I dont have an idea about the fragment thing but base on the conversation right there this is already skeptical imagine why people buying your username with tons of possible username they can made, I we're on that I immediately block the contact of that person and ignore if I receive the same thing, it seems like they are trying to get you in having a casual conversation like deceiving until they got you, as possible if upon conversation there's a link involved do not take any action just leave to make you safe. Like wise we always saying don't talk to strangers.

Thank God you didn't fall for the scam. The link he sent is obviously a drainer and if you had clicked it, you would have lost your funds. I know about fragment and how the selling of telegram username works, although I've not sold any. Since you are the one selling, you are not supposed to fund your account, it should be the buyers job. Yours is to put up your username for sale on the platform while he connects his wallet, accept the username and pays.
OP already knew from the start that it was a scam and just went along out of curiosity on the next move.

For those of us who are seasoned in crypto, we can usually tell right away from the intro if there’s a potential scam attempt. And since this happened on Telegram (where scammers are everywhere), we need to be even more cautious.

Scammers, seriously! Imagine asking for a wallet with a 35 TON balance, that’s already a significant amount. They really don’t hold back, do they?

For quite some time now, I have known Telegram to be a scammers eden and I'm always careful dealing with unknown person there. Some few days back, I received a message from unknown person offering to buy my Telegram Username for 700 TON which is equivalent to $3,990. If you are greedy type you'll easily fall for their trick.

I already know it's a scam trick but I pretended and played along to know which format it is this time around. After some chit chat with the unknown person, I agreed to sell the Username. I asked about the payment process and he made mention of FRAGMENT which I'm not actually conversant with. He asked me to fund the wallet with 35 TON (5%) of the agreed amount he's offering to buy my Username. At this point, I'm certain it's definitely a scam and become extra careful.

To cut it short, he sent me a link to click and proceed with the transaction. I never click the link thou but I previewed the link and the details are shown in the screenshot below.

I was actually too busy and we were not able to get to the end of the drama. Now, his account is showing deleted account on Telegram. So, I have some few questions;
i. How does Fragment method of transaction really work?
ii. Has anyone experienced this method of scamming before?
iii. What's the trick here? How will it likely end?

Warning! No newbie should ever entertain conversation to this stage with a total stranger as they're likely to fall victim. I'm confident on myself because I'm familiar with their games.

What is that thing that is so special about your telegram account that made the scammer to be very much interested in getting that your account? Just imagine the huge amount of money he wish to offer you just to get the account, but to be honest with you I don't think if he's for  the account I think is just a way of starting a conversation with you. But thank goodness that you didn't click the link he asked you to click because sometimes they can have your account hacked through those link. But thank God you're smart enough to notice that the person you're dealing with is a scammer right from when you both first started the conversation LoL.

To be on the safer side, you are not supposed to click on a link sent to you by a stranger; in the first place, it could be a phishing link attack.

Some scammers don't necessarily need you to send them money first before you fall victim to their scam by clicking on the link they send to you alone; you can endanger your personal data and everything that's located on the gadget you use.
Clicking on a link you don't know anything about is very dengerous, because that's the strategy scammers are using now to scam people's money. Most of them would be chatting with you and before you know it he would start referring you to click on a link, and if you mistakely click on it, everything would just vanished immediately and it will look like a dreaming to you. However, it's essential to be cautious when interacting with unfamiliar individuals or massages, especially those that ask you to click on links or provide sensitive information.

There is absolutely nothing special in my telegram ID that will make it worth such huge amount. The amount he was willing to offer was just to deceive their victims but on a normal circumstance, that strategy will only work on greedy people who aim to reap where they did not sow. I don't think a genuine project will wish to offer such amount to get a telegram username that has nothing to do with their project. Unless you are newbie in this space or probably first time having encounter with scammers, it's not too hard to identify them and their suspicions ways but if you allow greediness to control your mind, you'll likely fall into their trap. And yeah, it's very unwise to click on random links that was shared by strangers.

From the onset the scammer mentioned buying your account, that was the red flag looming, if I may ask, did you take out time to check the telegram group you both belong to in common so you could have been able to trace or track the scammer conversation on the group and possibly expose them the more before they had deleted their contact entirely.

I was wondering as the scammer wants to buy your telegram name which means him buying your telegram account if I am not mistaken, would the scammer also buy your phone number used in registering the tlegram account? these are the things they fail to understand before carrying out their dirty business. They just feel that those tricks could work maybe for some people not everybody would fall for such stupidity. OP, the scammer already knows you are knowledgeable enough to decipher his tricks hence he quickly deleted his account because you might go further to blow his cover.

apart from the fact that you knew your reason for prolonging the chat when you already know from the onset that he is a scammer, i have always have my fears while dealing with scammers and trying to allow them work you through their strategy just because you want to know how the whole stuff will end. some people in the process of doing this have actually fallen for these scammers because they have a way of getting you to do what they want as long as you continue to engage with them in the discussion. conversing with them is actually a trick on it own and so as long as you feel odd about the whole thing, just cut it off and don't go any further.

this kind of scam is too basic for anyone that knows about how scammers operate to fall victim of apart from newbies and some others that wants to assume that they can outsmart the scammer, regardless of how you paint the scenario, if i have to send you first even if it is the least amount of penny before i can get paid for whatever i am dealing with you most especially in a platform like the telegram that has been occupied by scammers since the start of airdrops, the negotiation is going no further because you can never convince me to doin a thing as that.

