There isn't really a difference.
The one listen as POL (ex-MATIC) is the new version. The only reason why Polygon MATIC is still listed, is mainly because some exchanges still have not bridged their liquidity. I believe Coinbase and Kraken by looking at the trading volume.
If you had the funds in Polygon POS prior to this upgrade, you automatically have the new version and you don't have to do anything.
If you had your MATIC on either ERC20 or zkEVM chain, then you need to bridge them over. If I had to guess, I would say you probably don't need to do anything, as most people were using the Polygon POS chain.
Do you mean the Polygon on Coinbase & Kraken is the new ex-matic version?
You mean Polygon on the Ethereum chain or zkEVM layer or chain?
To confirm if I have the old Polygon and send it to a a newer ex-matic polygon address then it is okay I wont lose my polygon forever?
What I meant to say is that it looks like Kraken and Coinbase still have not migrated all of their assets.
The question you should be asking is whether you need to migrate and bridge your funds or not; My question is:
- Did you hold your MATIC in either Polygon zkEVM or Ethereum's (ERC20) network?
If the answer is yes, you should bridge your MATIC manually.
If the answer is NO, then you're all set. Your funds are automatically upgraded to POL (ex-MATIC) on CMC. No migration is needed (as if nothing happened) and you should be able to deal with all the exchanges listed here:
