I was reminded of Apple’s latest iPhone 16. There hasn’t been much change, but the price is still so expensive. For me, a mobile phone is OK as long as it doesn’t lag and can run properly. I often use it for several years. As for the functions, the only thing I hope to improve is the photo function. In the end, mobile phone photography can never be compared with video cameras.

lol my phone stays with me for at least 5-7 years depend in update availability and depends if this will stay functional because there is no need for upgrade when I have my laptop and PC together with my Ipad so there is no sense for mobile upgrading .

No, of course, it's enough for me for 3 years. Thanks to apple for the quality, their phones are even enough for 5 years!

I still walk with 11 iPhones, a workhorse like 5. Before that, I went with the fifth for a long time.

We are already talking about this topic in this thread: Cutting cost: Do we really need the latest smartphone? so I will quote in brief what I said there: -snip- I recently heard that every time you change your smartphone before the end of it's life cycle, your hands are a little more stained by the blood of many slaves who work not only in the coltan mines but in many other points of the production chain.
Better for your pocket, better for the people, better for the planet. Getting the newest device for the sake of fasion is just another madness of our times I try to avoid.
Looking at some statistics I found, it seems that 14% of people change their phone every year, and 6.6% do it every six months (that's crazy). The average time to upgrade the phone, on the other hand, is between 2 and 3 years.

As long as my phone doesn't lag, I won't replace it. Thanks to Apple's excellent performance

Well no it is too expensive for me to change it each year. I do not get a new phone until I must buy a new one. If it does break or if I lose it then well I do not have other choice. The phone is a simple thing for me so I do not spend alot of money on it.

phone companies that do contract cellular deals have a new phone bundled into the deal. and these contracts are usually for 18-24 months, which is when people switch phones to re-start a new contract.
and so these companies need to offer a new phone to entice people to want to renew contract. so they ask phone manufacturers to create new phones every 1-2 years to give reason for people to want to re-contract...
yep the salesmen at the cellular billing companies get commission per new contract, so they want customers starting new contracts, so they want reasons people would want to start a new contract rather then be converted to uncontracted billing/pay-as-you-go when contract expires
.. its the same psychological consumerist games as: why do packs of hotdogs come in 8's but buns come in 6's(vice versa depending on region)... to keep you coming back for more

Op this question got me laughing because this issue depends on individual priority mostly what the person want any one who keeps buying phone every year without it's phone having issue or damage it means it's budget capture buying of phone in order word he prioritize phone buying. The least u can use my phone is two years if only I discovered some fault and seek to advance but just to buy phone because new product has been introduced I'd not my speg.

Been using my current phone for the past 4 years now. I see no reason why I should change my phone when I can update it to the latest version and still works and meet my expectations. My laptop is another thing I can use to run other stuffs if it turns out that my phone can’t carry certain tasks.
I’m more bothered about upgrading my life, my future and not worry about upgrading phones. If we’re being honest most people upgrade their phones for show off.

I agree with some comments above. I'm using my current phone for 5-6 years now and will continue to use it until it can't work any more.
By the way, the reason I've changed my previous phone was because my motherboard stopped working and it was more expensive to fix it.

I don’t change phones often. As long as it works well and takes decent photos, I’m good for years.

Lol I have been using my google pixel 3 since years. I bought it when it was already out for a couple of years... Unless current phones experience a wave of innovation (and I do not consider: "we put in a battery that holds 10% more charge" or "more pixels" as innovative factors) I am fine with it. Therefore, old phone stays.

I usually change mine after 3 or 4 years. Thats when I notice a drop in performance and battery capacity.
