Hi,

I am tomfoolery from lbc, bitcoin-otc,icbit, etc. The user account tomfoolery here never posted and has been inactive since November 30, 2013, 09:32:02 PM. There is a potential for abuse here. Just earlier there was a guy(seemechine) "nick squatting" and trying to scam people using that name on freenode in #bitcoin-otc and #bitcoin.

Quote
[04:21] tomfooleryLBC is ~tomfooler@unaffiliated/tomfoolerylbc * Thomas Johnson
[10:36] tomfoolery is ~RibbertJa@50-199-115-173-static.hfc.comcastbusiness.net * seemechine
[18:00] tomfoolery is ~Azaye@6532224hfc82.tampabay.res.rr.com * seemechine

I was able to get freenode to release the nick tomfoolery to me and I set enforce on to prevent this again.

If someone were able to get access to that inactive account here they could hit a few people using my name before they were found out.

Is it possible for bitcointalk to release the inactive account to me or change my username? I don't mind going through any reasonable verification steps to prove I am tomfoolery from the accounts above.

I am all for permabanning user names that are scamming by impersonation.

I am strongly against "releasing" inactive user names.

Satoshi is a prime example.

But none that matters since this forum isn't run by a consensus,  Wink

Those are good points. I am hoping to get the username so that I can keep things normalized between the various exchanges and communities. I went yesterday and registered accounts under tomfoolery at litecointalk/local and doges as well as several other exchanges.  I am hoping to prevent anyone from stealing from people in my name and my rep I've been working my ass off to build.

If nothing else, you could create a thread about it not being you with proof, and leave feedback with the link to it in references.
