Hello everyone,
I’m doing market research on crypto marketing and curious about the best strategies.
What is the typical marketing budget for a presale or ICO?
What are the best websites for promoting a crypto project (e.g., for listings, press releases, network ads, affiliates or influencer marketing)?
Thanks for your insights!

I'm not sure asking random people on this forum is a good idea to understand the general process of marketing works. Are you using our response to filter which company you'll research further? I don't think a project has shared its marketing budget publicly (unless you limit it to weekly payments for signature campaigns or bounty campaigns).
I believe this forum is one of the popular choices for crypto business to market their projects. Take a look at the services section and you can see many different projects (from gambling to exchanges) doing a signature campaign for weeks or years. You can easily find the names of those businesses on a Premier League club shirt or on a billboard. Judging from how expensive those marketing deals are (I remember Crypto buying an ads deal worth $10 million), running a promotion on this forum is quite cheap. CMIIW.

The marketing budget for a presale or ICO can range from $50K to $500K+ depending on the project's scale and goals of course.
Best websites for promoting a crypto project include:
CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko for listings Cointelegraph and Bitcoinist for press releases Google Ads (though restrictions exist) and Crypto ad networks like Coinzilla Influencer marketing on YouTube and Twitter (X) Bitcointalk forum for community engagement.
Good luck with your research!

It depends on the product. Every product needs a different marketing strategy. When you choose a website to advertise your product, you have to consider how matchable its audience is with your target audience, you have to check how searchable your keywords are and what's the competition. If there is a big demand for keywords of your business/product, then you have to seriously take care of SEO to be ranked in Google as high as possible because that way you'll attract many customers. If you have a crypto casino, then your best marketing strategy would be to run a signature campaign on this forum, hire streamers who have a big audience and will promote your casino, and partner with football clubs and football players because when there will be football matches, your logo will be on their t-shirt and millions of people will see your product and every football fan is a potential customer if you have a sportsbook in your casino. If you have an AI-related crypto service, it will be better to place an advertisement on news websites like Decrypt, Cointelegraph and etc because these websites attract audiences that want to know what's happening in crypto world and I assume AI is in their interest too, especially if it's crypto-related. You can hire influencers, social media stars, tiktokers, etc... There are endless options and possibilities.

If you want to do crypto marketing and want to find a good strategy, maybe you can hire those who are experienced in the field of marketing. By hiring those who are experienced, of course they have a lot of strategies that you can develop in the market. What is the typical marketing budget for a presale or ICO?
There is not much real information about pre-sale or ICO budgets, it is more personal between the company and the marketing team, if I'm not mistaken you can spend around 5-10% or a maximum of 11.2% depending on the agreement taken from the total income. What are the best websites for promoting a crypto project (e.g., for listings, press releases, network ads, affiliates or influencer marketing)?
About this I do not comment, you will find here or on Google, you will choose for yourself which you think is the best website.

What is the typical marketing budget for a presale or ICO?
While presale and ICO were already gone out of the market for too long as a strategy. Let's take the budget matters on this, one project could spend as low as $5k-$10k as a start just for doing a marketing in specific platforms. And the listing isn't included yet from exchanges which could be 5x-100x in the between of that budget that I've mentioned. What are the best websites for promoting a crypto project (e.g., for listings, press releases, network ads, affiliates or influencer marketing)?

Since you've asked this in the forum, of course doing it here first is one of the option like running a signature campaign, a bounty. I've lost trust to the influencer marketing, why? because most of them don't really research the projects that they advertise. But if it's about their influence, no doubt that they can bring more exposure to the project.

And it's good to remember that budget on ico / pre-sale signature bounties doesn't cost the company anything, because they are often paid with the tokens that are earmarked for marketing anyway, which can be anything from 5% - 20% or more from the circulating supply. And since they are valuating the project beforehand to hard cap (100% tokens sold), they can say that they have a huge budget for marketing. So bounty hunters will believe they are been paid tokens that are worth more, because team is saying that they have a premium hard cap price. And that makes sense because team doesn't need to care about the token valuation, as they are already been paid with ETH, USDT, BTC, or with something else that has real value for those sold tokens. So the value of their sold tokens (if they hold any themselves) will be just extra for them.

It will depend on your budget, bitcointalk, through signature and bounty campaigns has always been a good place for crypto projects and businesses to advertise and promote themselves, you can also look at other crypto forums and how promotion works there, and see if it is an option. Social media is also another place that you can promote your project. However, it may be a good idea to tell us more about your project, so you can get better recommendations.

