It's all depends on the line of business that you are into. There are types of businesses that have settings and spacing, and such need to be respected. If it's a business, they have associations; you need to check if such is allowed. In my area, there is an approved spacing for medical stores. 
 
But if it's just a regular business where all you need is to strategise your pattern of marketing and make sure that you retain the customer you already have sometimes won't even leave you unless you were not treating them right, that's when your competitor will buy them over.
That may happen in some places but in other conditions when there is competition that occurs in business matters, of course, it is a very natural thing and does not need to be considered as a thing that is considered to be a real problem when we do business well.
Because in the end before starting to talk about competition, of course the focus in doing business or business is back to ourselves whether in the end we are able or not to establish ourselves in that position (as a businessman). Because in the end when we talk about business, it is certain that our mentality must be really strong to face anything including trade competition. Well, you just have to look for what your competitors are not doing very well, then you perfect it. If maybe your competitors opens their company by 10AM, you should resume earlier, if their price is less expensive than yours, you need to also bring down your price, keep your business environment very clean and hygienic and don't be rude to customers, give discount most of the time and give your customers a warm good bye, then ask them to come again next time.
Sometimes I accept to buy goods at stores with higher prices for some reasons such as warranty policy, customer care style, especially the product quality is always guaranteed...So, whether a store opens early or late, sells at a cheaper price or constantly discounts...does not necessarily help your business compete with competitors.

Overall, business is not simple and what we need to improve to attract and retain customers depends on the needs of the customers. So what we need to do is listen to our customers, see what they want and need, and then find ways to satisfy them.

In business, sell what customers need, don't sell what we have but not what customers need.

You can imagine successful setting up a business in a well suitable location and then just when you think things are getting better and enjoying your peace of mind. You find out that another person gets to set up the same business as yours very much close to you.

Even if they want to start a business in the se location why the exact business some other person had on going.

Quite interesting topic. First, I want you to understand that it is a human nature to envy others especially when they are doing well, but how you control or manage that envy matters. You have to understand that the person who choose to move to your business location and offer similar service feels that he/she can offer a better service to outsmart yours, and I believe you know that anyone who offers a better service gets more attention.

Now, even though I'm not a marketer or business expert, I might want to share my own opinion from the consumer/buyers aspect because I think it matters.
You have to understand that what consumers needs is a product that they can trust, and a trust product must come from a genuine or unique dealer. You have to be different. You have to offer a unique service. I have purchased products from people and end up regretting it. And when a consumer regrets purchasing a product, I bet you that he/she will never go there again.

And one other thing is, try as much as possible not to make mistakes. Mistakes like looking down or not giving attention to customers can give upper hand to your competitor. Some mistakes can even drag a business down forever.

You don't have to feel threatened. Just see it as a competition. I guess you haven't heard of stories of companies like Nike and others, or the massive competition between coca cola and Pepsi. These are companies that where able to compete so well. Just do your thing.

I think the most important thing here is to find the niche, if you are providing something you will eventually be able to specialize in specific sectors, so find them and that is what will differentiate you from your competitors.

Like for example, Joint A has good burgers while Joint B has excellent hot dogs - so people visit each joint for a specific product or purpose.

If your sector is not like that you can try giving competitive prices and promotions - but the most important thing is quality and customer satisfaction - you will grow your userbase over long term.

With every point given in the comment section and the ideas shared. I’m convinced that competition in business is normal and it helps one step up their business. But what I’m not finding cool is when the said competitor involved goes the extra mile in ruining another competitor’s business by bringing diabolism. It doesn’t make any sense than showing sign of hatred and jealousy

I have to agree. In order for any business to succeed and prosper, one should always focus on what you can offer and satisfy the customers, because that will create a reason that they will keep coming back to your store regardless of its price and location. If they feel easy and at ease dealing with you, they will surely keep coming back. Aside from price and item quality, customer service makes a very big factor that they'll always patronize your store, even if new competitors will continuously arise in the market.

Their is no business that you want to start that their won't be competitors and every idea is already in the process of establishment, the idea now is that you have to find a way of making people interested in your product it is very important to belief in your self. Because the demand is what you focus on and you have to be able to convince your self to be able to patronize because the demand have to be high and the same time you have to also work on relationship with people because one of the advantages that other people have is people they relate with, the have good customer experience.

And when you have a lot of things in other, so that regardless of your price and location people will still patronize your products, because their products thay have gotten the name and no matter how the price continues to increase people will still buy that is how powerful building a name can be, and they even do a lot of patronage on influencers to make adverts for them.

Starting a business this period is not easy at all and you have to be prepared because this days the economy is not helping a lot of businesses and a lot of them are closing, because of tax and low sales and other factors so only few businesses can survive this harsh periods.

So what we could able to do to overcome our competition is to scout what they are offering to their costumer then offer more than what they can give. Also we should know that being friendly and have good  relation costumer is another recipe for success. Since also there's no people will go to seller if they know that they are bad person.
