Hi,

I am holding this coin in my own wallet then I realised there's 2 versions of Polygon on CMC. How do I know which one I am holding in my wallet?

Are they both the same or different?

I don't want to send my Polygon to a Polygon address that does not support my polygon resulting in losing my polygon coins forever you know what I mean.

What I do to find out? Huh

There isn't really a difference.

The one listen as POL (ex-MATIC) is the new version. The only reason why Polygon MATIC is still listed, is mainly because some exchanges still have not bridged their liquidity. I believe Coinbase and Kraken by looking at the trading volume.

If you had the funds in Polygon POS prior to this upgrade, you automatically have the new version and you don't have to do anything.

If you had your MATIC on either ERC20 or zkEVM chain, then you need to bridge them over. If I had to guess, I would say you probably don't need to do anything, as most people were using the Polygon POS chain.

Do you mean the Polygon on Coinbase & Kraken is the new ex-matic version?

You mean Polygon on the Ethereum chain or zkEVM layer or chain?

To confirm if I have the old Polygon and send it to a a newer ex-matic polygon address then it is okay I wont lose my polygon forever?

I believe for Proper guidance you should tell us what's is written on what you are holding is it polygon Matic or polygon ex-matic?

In addition @Omegastarscream has explained it perfectly and I believe you should understand it now without any fear or uncertainty regardless I going by you post I would ask you always cross check the network you are sending any Crypto-currency to ensure it tallies with that of the wallet you are sending it to.

What I meant to say is that it looks like Kraken and Coinbase still have not migrated all of their assets.

The question you should be asking is whether you need to migrate and bridge your funds or not; My question is:

- Did you hold your MATIC in either Polygon zkEVM or Ethereum's (ERC20) network?

If the answer is yes, you should bridge your MATIC manually.

If the answer is NO, then you're all set. Your funds are automatically upgraded to POL (ex-MATIC) on CMC. No migration is needed (as if nothing happened) and you should be able to deal with all the exchanges listed here:

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/polygon-ecosystem-token/#Markets (basically any exchange you can think of)

Okay just to confirm if I buy Pol ex-Matic and send it to my own wallet and in my own wallet it say pol ex-matic then I have the new version? If my own wallet says polygon matic not pol ex-matic then I have the old version? So if I do not see the key word 'ex-Matic' then I definitely have the old version?

Is zkEVM the native chain for polygon? I cannot understand why would anyone hold polygon on the Ethereum ERC20 more expensive fee chain if there is a much cheaper native official chain for polygon?

How do you bridge Polygon Matic manually just in case?

And lastly why both versions are exactly the same price when one is suppose to better than the other and doesn't have 2 versions running simultaneously dilutes the valuation causing inflation on existing polygon coins?

Finally why is that most altcoins that have a pump and dump pattern in its historic chart release a new updated new branded new name version of the same coin trying to get a fresh chart with no pump & dump pattern just before the new bull market cycle?

Everyone was competiting to be the first true Ethereum L2 instead of a sidechain (what Polygon POS is). That's how zkEVM came to life.

The ERC20 was needed because that's what was securing the network. From my understanding, you could not stake MATIC on Polygon POS, and at the same time, take advantage of Ethereum's security.

You should not even think about the old version you're seeing on the site. It will eventually be removed as soon as exchanges remove the tickers and migrate their liquidity.

As to whether this is related to the bull market or not, then I don't believe so. "The new POL token" was planned many months before, it's the first step before introducing "The AggLayer". I suggest you give it a read if you're interested in their project.