What is the typical marketing budget for a presale or ICO?
Fully depends on the type of project and the extent the team wants to take it to. It can start as low as $10k and grow to over $250-$750k. This amount is usually adjusted with time as a project gets more popular and the result of the previous marketing budget is obvious. This means a project that has spent $100k and has gotten investments of over $1 million will be willing to pump more resources into marketing. What are the best websites for promoting a crypto project (e.g., for listings, press releases, network ads, affiliates or influencer marketing)?
Again this depends on what type of project, but Bitcointalk, Twitter, Reddit, telegram and YouTube are go to options for majority of projects.

Right, they're paying the marketing out of thin air and that's how they're able to market their projects which IMO is genius way back then until everything we have realized that everyone has been outsmarted. And since they are valuating the project beforehand to hard cap (100% tokens sold), they can say that they have a huge budget for marketing. So bounty hunters will believe they are been paid tokens that are worth more, because team is saying that they have a premium hard cap price.

Exactly. Investors pay the team with known cryptos that you've mentioned. Then, the developers will pay the bounty hunters and the marketing through their nonsense tokens. They all funnel everything in favor of these devs.

The best answer you will get will be from campaign managers as they have better access and analysis of data but in general, promoting cryptocurrencies is different from promoting crypto projects as in the case of projects, continuous promotion is what gives the project value while promoting cryptocurrencies requires heavy promotion before listing and does not require continuity. Through this, you will determine the sufficient resources and the shortest time period and from there the minimum budget will vary accordingly.

Hey everyone,
We received quotes from various publications, influencers, and other sources. After reviewing them, we decided to cancel the ICO instead of spending all that money on marketing.
Instead, we'll use the marketing funds to start building the app and the whole concept right away.
Thank you all for your support!

That's a different approach and I'll be looking forward to hearing from you how it works out. Marketing is not a replacement for building the actual product, it's the way to let people know about the product you're building and how it can be useful to them. If you are planning to start building the concept first before you start marketing, that's very understandable and is the best approach for a project start up, if your product is useful enough there are other sources of funds you can exploit even before the final product is ready.

Hey everyone,
We got quotes from different publications, influencers, and other sources, and realized that instead of spending all that money on marketing, hoping people would buy the token to support our idea (like crowdfunding platforms do), we’ve decided to cancel the ICO.
That's much better, to be honest if you'd ask me. ICOs aren't that big anymore and you're just going to waste your money putting that funds on influencers and other ways of marketing because the investor's sentiment about ICOs is that they're mostly a scam. The ICOs have been swarmed by scam projects circa 2018. Instead, we'll use the marketing funds to start building the app and the whole concept right away.
Thank you all for your support!
Good luck, once your app has been utilized and ready to the market then that's when you can introduce it with some marketing on the side to increase traffic and userbase.

There isn't a fix budget and your budget can't be the same with companies that have excessive inflow of cash available at their disposal. For example a memecoin marketing budget can't be the same as yours because they get easy money very easily that they can dispense for active marketing and paying influencer to shill their projects. Your marketing budget should be based on where you want to advertise your project. If you want to use forum like this, you won't have to spend much than when you want to use news outlets and other media that has crypto viewes. But always know that the outcome aren't always the same. Some thing that works more than anything else in this space is branding, it's what will put you out there before people begin to look into your project to see what you offer. So focus on branding yourself perfectly and your project can sell itself without spending too much. Partnering with exchange to get your project out there is one of the most successful ways to get interested participants because there, you already have your targeted audiences.

I'm surprised you think it's possible to raise money for a product without a minimum viable product/concept in the first place. Maybe that's a thing back in 2017, but people have abandoned them. Even I don't think VCs are that eager to fund projects nowadays. If you have an investor already, maybe request more connections from them if you lack the budget to develop your product. I'm sure they're more well-connected than a random marketing team on the internet without a portfolio.

Your decision is obviously not bad, you have to work on your product before you talk of marketing, so if you are channeling most of your funds to build your project and make the concept attractive, then it is commendable. However, take note that marketing is still a must, but you can use a minimal budget for it, you have to find a way to tell people about your project and what you have built after you are done, so that many people can get to use it.

It needs a ton of budget. Crypto site listing and data portal like cmc, coingecko and similar is good way to promote an ICO project, it will also help a wide range of views and getting listed there is a plus. But you need a community driven marketing where the word of mouth is essential so social media ads and build communities will help.

Wait. Do you plan to launch an ICO? We live in 2024, not 2017. ICOs are a thing from the past. I'm not a marketing expert and don't have experience in the crypto industry, but I think that asking such question on this forum won't help you. Maybe you should do a search on Linkedin for marketing experts with a background in the crypto industry and contact them directly. The best platforms for promoting crypto stuff are Telegram, Discord, Reddit and this forum(Bitcointalk.org). FB, Instagram and X(twitter) might also do the work, but I'm a bit skeptical about this.

I guess the op didn't know that when they created the topic, but after a few replies they decided to cancel the ico or whatever crowdfunding campaign they wanted to do, you can see it in their post after the op.
