After a year of being inactive, John Riel Casimero will make his return to the ring against former title challenger Saul Sanchez. Sanchez is ranked #13 and #8 by the WBC and WBO in the bantamweight division. Earlier this year, he lost a majority decision to Jason Moloney. He is a decent quality fringe contender. The fight will be in Japan and if Casimero has any hope of getting a fight against Naoya Inoue, he will have to win impressively by knockout against this opponent who is coming up in weight.

The fight will be in Japan and if Casimero has any hope of getting a fight against Naoya Inoue, he will have to win impressively by knockout against this opponent who is coming up in weight.
I doubt doing that would even make Inoue's team notice him last time I heard, Inoue's had lost interest with Casimero. As much as I like Casimero I feel like he lost his momentum and this 1 year break and his age doesn't really help him. if he wants to be considered as a potential challenger to Inoue he would need to fight more boxers. anyway, despite all I said I still hope he wins this fight.

If Casimero could knockout Saul Sanchez then the talks of him fighting Inoue in the future will be back again but with his recent performance i doubt he could deliver an impressive performance against a former title contender considering that Casimero has been out of the ring for almost a year, ring rust may be a factor here.

So true, Casimero is not getting any younger and then when we moves up to 122 lbs, his power is no longer there and although before we love to see him against Inoue, but this version of Inoue is very hard to defeat.

And if in any case Inoue goes up in another weight class, then say goodbye to that dreams of Casimero. It's lucky that Casimero was able to be awarded of another fight for this year, his career really make a downward spiral when he severe his ties with MP promotions and then take a Japanese manager.

Even if he knocks out Saul Sanchez, I do not think that Inoue will be interested on him anymore. Naoya even skip Murodjon Akhmadaliev, a much tougher opponent than Inoue if I'm not mistaken.

Naoya just wanted a easy last fight at super bantamweight that's why he chooses TJ as his last. So even Casimero wins, Inoue will move up in weight class. It will be good for this contender though as all the belts are going to be open and maybe for the last time, Casimero will become a champion at super bantamweight.

We should, he happens to be a three-division World Champion and a Hall of Famer candidate and he hasn't lost a fight for seven years its just his clowning attitude that made him get away from the spotlight but an old Casimero is capable of beating any champion.

This is going to be an easy fight for Casimero provided that he gets back to his old form, I have seen his form last month and he has a very big belly, overweight and loves to eat a lot of carbo, but if he cannot get back his old fighting form this could become a disaster for Casimero.

It will be good for this contender though as all the belts are going to be open and maybe for the last time, Casimero will become a champion at super bantamweight.

Boxing fans will be intrigued and there will be hanging questions about what will be the outcome if the fight between Casimero and Inoue materializes, so it will just fuel the discussion between the two, Casimero is pressured to win this fight and he must win it dramatically like knocking him out in the early rounds.
Because he's been bragging that he can beat and knock out Inoue, he will end up a laughing stock if he has a hard time against Saul who is considered not on his level.
If Inoue leaves the Super Welterweight and Casimero has a good showing in this fight he might end up ruling this division, so the discussion between the two will continue if this scenario happens.

IMO, Casimero is still a great fighter, but he's been unlucky in the past with some of his fights ending in no contest or a draw. However, I'm sure this time will be different since Saul Sanchez is not Japanese, so he won't try to fake anything like being good at acting. Also, the ref might be fairer this time, so we have a decent chance of seeing Casimero win via knockout. Hopefully, if Casimero is interviewed and challenges Inoue, we'll hear an answer of YES.

Then we'd be both happy if I'm wrong.

Casimero isn't unlucky. He was lucky, on the contrary. He was provided with great opportunities. He was granted great fights. The problem is that he wasted them all. He missed them because of sheer arrogance, unprofessionalism, carelessness, negligence, and so on.

Beating Sanchez doesn't automatically make him a worthy opponent of Inoue. Who is Sanchez, after all? Was he even a world champion? Do you think a 10-rounder victory against a nobody makes Inoue notice him?

I think the reason why this fight deserves a thread on its own is that Casimero is one of the best boxer coming from the Philippines at the moment and we have a lot of Pinoy users here who are also into boxing.

Casimero is now more of a Jake Paul, YouTuber first boxer second rather than a boxer who also happens to have a YouTube channel. It seems what's left of Casimero today is his loud mouth. I hope I'm wrong.

I share the same observation with you mate. I used to subscribe on Casimero's youtube channel and i could say that it seems that he is not very serious on his fights and all he does is bragging on his channel that is why i unsubscribe because i don't like anymore the loud mouth of him bragging that he will be the one to defeat Inoue.

Agreed. Also, who is this promoter of Casimero? Treasure Boxing? Who are the people behind this? It will not be very shocking if the owners of this have many tattoos covering their whole bodies hehehe. This might be a Yakuza promotion where they pay the boxers to manipulate the outcomes of the fights. If this speculation is true, why would Bob Arum and Top Rank Boxing talk to them?

