BTW... there is this little thing... if you leave or try to play against the interests of the EU as a group... you do not get any of this... so... good luck with your new leader, if it really becomes the leader.
Tell that to the UK.

Believe me, UK already knows. In the EU there are countries that are more developed and contribute, while others are being developed.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_effects_of_BrexitFrom December 2020, the payments accrue twice a year. By 31 December 2023, the UK had paid a net amount of £23.8 billion, leaving an estimated £6.4 billion outstanding. A further £2.4 billion was due to have been paid by May 2024 with the remaining £4.0 billion being payable up until 2065.
The majority of economists believe that Brexit has harmed the UK's economy and reduced its real per capita income in the long term, and the referendum itself damaged the economy.[2][3][4][5][6] It is likely to produce a large decline in immigration from countries in the European Economic Area (EEA) to the UK,[7] and poses challenges for British higher education and academic research.[8]
An all this is for a large and globally significant and well connected country. Romania is not economically as significant - let's be honest, it is not even close - and requires EU funds to develop the industry, the services and everything else. Again, if they choose - really choose - to leave the EU they can have a look at how Orban managed to get the funds cut from the EU.
But I fully understand Romanians, they are great people and they can make the right decissions when leaders are no longer of use to them...

Ceaușescu and his wife Elena fled the capital in a helicopter enrouting to Vatican via Vienna, Austria, but they were captured in Romanian territory by the military after the armed forces defected. After being tried and convicted of economic sabotage and genocide, both were sentenced to death, and they were immediately executed by firing squad on 25 December.

So the vote was not for Putin. What I really cannot understand is why, if the people of some European country elect a right-wing nationalist politician, then talk immediately begins about a Russian trace?
Would those be the same "right wing nationalists" that often happen to be great admirers of the deranged KGB gnome, who happens to run troll farms (or buy politicians outright) that happen to promote "right wing nationalism" outside of Russia? What a weird coincidence.
I think you are an idiot, confusing right with left. It was on the wave of right-wing nationalism that Hitler legally came to power in the 1930s. Europe turned too far to the left and received the expected popular protest turn to the right. It is childish to look for Putin's influence here; Putin has enough of his own concerns to waste resources on propaganda in Romania.
There is no "right" or "left" here, there are authoritarians and democrats. Both the extreme left and extreme right touch on breaking the EU and approaching totalitarians (Putin, Orban, Xi, ...).
It is the same old same old... people who need a leader to tell them what to do versus people who tell their leaders what to do. I know which one I am in.
