That's not true. Many custodial wallets have different methods for their users to log into their accounts and access their funds. Losing your device or having a problem with it wouldn't mean you have lost your coins unless the user also loses access to the method he used to create the account such as an email address or something. If someone has created a wallet account using an email address, they might be able to reset their password using that email address on a new device and get access to their funds.

It seems you are misinterpreting my post. I'm not talking about the method to access whatever platforms Op uses to store his funds but rather, I'm concerned about the funds specifically. Op stated that the wallet did not display seed phrase which is the genesis of the problem. No one would have bothered about faulty device or the old wallet is accessible or not if he has the seed phrases. I will still repeat myself, if you don't have the keys, the coins is not entirely yours.

While we are waiting for OP to tell us the name of the crypto wallet he/she is referring to, that didn't allow him/her to view it's seed phrase, I was able to make my own personal research, and I got to discover two wallets, namely "Nami Wallet" which is claim to be non-custodial browser-based wallet extension for Cardano blockchain which is used for sending and receiving of all Cardano tokens and assets, and doesn't allow display of wallet seed phrase, whereas, another wallet that doesn't have seed phrase is "Zengo wallet" which happens to a self custodial crypto wallet which supports Bitcoin and all other coins, such as Ethereum, BNB, & others.

So is any of the two wallets I mentioned the one you were referring to?

What made them non custodial wallet then? They claim to have no access to seed phrase and likewise the user have no access to seed phrase, who then possess the seed phrases? And how do they expect one to access their funds outside that wallet? Seed phrase can not just be in the air, either the platform or the user must possess the seed phrases.

Good day, members of this great forum! I come with a few questions that are confusing me, and I'd appreciate a little explanation. Here is  my question.

What can I do to recover my funds if I lose access to my wallet due to computer failure or lost phone, and I don't know my seed phrase, especially if the wallet didn't display the seed phrase during setup?

Most especially I'm concerned about wallet that don't display seed phrase. Thank you

The simple fact is that you need to create a backup of your wallet as soon as you create it and then secure the keys/seedphrase yourself.
If you fail to do this and lose the access to the wallet then you lose your funds as well.
This is why you need to be diligent enough while setting up wallets.

Only custodial wallets and centralised exchange wallets do not display your seed phrase when you are creating a wallet for the first time , it's important to back up the wallet offline so you can still access the wallet even if the device is not accessible at the moment by accessing the wallet via another device through your seed phrase.
Well, it's not totally true, some wallets are non custodial/self custody and don't display any seed phrase actually. This is a new kind of wallets, they are using passkeys instead of numerical seeds. Exodus, Trust wallet and few others are already offering such feature. You won't need and won't be able to physically back up your seed, but you will be able to get back your wallet whenever you want as long as you can access your passkey.

I don't like this backup way because it gives the backup responsibility to the company, like how we trust centralized exchanges to create, backup wallet and secure our funds.

I did not touch wallets with passkeys and maybe I knew it a first time, through you, thank you for this information that I will read to understand more about passkey. From my quick thinking, this method is not good.

You know, we know "Not your keys, not your coins". Now, with passkeys, we have no private keys in hands, and in backups. What we have is passkey and we have to knock doors of Trust wallet and their customer support team, to access our coin. Assume I understand it correctly, I dislike this method.

Maybe it is different but like Ledger hardware wallet with their Recover product, that is terrible and many people dislike Ledger Recover.

There are different kinds of wallets, not all provide you with a seed phrase. But using such wallets doesn't necessarily mean you lose your funds when you lose access to your computer or phone. Surely, when you setup a wallet, you have login information-- password, PIN, username, whatever. So when your computer or phone dies, you can still access your wallet in a different computer or phone using such information.

However, it's just right that you're concerned "about wallet that don't display seed phrase." These are custodial wallets. Such wallets are not to be fully trusted. If you value control and ownership more than anything else, you choose non-custodial wallets. And look for those that are open-source.

