to. Most truthful journalist on my country have left the country so that they can be free from intimidation. Or you decide to sacrifice your life and be willing to accept any consequence..
