Sports fans are one of the most dedicated and most loyal kind of people I know. It doesn’t matter what the sport is, all fans pick their favorite and stick with them through thick and thin. Maybe it’s a bit difficult to explain to someone who doesn’t follow sports as intensely but being a fan of a team doesn’t mean supporting them only because they are winning.

Even if your favorite team constantly loses or shows bad performance, you are still a fan and you are still hoping for them to gain back momentum and start winning again. If someone were to change the team they support based on the result, how fun will that be? Nothing will bring a sports fan more delight than seeing their favorite team climb their way up to the top.

However I’m curious whether some of you have changed your favorite teams over the years. It is not as simple as having a different favorite food compared to when you were 10. A favorite sport team, to me at least, will always be your favorite. So if you did change your favorite team, what was the reason?

I was once a Chelsea fan like 10 years ago. I do not know much about other leagues than English Premier League when I was a Chelsea fan.

When I start to bet in 2014, that was when I know about other leagues across the world. I started to know leagues in many countries in Europe, South America, country like US in North America, in Asia, Africa and Australia.

I like Europe most and I was liking new clubs at the time when I know more about football. I noticed I just left supporting Chelsea but not fully but fading the more and I see no reason to be a fan of other clubs but I do have favorites in different seasons. Example was when Leicester was playing good in EPL, I wanted the club to win the league at the time. That club at huge odds while betting and they won the league at the time. Now I wanted Arsenal to win the league since 3 seasons ago but I am not an Arsenal fan.

Players resigning, switching teams, and maybe the management of the team being an ass and not even trying to make the team strong again.

There are different reasons for a fan to switch teams especially if you are not from that place. I am an example. I love watching the NBA and it has become one of the sports that I love ever since I was a kid. I am a Michael Jordan fan of the Chicago Bulls and when he resigned, I could not find anything that would boost my enthusiasm to watch that team again until Derrick Rose came. But before that, I love watching the Phoenix Suns with Steve Nash, the New Jersey Nets with Jason Kidd, and more. I became a less active fan of my favorite team because the management is not even trying and that makes any fan be frustrated to watch their games.

When I was a kid, I had my favorite sports team, but as I matured and started gambling, my mindset shifted. I became more focused on betting than on my love for a specific team. Loving a team too much made me biased, and I couldn’t see their real value, even when they were overvalued, which often led to losing bets.

Now, when I really love a team, I choose not to bet on them and just enjoy watching them play. It seems like my gambling mentality has taken over my fanboy character.

 Overtime when your favorite club isn't giving you the results you've being expecting for awhile can make you want to switch. Some support a particular club because of a player so if this player switches clubs, that's the end for them.
 Personally I think the essence of being a die hard fan of a club is not to just be supportive when the club is winning, but in their down seasons as well. I've not changed my club since I started supporting them in 2003, and it's Arsenal. Even though they haven't won the league title for two decades, there's still this belief that it's going to happen one day and we'd break that record.

Personally, I don’t have fixed sports team since most of the sports I’m watching and following are international which I don’t have any special attachment to the team unlike people who live on the area which the sports team based.

I was a fan of Spurs on Basketball and NYY on MLB but right now I don’t follow them frequently since I don’t like the roster. I think my criteria of being a fan is purely on the roster instead of the team since that’s what makes a team satisfying to watch.

I don’t think it’s bandwagon for international viewers.

The real football fans will never doubt to support their favourite teams whether those teams gets the winning results or lost however i am a Liverpool fans since 2005 and i have been watching this team can able to beat AC Milan on the final match of champion league at Istanbul and i think that is one of the greatest moment in my life because at that time Liverpool status as anderdog and AC Milan is recognized as one of the strongest team in Europa but surprisingly Liverpool can being an the winner of that match and since that year Liverpool has facing difficult situation even on Premier league Liverpool was not as strong as it is today but i never thinking want to change my favourite team and i always be support them whatever situation they will face

I have favorite sports team on some leagues out there, but that doesn't mean I am loyal to bet on that team especially if I know that they are losing. Being a fan will be just there, but when talking about placing bets and who's going to win I provably bet on other side or just ignore to place bet when there's a game happening. But of course if I know my favorite team had the advantage for sure will go place some bets to them and rest his history after that.

Changes of team depends if there's certain things happen like trading their superstar or they are continuously losing since somehow common thing that can make the team interesting to us is how many times they win and compete to get a championship.

You will probably see not only the happiness you will see when our favorite team gets a victory in a competition, also on the contrary, we will get the same deep sadness when the favorite team that we always support loses, even almost don't want to eat.
Like in the Real Madrid match yesterday, I was so sad that I didn't want to leave the house and stay in my room for a few days, because if you have a favorite team emotionally you will be connected with the players, when they are happy we will also be happy and when they are sad I will also be sad.

I've never thought of changing it, yes there may be some people who change it because their favorite team is no longer productive and they get bored, but that dude is not a loyal supporter.

You are more of a football lover than just being a fan to one club. I understand the feeling, because you like good football and you recognize it when you see it. When Chelsea won the Premier League and Champions League at some point in time was very interesting. Then i was not  fan of Chelsea but i went out with my friends who were Chelsea fans we sit, we drink and watch the match expecting Chelsea to win. That was good football to me, i like seeing teams play wonderfully well to deserve the trophy they want.

