Current Discussion: AFCON 2025 Qualifiers - CAF.

The group stage of the AFCON qualifiers starts officially on 4th of September which isn't far away, the national teams have been preparing and there are news from all angles that needs to be discussed so we can keep up with what's happening. Stories from the Nigerian camp is being rumours of list of players being selected and there are other news that we should be discussing as we anticipate the start of the tournament (AFCON qualifiers).  As always lets try to keep the thread clean off spam and as soon as the thread is about to turn into a mega thread, it'll be locked and a new thread will be open to keep a healthy discussion space.

Parent Discussion: World Cup qualifiers - CAF

Introduction: Don't you just hate it when the international break comes and as an African, you feel left out because there isn't a discussion thread for we Africans to discuss international Sport/football tournaments like our counterparts. Well that feeling should be a thing of the past as this thread will serve as a dedicated hangout joint for discussion by all forum users (both Africans and foreigners) interested in Africans in sport.

This thread will be updated with everything Africa Sport/football worth discussing, each tournaments, round fixtures, table standing etc. Feel free to drop your prediction on table toppers, match winners and discussion as any tournament progresses etc.

thanks for bringing this up. This was the same humble suggestion I made in the local board yesterday when I searched for the parent thread that was used for most of our African sports discussion and discovered it was locked. Unfortunately, my thread was deleted and I can't even explain why it was deleted. At least I will take this as potential response to that effect though it's just not proper that most of our top admin aren't open to sincere contribution of members of the local board who are only seeking how to make the local board a strong wing of the forum.

That being said, this is a very welcomed development as Thier are a lot of event that's already unfolding in the build up to this current edition of the AFCON. The Nigerian appointment of a new head coach has been a trending topic most expecially in preparation for the 7th and 10th September games against Benin republic and Rwanda respectively. The choice of the teams selected including seeing osimehn on the list when his current issue with the x supper eagles coach, finidi George is still unclear and people would have expected a disciplinary measure to be mated on him before he plays again for the eagles.

The portfolio of the current supper eagles coach is also a factor to be concerned about with news that he lacks the basic experience of heading a national team most expecially at this time when both the AFCON and the world cup qualifyer is all at stake. This journey is going to be fully fun and exciting. After following up fully on the euros and enjoying everything that comes with the journey, it's going to be an interesting one to see what happens at this year's addition of the AFCON at Morocco.

A concern every Supers Eagles  fans mutually share and to me it's worrisome that of all managers it was Bruno Labbadia that the NFF could consider picking for the job at this critical stage that Nigeria's qualification is shaking on a tread line. Does it mean the NFF don't prioritize experience as a  part of their criteria?  If the NFF were to consider taking the risk of  a coach with no national team coaching experience one would have thought it better that they had fallen back to an indigenous coach at least. We can't afford to not qualify to the AFCON and the WC again! I hope Mr Bruno Labbadia prove us wrong cause that's what a lot of us would really like to witness in the coming days.

This is the recent rumours linking to Victor Oshime. He has been linked with a Saudi Arabian club offering him this figure in the above image, while Chelsea are also in contact with him regardless of this offer from the Saudi Arabian Club. As a fan fond of Manchester United, I wouldn't want to see Victor Oshime joining Chelsea again after that game I finally saw against Wolverhampton during the weekend. ( Yes, I'm being baised ) I would love him to  take the offer from Saudi and after a season or two, he can return back to European Competitions. His move to Saudi Arabia will not stop him from getting the call from Nigerian football during Afcon and other international Competitions.
What re your honest opinion about his move to Chelsea or Saudi Arabian Premier League Competition? In conclusion, money is not everything but this money is a bloody huge bucks of racks. Offers like this come just once in a while, hopefully he grabs and seize the chance by the balls. What are you opinions?!

Victor Osimhen has already declined the offer of the Saudi Arabian team so we are still waiting to see if Chelsea can finalize the terms of his contract but saying that he should consider joining the Saudi league and return back to Europe after one or two seasons doesn't make any sense to me because Even if he earns huge amount at Saudi Arabia but it can't be measured with the fame he's already enjoying in Europe so signing for the Saudi club will jeopardize his football career because even if he returns to European clubs in the future but by then he must have lost the interest of bigger teams and his market value so only small clubs that will reach out to him by then.
You've already said that money is not everything, perhaps Victor Osimhen has also made huge money and influence to himself so I wonder what will entice him to join the Saudi league if not money of which he already has money so all he needs is to become more visible to top European teams after all he's still 25 years of age so he should enjoy more playing time at Europe before considering a move to Saudi league just like some other great players that joined the Saudi league after they have already played more better in Europe clubs and were getting old.