Hello. I ve been reading this forum for ages but today decided to post

Got the same message today:

Did not realise it was a scammer, all seemed legit until the point i discovered the bot the scammer offered for a trade:

He offered to pay 5% of the deal as "Security deposit"
He offered to pay 450TON as 5% of 9000TON

I told him i don't have 450, so can he lower the price.

He agreed, and lowered the price for 1000TON 5% of 1000 is 50

The main thing that seemed strange to me was "UserFlowManagerBot"

OP are you saying that if this person offers you small amount of money that's worth your telegram account you would have given the stranger a chance? You could have block him straight away, stop giving strangers the chance to explain themselves, there is no one out there who cares about you, unless they know you in the real life.

Any stranger that text you have no good plan for you, they text you to take advantage of you, adjust your telegram security settings and stop accepting messages from strangers, you can adjust your security settings to receive text from your sim contacts only, safe yourself the stress.

Exactly. You described the point i had in mind. After you top up the balance with 450TONs he frees up your wallet and dissappears

See the screenshots above.

A greedy man that is after money will always fall for this trick, because how on earth can we receive a message from unknown user on tel5 and accept anything they requested from us as offer, don't we know that they are trying to get what we have instead of them giving us from what they have acquired, we should be very careful of responding to unfamiliar contacts from social media giving us offers, most of them have been found to be scam in pretense as offers, a d that is what most victims fall for, when they are awaiting for a free offer.

Somethings are very avoidable. I don't know how other people treat telegram people but I'm very specialize in blocking them when I see them. To protect my self, I have block pm from private account and I have also banned accounts from forward message from groups and channels. It I see your message and you are not from my contact, I instantly give straight blocking, I don't like to stress myself because I know I will never get anything from telegram.

If I see any message from any from telegram and I see your nakedness, I block the account even if you are real. These are the flags we should be looking out for and not wait until you are been caught up between their fake message or investment.
I still remember when I use to do telegram mining, there is no type of investment that I never received from people on telegram but thank goodness, all those telegram airdrops are no longer working, you hardly see them of recently.

I also have some questions to the OP and they are as follows;
As you stated earlier that only greedy people will fall so if not greed what will make you want to sell your account?
If not greed what will make you want to follow all the steps till that point?
Why are you still curious to know the end point? Offcourse you know it's an obvious scammed.
Im not trying to say you are greedy but sometimes we use our hands to look for the problems that we get sometimes. Why not avoid this obvious trouble that you are seeing instead living in regrets later on.

It seems like someone just resurrected this scam technique I thought have died a natural death. @DYING_S0UL faced similar experience with this telegram scammer recently and I am glad he was smart too not to get convinced to proceed with the transaction. I am glad this issue is brought here so everyone will know about it  and know how to respond to these scammers when they finally meet them.

FYI, this is not the first time I have faced this particular scam. There were literally countless time, every months someone from this fake fragment sent me these offers! Sometimes offering $5000, sometimes $10,000, even $15,000, I once got. This method was like on the back of my hand! I could tell what their next message would be! Lmao!

I could have just blocked them right away! But then I though, life, why not waste their precious time! Let there be one less victim they can scam.. Grin

I also have some questions to the OP and they are as follows;
Experience they say is the best teacher. Sometimes if you don't experience something you may never learn well. According to how the conservation was going , it was seemingly obvious that he was just playing along so as to know what new strategy the said scammer had come up with. Scam is everywhere , the more we get to know every scheme they come up with, the more cautious steps we put in place.

Warning! No newbie should ever entertain conversation to this stage with a total stranger as they're likely to fall victim. I'm confident on myself because I'm familiar with their games.

I'm glad scammers are becoming very stupid enough to make their scams very obvious to tell unlike how it was few years back. Scammers and becoming really dumb and I'm happy for them lol Grin I've had series of scam attacks but non seems to succeed because I've understood how they operate and most importantly understand that there is no free money in the world especially when the offer seems too good to be true. I wouldn't recommend anyone to sell or make trades with anyone who they have not physically met, the only exception is if the person has a known reputable guarantor.

I don't know much about Telegram's wallet, Fragment etc, but what I know for sure is that when someone is trying to manipulate into pressuring you, it's almost certainly a scam. He "lowered" his price from 700 TON to 500 because you were late to reply to him. Even if he supposedly wanted to purchase your username, which makes no sense for Telegram but we'll ignore that part, it would be used for malicious activities and possibly get you involved, but as it has already been mentioned, why would anyone buy a Telegram generic nickname?

Scammers are going to great lengths to scam people nowadays.

Creating pressure and giving some kind of deal are ways most commonly used by scammers.
With strangers, any messages relate to money are considered as very risky and most likely scam offers.

Scammers can use many scam methods but there are most popular scam methods used by such bad guys. Reading the book, learning about most used scam methods can help people more easily avoiding scams.