In this current time we see clubs like Arsenal doing very well across every league, while in the EPL they have been so close to winning the League. To be honest you are the first Chelsea fan i have seen in my life who prays that Arsenal should win the League.

I would also like to take that as a example, the Bulls dominates the 90's with Michael Jordan at the top if his game. But when it was over, it's hard to look for other teams and for sure Bulls fans might have look at other teams in the 00's like Kobe's LA. But I think that's it, maybe fans really change their favorite teams when their stars left or retired as they can no longer play.

Yeah, DRose came but he didn't have that impact or at least to bring the Bulls in the finals and the rest is history for him, (getting injured). So that's it, fans move along as well, but there could really be some who stays no matter what.

That is to be called a betrayal and I know for sure that a true hardcore sport fan like me would never do that. My team which has been relegated in the second league from Premier League and I was there watching their every game in rain, snow and of course in normal conditions. I don't know a person who has changed a team after following them for some years, any person that does that is nothing but a traitor and what guarantees do we have that he does not change team again? None so true hardcore fans would never change their team no matter what happens to them.

My favorite team is in EPL but I don't bet base on the club that I support to start with. I also have some soft spot for a team in La Liga. So what happens is that I'm quite neutral when these two teams meet especially in the champions league. At such time when I'm betting, I bet on goals and not winning

No ofc not. When I got interested in football, I went with FC Bayern München and it stayed that way. No matter if they won titles or not. In particular, the years with the biggest defeats have strengthened my bond with the club. I can still remember the Champions League defeats against Manchester United in 2001 and Chelsea in 2012 like it was yesterday. Those were defining moments for me as a fan, imho.

And it seems like there are more ppl feeling that way (at least when it comes to FC Bayern). Bayern is the club with the most members:

There are many reasons why a supporter changes their favorite team, some because the franchise player or key player that they follow transfers to another team, some because they lose hope on their team and they want a team that reflects what they want to see on a team, and some because there are new players and the old ones have retired and they do not have the enthusiasm of the old players.
We fans are paying for attention and time, and we even spend money for our favorite. If a supporter changes his favorite, there is a compelling reason, and there are supporters who for many years stayed on their favorite team, whether they perform better or not.
Its really on the personality of the supporter, but they should not be blamed if they want to change their team; its their choice, and they have a right to their choice.

If its possible t be a Fan to more than one club in football then i have two favorite teams. One is in the LA Liga and the other in the EPL. I have been a football lover  since when i was a kid, so i rarely miss watching football games which i enjoyed watching with my dad. My favorite team in the LA Liga is Real Madrid. I love how they play in every competition, giving it their best till the last minute.

Before someone can call himself a sport Fan he must be passionate about the club he is supporting  both in good and bad seasons. Because this is a normal thing in football that some season becomes difficult for your favorite team to play well.  When it comes to that time, your support is the best thing that you can give as a Fan. Any person who will switch to another club because his previous club is down performing is not a true Fan. He is only there because they were doing fine and when they start doing so bad he run away.

Due to circumstances, my favorite teams vary. This is due to my husband's job, and of course, the teams belong to the country we live in. Yes, when you are interested in the team's win not just as a fan but as a person directly related to it, you still want to see the team's results excellent.
But yes, some fans are real fans, and sometimes they know better about the players' condition and way of playing than the coaches who come and go. I sometimes listen to such fans, and I think that some of them would become good managers of their teams since they are ready to follow them everywhere, regularly supporting them.

Are you talking about a club or an individual's favorite team, I think in the world of football a team consists of 11 people, as far as I know most people are fanatics and their favorite is the club or just the midfielder, goalkeeper or striker, The distance I see is that football fans' favorites are for one team, there are many clubs, but within the clubs they are divided again as I said above.

To be honest, I don't guide teams, I only guide one of my favorite teams, such as the striker and midfielder or the goalkeeper, these three people are my favorites, regardless of which club they play for, the point is that I always follow them.

So these three teams are not playing, of course I don't want to place a bet, if these three teams are not playing, so in the world of football I am not a favorite for those 11 teams, only certain ones.

I'm not sure though if I have a favorite team let's say in basketball, I just love the game and so I don't have any favorite team for now. I usually when I bet, I want to be not biased on one team and make the right decision. Because I know that if I have one, for sure I'm going to favor them and my decision will obviously be clouded and it might result in more losses on my end.

But if I'm going to change or switch teams? most likely if my favorite team is really not doing good, players are bad, coaches doesn't know what he is doing or even if the owner himself is getting not so good players.

The affections of a true sport fan is always joyful that nomatter how bad your favourite team would perform you will always be proactive to defend them in the public when being mocked.

Perhaps you can always hold upon your teams years past glories to hype them at some points of arguing with others team fans.

Infact, the love accompanied if be a true sport fan especially football sports can be appetizing and even when that your favorite team is not impressing you in a long run, you will always have that courage to keep holding on hoping better days would come ahead of time.
And deep inside, you could go mad at every silly mistakes of your team without expressing it out to an opposition club fan.