This might be very regretful statement, however, I reckon that Casimero will retire with no challenges against the champions or challenges against the best boxers in his weight divisions.

Casimero is now more of a Jake Paul, YouTuber first boxer second rather than a boxer who also happens to have a YouTube channel. It seems what's left of Casimero today is his loud mouth. I hope I'm wrong.

You will be wrong.  Smiley

Perhaps we can call him unlucky, but his downfall began when he was dethroned as bantamweight champion. After moving up in weight, things haven't gone well, as he hasn't secured good fights. If we review his record again (https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/421916), he hasn't lost since 2018. It's likely that he was given unfavorable matchups, possibly due to poor management by his promoter.

Beating Sanchez doesn't automatically make him a worthy opponent of Inoue. Who is Sanchez, after all? Was he even a world champion? Do you think a 10-rounder victory against a nobody makes Inoue notice him?
Given the current situation, that might be the case, but if Inoue had truly been interested in fighting Casimero, he would have pursued the match when they were both champions in the bantamweight division. Instead, it seemed like he was avoiding him.

If this speculation is true, why would Bob Arum and Top Rank Boxing talk to them?
Bob isn’t new to the business, and the fact that he partnered with a promoter in Japan and that most of Inoue's fights have taken place there makes it clear that arranging this fight is not impossible. If they are genuinely interested, they could make it happen, settling things once and for all before Inoue moves up.
This might be very regretful statement, however, I reckon that Casimero will retire with no challenges against the champions or challenges against the best boxers in his weight divisions.
It’s unfortunate, but it’s the reality of the situation. Casimero parting ways with MP Promotions seems to have been a misstep in his boxing career, and now he’s facing the consequences. Without the right backing, he’s not getting the matchups that would elevate him to become a mandatory challenger for Inoue. It’s a tough position to be in, and it’s sad to see his potential being hindered by these circumstances.

I really don't understand much about business and boxing matches, but if Bob teamed up with a promoter in Japan and most of Inoue's fights took place there, then maybe he could organize this fight. If they're really interested, they could pull this off, settle things once and for all before Inoue moves up to the next tier.

They are not going to do that because they know Casimero is a big threat to Inoue. Instead, they'll likely move up after Inoue's fight and try to challenge the champions. Casimero hasn't been very impressive in his recent fights, so some might say he doesn't deserve to fight Inoue. But why isn't Inoue fighting a mandatory challenger in his upcoming fight?

Even if he knocks out Saul Sanchez, I do not think that Inoue will be interested on him anymore. Naoya even skip Murodjon Akhmadaliev, a much tougher opponent than Inoue if I'm not mistaken.

Naoya just wanted a easy last fight at super bantamweight that's why he chooses TJ as his last. So even Casimero wins, Inoue will move up in weight class. It will be good for this contender though as all the belts are going to be open and maybe for the last time, Casimero will become a champion at super bantamweight.

Yes, I do understand, there will be a lot of "what if" in our mind as a boxing fans. But if you look at it, it's all Casimero's fault, if he just make the weight against Butler and win that fight then he will have the last belt that Inoue is targeting.

So by all sense, they could have fought already, but that's history and Butler lost to Inoue and then Inoue becoming a unified champion at 118 lbs. And then Casimero moves up in hoping that he can fight Inoue at super bantamweight, but he had fight that is controversial and not impressive and so I'm seeing that even if he knocks out Sanchez, Inoue is not going to be looking for him anymore as he has nothing to offer. It will be good though if Casimero will become a champion when Inoue vacated all his belt and move to Featherweight.

It's really unfortunate to see his career going down in my opinion. Once he move up to super bantamweight, controversial first fight, and if I'm not mistaken, he even had a fight in Manila to showcase his talents to his fans, he he didn't live up to the expectations as he was not able to knock out him out.

Perhaps @Darker45 might have seen this video about John Riel Casimero.

Thanks for sharing the video. I just watched it, and I think it makes sense what the narrator is talking about. I find it unlikely for Casimero to become a champion again, but as a fan who wants to see some real action, I would like to see Inoue vs. Casimero finally happen. These two were supposed to fight if not for the pandemic, and when things returned to normal, Inoue just ignored Casimero and continued to build his legacy by dominating every opponent he faced.

I saw that fight Casimero was struggling in that fight, he was trying to impress his fans but he could not keep up with his opponent, the guy has a solid chin but still managed to win via unanimous decision, not the best version of Casimero but still has the sting in his punches.

I believe Casimero is still in contention to become a champion. His only loss was seven years ago, and his first knockdown was eight years ago. He always dominates his opponent, so unless we see him struggling and getting beaten up, Casimero still has a chance to become a World Champion.