Good day, members of this great forum! I come with a few questions that are confusing me, and I'd appreciate a little explanation. Here is  my question.

As answered by all friends above, if you create a custodial wallet, it means there is no seed phrase because you have trusted a third party. Even if you can't log in, you can ask CS for help. However, if you use a non-custodial wallet, you are responsible for the seed phrase yourself, actually there are some non-custodial wallets that do not display the phrase when creating a new wallet but you can see in the settings to display the backup seed phrase. If this seed phrase is not saved properly when a problem occurs as you described, the risk is that all your assets will be lost.

That's what's important when creating a non-custodial wallet, you have to be careful in choosing a wallet, if from the start the wallet does not display the seed phrase, it cannot be displayed in the settings either, it's better not to use it, find another wallet. Make this a lesson for you in the future so that you don't choose a wallet carelessly.

I guess its considered as a loss of your money because first place, you lose your seed phrase, and one of the basic reminders upon creating a wallet is having the seed phrase with you to write it down, its the key to access your account, upon setting up a new wallet they ask you if you have an already existing seed phrase so you can sync it out without getting trouble. In what particular wallet you are using or you are using an exchange as your wallet?.

It is a normal procedure of wallet creation with non custodial (self custodial) wallets and you can not lose your wallet seed phrase because during creation, you will be asked to retype one of words, if matched, it will continue. Else you will not complete your wallet creation, then can not get address for receiving fund. People lost fund because they lost their backups one way or another.

With custodial wallet except centralized exchanges, I don't know their procedure in creation because I did not use such wallet for a long time. As always warned, No private keys, No mnemonic seeds, big risk of losing your money to that wallet company, the custodian of your coin.

Then you’re most probably not using a wallet that is decentralized that’s why you cannot see your seed phrase. All decentralised wallets gives seeds phrase upon opening the account, if you’re not shown upon opening it, with your password set in the account, you can always check in the app to view your seed phrase and copy it down in case of computer failure or damaged phone.

If you’ve lost your phone or there’s a computer failure that you can’t have access to the wallet, I’m sorry, those funds are gone and cannot be retrieved. They will remain in those wallets forever until you have the seed phrase again and gain that access back into the wallet to spend the coins.

This doesn't even make sense, you need seed phrase to create a wallet if it's non custodial such as Electrum so if you haven't been given seed phrase then the wallet wouldn't be exist in the first place.

Or you created seed phrase on your own or via other tools and then imported in a wallet that's supports the seed type?

Whatever no seed phrase mean you can't access your wallet, end of the story.

Then you’re most probably not using a wallet that is decentralized that’s why you cannot see your seed phrase.
We usually use the terms "custodial" and "non-custodial" for comparison of wallets, not the terms "centralized" and "decentralized".
If a wallet gives you access to your keys, it's non-custodial and if it doesn't give you access to your keys, it's custodial.

Well, it's not totally true, some wallets are non custodial/self custody and don't display any seed phrase actually. This is a new kind of wallets, they are using passkeys instead of numerical seeds. Exodus, Trust wallet and few others are already offering such feature. You won't need and won't be able to physically back up your seed, but you will be able to get back your wallet whenever you want as long as you can access your passkey.
 https://trustwallet.com/fr/blog/security-recoverability-of-smart-wallets

No if you lose access to your passkeys you couldn't knock doors of any customer support of any company unfortunately, because they wouldn't be able to hep you. As I said, these are self-custody wallets, and passkeys are not readable by any company nor any third party fortunately, that's why passkey technology is an interessing feature for crypto wallets. You can read more about it in the link I posted above. But passkeys are not like passwords they are not revealed to anybody when they are used, they use cryptographic signatures for authentication schemes. So unlike hosted wallets like blockchain.com wallets for example, you are sure that nobody knows the "seed" of your wallet.

This doesn't even make sense, you need seed phrase to create a wallet if it's non custodial such as Electrum so if you haven't been given seed phrase then the wallet wouldn't be exist in the first place.