Thank you for starting this thread, it was very much needed. The big news coming out of the Nigerian football federation is that they have hired a new coach, Bruno Labbadia, the German was the former coach of Stuttgart, though i don't know so much about this manager, neither am i sure if he has been successful in his previous jobs, but i wish him all the best with the Nigerian national team.

Labbadia's first game is against Benin in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin on September 7th, it is a big game for Nigeria and they have to start this qualification round with a win.

Let's just hope for the best with this new coach, but it will not be far fetched from what we've had before.

That money that he's being offered is too much to reject, although there are reports of him rejecting them but we can't say anything is concrete until the here we go comes out. At Chelsea, he's going to become a legend easily because he's always going to be a starter and the team will be built around him but his salary can't be up to that of Al Ahli. Football is all about the money right now and turning down a life changing money can be hard for a player from his background. I just hope any choices he takes is of his and not his agent.

The Nigerian appointment of a new head coach has been a trending topic most expecially in preparation for the 7th and 10th September games against Benin republic and Rwanda respectively. Osimhen not being on the list would had cause alot of chaos among the fans. He's our best player in the squad, judging him just because he didn't make a direct impact in the last AFCON isn't fair. He was the target man but had lots of players defending him thereby giving others an opportunities to have a better impact which lookman took advantage of very well and scored. Osimhen was till an important part of the team that went to the final. He has to be the first name on the list whenever a call up list comes out.

Let's just hope for the best with this new coach, but it will not be far fetched from what we've had before.
In this case we don't need to start blaming anything on the NFF, we can't just stand against them right now, back then we all wanted our own local breed coach for the team, after bringing in Finidi George what did we get as the outcome, the stats are now reflecting that coaches from outside are obviously the best to manage the team. Nigerians were brutally disgraced during the coaching session of Finidi, I think the NFF are no longer ready to take another chance when we are left with very little privileges to make it to the world cup.

This new coach has a lot tied to his hands, him having his first game just too early with no friendly to test out his tactics, we can't judge it from here but hope for the best to happen and if we do not get the desired outcome as early then we can't blame the new coach because he was less prepared on this task.

Opportunities like this comes once like you said but don’t you think that if he accepts this offer from them it’ll affect his coming back to the European league? First of all, you said you are been biased and secondly you want him to come back to the European side after enjoying those money. Don’t you think the bias you’re been now will only make him lose interest by top clubs in the European sides? He can neglect this offer now and if he’s still at his prime which I know he will be, he can still get a good offer from any Saudi club side. However, they’re playing to make money but there are some decisions that you’ll need to be careful before making them because it’ll serve as what will determine your best position in the future and what you wish to achieve and how you get to achieve them.

I prefer Victor Osimhen to remain in the European league because this is the prime of his career and it is only in the European league he can make a better name for is career. If Victor Osimhen moves to Saudi Arabia he's gonna make lot of money but he won't be heard like if he should be in the European league. I feel the Saudi Arabia league is much better for player's who have already make name in the European league then choose to go the Saudi Arabia to make money before getting retired from football. For me I think Victor Osimhen will be better for Chelsea even if we can tell what Chelsea will be upto this season. The European league is very competitive and it will be good for a young player like Victor Osimhen.

If Victor Osimhen choose to go for Saudi Arabia because of the high wage he may lose focus  to build good career because their is no serious competition in Saudi Arabia co.pare to European league.

At a point, we felt Poseiro was a bad choice, but he ended up being good. We also felt Finidi George was a good option for the Super Eagles, but it ended up being a bad choice. For this new choice, Mr. Bruno, we just have to trust the NFF's decision.

If Victor Osimhen choose to go for Saudi Arabia because of the high wage he may lose focus  to build good career because their is no serious competition in Saudi Arabia compared to the European League.
Do we think Osimhen can win anything more? The Saudi money is very tempting. If he moves to Chelsea and Enzo Maresca doesn't favor him, that will affect his worth.

I am concerned of his performance under the new super eagles coach and how he can help us make qualifications.

I beg to disagree on this particular matter, currently Victor Osimhen career is becoming soar because of his last poor performance last season when his club Napoli couldn't make it to the top 4 and it is obvious his poor performance is the reason why the current coach doesn't want to keep him in the team simply because he believes Victor Osimhen won't help the team to get better this season.

He has been linked to so many clubs but no one is willing to pay the amount that Napoli is willing to sell the player and now the offer has been dropped to him by the Saudi club don't you think he should forget about European competitions and focus on the big bag sin e he will be receiving a whooping sum of #161m per day as stated in the above image? Moving to Chelsea will definitely make him more famous if he performs well with the team but the current state of Chelsea can not guarantee him the chances of winning trophies.

