An upcoming episode of The Good Wife, an American legal drama television series, will tell a fictional story that creatively draws from the real-life drama of Bitcoin.

“Bitcoin For Dummies” – Alicia defends a lawyer who hires the firm after the government arrests him for not revealing the name of an anonymous client: a mysterious computer programmer who illegally invented a new online currency, on “THE GOOD WIFE,” Sunday, Jan. 15 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television.  Jason Biggs (“American Pie”) guest stars as Alicia’s latest client.  Carrie Preston (“True Blood”) returns as Elsbeth Tascioni.

But will they actually say "Bitcoin"?

The title is the part in quotes, so.... uhh yeah.

The problem with Satoshi being anonymous is that he's never going to be able to defend from slanderous representations of himself. I'm sure they'll make him out to be some anti-government aloof slob. They'll probably even call him Satoshi in the show since he can't defend himself.

Showing the word Bitcoin in the title and using it in the actors/actresses dialogue are completely different things. Flash the title "Bitcoins for Dummies" once at the beginning(if they even do that) would be small, the characters saying Bitcoin a dozen times or so would be huge.

Why's it got to be illegal?

Do not waste your time debating whether Bitcoin can work. It does work.

"Early adopters will profit" is not a sufficient condition to classify something as a pyramid or Ponzi scheme. If it was, Apple and Microsoft stock are Ponzi schemes.

There is no such thing as "market manipulation." There is only buying and selling.

Some people believe that sh!t though!

But, I agree with Slave, it needs to be said a few times throughout the show to have a real impact. Many people miss the first few minutes of their show, so they would never even see the title.

No doubt, I wonder if he ever comes out. I think not, but eventually it'll be somewhat apparent. Most spaceships and all that.

I don't know this tv series. But i assume it's like most other series, just a story.

I doubt the people that watch this will even stop a minute to think if this bitcoin thing even exists outside the fantasy of the story writer.

Hopefully im wrong here and is this series based on real life events Smiley (and that people know this...)

My opinion is that shows like these are not to promote idealism, but to start the drumbeat to war. Bring it on.

There are already plenty of news articles doing that.  And yet bitcoin prevails.  I'm not worried.  I've already posted the date & time on facebook & will be telling everyone to watch this in January!

I wonder how to illegally invent something.

Inventing something illegal is easy, but illegally inventing it?

Was he under some kind of non-competion contract at the time, binding him to avoid inventing things of that kind?

Did the writers of Ocean's ## illegally invent ways of stealing from casinos or just invent illegal ways of steal from casinos?

Is "illegally inventing" some kind of special highly technical legal terminology?

Under what circumstances is it illegal to invent something?

I could understand some inventions possibly being illegal to explicitly detail to the public or something like that, but one has already invented the thing proably prior to illegally revealing what exactly one has invented or how it works.

So this seems a very peculiar turn of phrase.

My best guess, I guess, is the ban of some kind, under a court order not to invent things, or not to invent certain kinds of things. But that would be very different from Satoshi's story wouldn't it?

Ask the thought police Wink

For the non paranoid people it's probably just a slip by the writer (of the episode or the press release) and they actually meant "invent something illegal".

The executive producers of this show are not the right wing fear mongers used during the 43rd POTUS administration. This may not be the FUDstorm I once expected. I'm now predicting that the show will either get cancelled, preempted, or up against the [nearly] undefeated Green Bay Packers and be unseen by anyone without a DVR or Hulu.
