Sales strategy- commission some treasure boxes, then write and sell a book about how to find those boxes, surely people are going to buy your book and try their luck, that way you drive up sale of your book and make more money. I believe we do not know all that's in each of the boxes and the photo in the op looks exaggerated, however, it could take years before these boxes are found and in the meantime he makes money from book sales.

That's it, but I also think he was having a lot of fun preparing this thing. I believe he knew that this is going to pay for itself in book sales, but it was something innovative, especially due to its contents. Not many people treat bitcoin as something valuable. If you offered physical bitcoin to someone in the street, most people would walk by thinking it's some kind of scam.

Imagine that someone finds the treasure and the author interviews him and all his struggles and writes a separate book comparing approaches that different people had and their journeys to find the treasure. It could be a never ending story of treasure books for this guy.

You have to admit that the man has come up with a good strategy to promote his book, while also having a good time watching people search for his hidden treasure. However, this is something only for those who live in the US or who would be willing to travel there to try their luck at treasure hunting - the rest of us can only observe and wish luck to those who will start their search.
It would be a fiasco if the profit from the sold books turned out to be less than the contents of the treasure box. Smiley The contents of the treasure chest in the pictures are too abundant in the number of gold items.

True, there are several 1kg gold bars in the picture, and that would mean that the entire "treasure" is probably worth several hundred thousand $ at today's prices - although it should be taken into account that it is possible that the owner bought it over the years and paid much less.

Perhaps his strategy is that the clues leading to the treasure will be very difficult to discover and that a lot of people will have to buy the book before all the boxes are finally discovered. It also doesn't seem to me that it will be a book that costs $10 or $20, considering that it hides traces of potentially great value.

Better to make this hunt a very good one then.

So that there would be more of them to come.
And he would be able to improve them / make them more interesting.

Yeah, I think the treasure seems to be substantial.

It also includes different types of wealth, such as gold, collectibles, etc.

It's exciting to see things like this, I'm glad the person who created this took the time, and money, to do this. He could have simply continued his life and not do it.

He's clearly one of those people who wants to be remembered or at least get a moment in the spotlight. In any case, he did something interesting, because searches for lost/hidden treasures have always been something that attracted people. It would certainly be a big challenge for me if he had somehow hidden at least part of the treasure somewhere in Europe - and when I think about it a little more, it would be far more interesting if he had hidden the treasure on multiple continents.

It will be interesting to learn every new detail related to this search - I hope you will update the topic when the first box is found.

In my opinion, we cannot take that picture alone as the literal measurement of how much the treasure will worth it. I understand that the guy who wrote this book is already rich and successful enough, but I still doubt that anyone will give that much money freely, not even the rich one. He must have calculated the amount of the treasure's value compared of how much he will receive revenue through sales, especially because he is rich and successful, he must have a good prediction and calculation. If the treasure is really that big, it must have taken a quite long time before someone found it.

Jon Collins-Black, a web entrepreneur and early Bitcoin investor, made his fortune by selling a website and hodling his Bitcoin from the early days.

He wrote a book, There's Treasure Inside, which contain all the instructions and hints required to get the loot.

Collins-Black commissioned five unique puzzle boxes, which have been scattered across the United States, four of similar sizes and then one larger box containing the lion’s share of the fortune.

“We’re in a digital world and what I’ve put together is an analog adventure,” he says of his new book There’s Treasure Inside. “All you need is a book, some water and some shoes.”

The treasure contains one of the physical Bitcoins by Casascius.

So, why did this guy do this? Just for fun!

“At the end of the day, there’s value to the excitement and the joy of the experience,” he says. “That sounds like cliché but for me, when I was searching for Forrest Fenn’s treasure, it was the idea of it that was most exciting. If I had found the treasure it would have been euphoric, but I don't know if it would have exceeded the total joy that I had just through the whole process of it.”

I read about this somewhere and I am so excited to see more stuff like this. Especially seeing that there is a cass coin in there? that is awesome! It looks like a wonderful grouping of previous metals with an overall mellow feel to it and to the folks doing that I am very curious how to find the clues / map for this. I love treasure hunts!

Maybe there's a disclaimer somewhere that the image is only of symbolic value and doesn't represent the actual value of the hidden boxes - I really haven't researched that. We all know how marketing is used today and that there are a lot of things that try to convince the customer that something is as it really is not. We will only know the truth when someone finds at least one or all of the boxes.

I learned about this treasure hunt in a recently released documentary that deals with one of the largest treasure hunts in modern history, involving hundreds of thousands of people, and it is about the famous Forrest Fenn treasure. Given that Justin Posey was one of those who were looking for that treasure and that he was literally a few tens of meters from it and did not notice it, after the treasure was found and after he bought part of the Fenns treasure at the auction, he decided to bury his treasure chest, which includes a lot of value, including a BTC wallet.

PAMP Suisse kilogram bars, gold flakes, gold dust, and more. Large loose emeralds, rubies, and deep purple amethysts. Filled with artifacts throughout history-the 3rd century Kushan Dynasty, the Crusades, the Byzantine Empire, even the Persian Shi'ite Buyid Dynasty. I included one of the oldest coins ever made by man during the Lydian empire around 561 BC. A large meteorite and other special pieces. A cryptocurrency component that grows with book sales.

Bad news for those looking for BTC treasure, because as far as I can see the address mentioned on that page only has a little over $30 worth of BTC.

In any case, the chest is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, probably much more considering that it also contains some very valuable historical items. Good luck to everyone who decides to go on a treasure hunt.

He invested $50k when btc was $125 so he had 400 bitcoin which makes him rich. I don't know why he's put the clues in a book to find the buried 5 treasure boxes. Jon Collins-Black says he wrote There’s Treasure Inside because it's fun but he could've used a free website if he wanted ppl to have fun. You'll have to pay $35 on Amazon to buy the book.