Mahnnn, what's he still thinking of? Why does it have to take him so much time to decide whether or not he has to move to Saudi ?? Does he feel he has the capability like Didier drogba? Or frank lampard? I mean, all he's ever wanted was to make history and in this case, age is already not being friendly with him...
The worst part of it is that this offer remains limited for his prime... Anything less would either have him meagerly paid, or no slot at all.

He's got alot of trouble already in Napoli; I'm just trying to imagine the high expectations, coupled with media hype and pressure from the club... That's way too much for him already!
I mean, he could try his luck to earn a couple of trophies in Chelsea.... But what if that's not the case? Just like what happened to Neymar?

What do you mean by 'why is he thinking of this offer', he has a life decision to make here because he can end his career from this decision and gets nothing for all the works he has put in to become a football legend. If all he wanted was just to make the money then he has a sealed decision already  although that won't likely be his mindset. I wish for him to go with the money but again I'm a Chelsea fan and we need him desperately.

Quote

No he can play more in the premier league or a different one from where he is at and make a name for himself that could increase this offer when it comes back  in his prime or later in his career but by then he would had won some relevant trophies and personal honours.

You can say that again. Nowadays footballers are playing for the money, not the passion. But I do not see Victor Osimhen moving to the Saudi Pro League. It’s too early in his career to make the change. The Saudi Pro League is where players who are past their prime or injure prone go to and earn wages they cannot possibly get in Europe. Osimhen should negotiate with Chelsea because if he joins the club, he will be able to make a name for himself in English football and depending on his success he can increase his market value. The Saudi Pro league isn’t going anywhere, ten years from now they will still want Osimhen’s signature if he has a big name.

We see Saudi Arabia as a place where older footballers go, this is just for a while, he know distance time even young footballers will be going to Saudi Arabia. This whooping offer that is given Victor  appeared sometime last season even bigger than what is on the table now. I advised Victor to go for the money and play in the Saudi Arabia. But many people said that he was young to go to Saudi Arabia that he has to chase his career in the Europe. But the question is whether is football that is played in Saudi Arabia or basketball. I support Victor to go to Saudi Arabia and text soft agreement with them. Agreement that they will allow him to resign to any other club after two seasons. I believe that they will accept his conditions.

If am to be down to earth Poseiro wasn't a good choice, where did he took the super Eagles to and what did he won? As for Finidi George it was pretty much unfortunate he wasn't given the round of support as foreign coaches before him had from the Nigeria fans, he was already been criticized even before arrival and was also given time as everyone was expecting instant miracles from a coach that's just settling in. Nevertheless, Finidi was just another unlucky fellow in that managers' position for the Super Eagles. The problem with the NFF is that they don't exercise patience by giving length of time  for a building process to any coach they bring in. It's been a garbage in garbage out selections.

His performance last season wasn't as poor as that of Romelo Lukaku who happens to be a preferred choice to Conte perhaps out of favour with the coach. Osimhen last season and right was and is in better form than Lukaku. He is just not wanted by the current Napoli manager Antonio Conte which is obvious that it's not a matter of his performance to be precise. Chelsea are all out for him and before the summer window closes a deal will be struck and sealed.

Victor Osimhen is still young and have a bright career ahead of him which is why he doesn't seem it fit to be in a hurry to take a flight to the Saudi league. There's still a lot of opportunities in the European club's/league's for him to explore for now.  Chelsea isn't a bad choice despite not playing in the Europa or champions league but conference league however, if Osimhen should finally arrived at Chelsea he's going to be of immense impact to their attack and squad entirely which will increase their chances of giving a high performance in both the conference league and EPL.

Everything depends on what exactly he wants at the moment, if the money is what he intends to get at the moment then the Saudi pro league is just the best option currently but if he wants an European exposure then Chelsea is the best move from which he may get other moves in the future, it's much easier to move from Chelsea to other teams than moving from the Saudi pro league back to England or Europe as a whole, in a long time I have not seen movement of such manner so I doubt the ease in such a move, so for .e the best bet is Chelsea first than in the future he can go to other leagues.

If am to be down to earth Poseiro wasn't a good choice, where did he took the super Eagles to and what did he won?
Are you asking what he achieved with our team? did you not watch the AFCON? He did not win a trophy then but during the AFCON the super eagles looked the best they've been since a very long time. We finished with a silver, not the best achievements, but still an achievement. The standard on the team is now high, any new coach is expected to start meeting up.