That is not correct. There are some wallets that do not use the common BIP39 mnemonic seed phrase. Bitcoin Core is one of them, for example.

Whatever no seed phrase mean you can't access your wallet, end of the story.

Not quite right either. There are other methods of backing up wallets besides the seed phrase.

Then you’re most probably not using a wallet that is decentralized that’s why you cannot see your seed phrase.
~

Thats the wrong term you are using. There are no decentralized wallets, afaik.  Bitcoin blockchain is decentralized due to numerous decentralized nodes, but all wallets are pretty much centralized because they mostly run on only one single device (computer, smartphone or server).

If you are using a non-custodial wallet, you will be given a seed upon opening a new wallet. It usually ask you to copy out this seed and store it safely. Aside exchange account or custodial wallets, where they literally hold the key to your funds, you should find your seedphrase in you wallet any time you need it. Just go to settings, you will find it. Always remember to back up your seed, and use wallets that give you total control of your keys.
I also think non custodial wallets are safest way to store your cryptocurrency. When we open new wallet we get special code called seed phrase. We should keep this code safe because it unlocks our funds. Non custodial wallets let us control our money unlike other types of wallets that hold keys for you. We should always save your seed phrase and choose wallets that put you in charge of your money.
Highly recommended wallet is Hardware wallet. If anyone can afford so I will recommend to use hard ware wallet.

Most especially I'm concerned about wallet that don't display seed phrase. Thank you

You may have to first take your time in reading between what a custodial and non custodial wallet is.

Quote
A custodial wallet is a wallet in which a third party (usually a crypto exchange) is responsible for managing your private keys. Instead of having custodial access to your funds, a service provider gets complete control of your money.

A non-custodial wallet is a wallet in which you are responsible for storing and managing your private keys. Instead of third parties like crypto exchanges having custodial access, you have full control over your digital assets. https://www.moonpay.com/learn/blockchain/custodial-vs-non-custodial-wallets

Additionally, when choosing a wallet, only a non custodial wallet is regarded as a crypto wallet while the non custodial could be seen only as account, you can never be given access to your wallet from using a custodial wallet like the one from exchanges, because they are responsible for holding your keys and cannot reveal such private keys to you, but if it were to be a non custodial wallet, your wallet seed phrase must be seen by you once a wallet is set up.

Thank you
We either have Centralized or decentralized wallets which the Centralized wallets may only enable you to set up passwords to login with no seed phrases required as fact of operating in a central system where note your keys and not your coins. So it's usually risky to operate in this format because you're not alright in charge of your funds that's why it's not advisable to save our funds in the Central networks.
So if you lost or not reachable to your device and want to log on to other devices, you can always use your password and if in any case you lost it, you can as well recovery it through access of your email and or phone number you used to process the registration.
Seed phrases are basically for stronger private networks like the decentralized exchanges and self custodial wallets which gives you alright to your funds and Privacies of your wallet.

Why some wallet don't display seed phrase? That is mean that your wallet is non custodial wallet and maybe you need some recovery email to open your wallet to regain access back of your account or you just forget that your wallet have seed phrase in setting but didn't display it at first setup

maybe this picture will be handy to other people aswell.

Sorry, but you won't be able to recover your funds if you lose access to your wallet due to computer failure. If data on your Hard Drive is safe then you may somehow be able to get your account back even after computer failure but if you lose your phone and wallet is present on phone only and it's a personal wallet then you won't be able to get access to your funds again.

Hold up mate,

What do you mean there are wallets that don’t display their seed phrases or private keys in the setup?

It’s the first I’ve heard of this except, your taking about custodian wallets here else, none custodian wallets always puts these (seed phrase) out for re-entry as a form of verification during the setup. They ensure you get to take it down somewhere and input them in their order yourself.

You wouldn’t get any help pampering yourself this way in not telling what actually took place. For nine custodian wallets, without your seed phrase or private key and you eventually lost access to it on your device, it’s all gone. Should you still have access on your device and don’t know where you had place them seed phrase, you could always bring it back up.
