The worst thing here is that they are all aware that the chances of winning big in the long-term are slim in any casino game, but they still gamble anyway thanks to the tiny possibility of making it big.

Some people even end up taking loans and make their situations worse sadly. None of this will ever change since there are too many living beings and too few resources on this planet currently.

If you're living on a country that only has a minimum monthly wage salary of 70,000 NAIRA which when converted to USD is around $44, you really need to do some things that you don't normally do, but you need to in order to survive, and that includes gambling just for you to be out of the extreme poverty zone.

They know that their chances of winning huge in gambling is low, but if there's no other way for them to earn more then I will not blame them for resorting to gambling. When you're on an extreme poverty zone and the only way for them to be out of that zone is gambling then they will risk everything just for their lives to be better. They know the risks, but I guess they don't care anymore.

Corrupted government is by far the main reason why they are doing this, and like you said, no one will change unless their government will change, or their lives become better without the help of gambling. It's just unfortunate to see these people doing these kinds of things, but this just shows how cruel the world is.

I understand the sentiment here and I am sure some are genuinely trying to make money - but at what cost? Gambling means you are risking your own money to make more, a standard gig job would mean spending your energy and physical abilities to make money. To me the second one always take preference and gambling only for having fun once a while.

However twisted you try to make it appear to others, you are only deceiving yourself and not the ones who are listening to you. Gambling is a method for the casinos to make money off the players, not the other way round, contrary to belief. Hard work pays off way better and stable manner than gambling. Nigeria is no different, they have to search and join such jobs.

Regardless of what is being said or rather, speculated here, gambling is not the only means of survival for the jobless in Nigeria, there are other viable and dependable means of earning money here in that country, one of them is handwork, which otherwise is known as skill, many are also running their own small business here and there, and from the profit they make, they try their luck with gambling.

Those who have no skill and also are not running any business also have manial jobs as a viable option to live on, manial jobs includes clearing bush, serving concrete in building sites, gathering and selling firewood and so on and so.
This people get money from this manial jobs and possibly spend some those money on gambling in search of bigger pay.

Many ways. They can do many things to earn money even from steal or do other illegal things so they can have money that they can use for gambling. We heard about that news from many places so that increase the criminal percentage in some areas. They often back to casino and play their favorite gambling games to earn money but most of them are not successfully gets the win money but only lose their money.

I don't think they can beat the system as the casino will not let that happens. They will protect their business from those people and although some people can win the money, the amount is not too big compare to the profit that the casino get. Using gambling to make a living will not have a big chance because those people will only see their money slowly gone in the gambling table.

Gambling has already become part of their culture, which is why you’ll see many people interested in different types of gambling.
I recently watched a video, and they even call gambling an epidemic in Nigeria. The documentary is titled

That scenario shows that some people don't know how to set aside their fantasies to reality. Since if they really look at gambling as way out to became wealthy then they are delusional and desperate to earn fast richest on those activity. If they hook to much on it then provably that instead they get rich those people might experience to get broke.

Go overseas would provably one of the best solution, since maybe they can find more better job their and once they can save some money. Then they could able to create a business which provably could able to change their lives. But if they are innovative type of person and have knowledge on new tech then they have huge chance to get rich especially if  those people could able to take advantage on their skills then try to get lots of opportunities they can see online. To many money making schemes is available and its just people need to explore those opportunities so that they can earn something from working online.

I quit agree with you, gambling is not a true way to escape financial challenges or to escape the economic hardship. Best way is to study like you said and get a job or learn a skill and start a trade. I don't actually see reasons why one must even travel to a foreign country to look for greener pasture if they can actually get every opportunity they want in their country. It best to explore every better opportunity and not gambling.

There is real truth in this post because I still remember how things were when gambling was not too popular in Nigeria and how they are now that gambling shops is in virtually all the nooks and cranny of the country. Then there was high rate of crime and in various degrees, people were losing their valuables on the street and even in their homes. You will see group of boys forming stealing gang and unleashing mayhem on the people. But today, there is a sharp decline in majority of these crimes because people are hustling differently. The popularity of gambling and the proliferation of gambling shops have change a lot of those things. Most people just want clean money which they can make in places like gambling shops and online platforms. Even in our challenging times, many people rely on gambling to survive or at least have hope of surviving.

I don't know the exact situation but suspect it is an activity that people usually do because it has become a legal activity, but I am not sure there will be many who will survive and be able to earn regularly so that they live only from gambling, because there will be times when they can lose all because gambling often leads to greed. If you can earn $100 today, you will most likely not be satisfied in the future.

There are countries that make money from gambling, but because many foreigners come to gamble, not just their citizens, maybe your country should start developing how it can become a destination country for foreigners to gamble.

That's what I was going to ask, where will they get the money to gamble when they say they don't have enough money to cover their daily needs? Is it effortless to win and make a profit from gambling in Nigeria? and the casinos there, are they charity or business?

I don't know how bad the economic situation is in Nigeria but to say that because the economy is so bad that they have no way to survive and they have to gamble just to survive sounds very absurd. Because as we all know, gambling does not create jobs and bring income to people, gambling is just a place to spend money, not a place to make money.

Some people do actually gamble for a living based on my observations, but there are very few such people who make steady profits in a smart manner primarily through sports betting and poker which require skill + luck.

It's still a risky way of earning steady profits in the long-term, but it is 100% possible based on my observations.

Not good if they aim to earn passively since by considering the risk factor and other no guarantee situation on gambling it will make those gamblers to be a total loser. They just need to overthink that gambling could change their life since this situation is so rare. But if they really want to take a chance and try their luck maybe they should spend only the amount they can afford to lose. Since if they place huge portion of their income then they might experience more hardship in life especially if they are losing to much money on what they do on those gambling sites.

This is one of the consequences of thinking about gambling could bring good wealth to them. And people will only realize their craziness once they experience these big defeats so hopefully they can get their target and will not fall to experience addiction since this will bring them more bigger problems.

This got me thinking and I came came to the conclusion that betting or gambling is now a way out of the harsh economic situation that we find our self in the country

The thing about gambling is that it's only fun when you are winning and not when you drag yourself into debt, destroy your relationship with family and friends because of money etcetera.

But like the saying goes, gamble with funds you can afford to lose and I believe people can try their luck with winning some life changing money which only happens to less than 20% of the people out there

Having the mindset  of thinking that you can gamble your way out of gambling.  Is just like a temporary solution to your problem and that is why they keep falling victim because they think that it is the only way out and that does not mean that it is a way out for everyone so you have to understand the proper steps to take when you want to do gambling so  that you can reduce or even fallback for some time when you are not in favor that is what a smart person will do rather than to continue. For fun is even understandable but for survival you will just go hungry if you want to game full time.

People are gambling in a desperate attempt to turn their finances 180º, as they can't think in anything else in order to leave poverty. People can survive without gambling as they have been doing since always, but survival becomes harder and even more unbearable if they gamble, because it will drain all their funds on long run, decreasing the chances they have of growing their patrimony along the time.

I believe online gambling added to the sports factor is a new phenomenon for most people around the world, so they have the illusion it can be profitable, just like many of us here had that impression when we firstly met crypto gambling through automatic bot feature. It took some time until we finally understood gambling isn't profitable the more we play, doesn't matter how hard we try. I guess it's just a matter of time until people globally also take notice of that.
