I doubt you will lose your money more when you are gambling for profit compared to when you are gambling for fun. Sooo, gambling is "investing"? How much money have you made from your "gambling investments"? If you don't make consistent returns of this "investment" you shouldn't consider it as an investment. Some investments are riskier than others, but gambling is the only "investment opportunity", where the expected long term ROI is always negative. There's no way for any gambler to achieve a positive long term ROI out of gambling. I've always thought that the "gamble to make money" mentality is the fastest way to become addicted. It looked off to me as well, but after weighing all points and factors together, I discovered that gambling for fun is not out of place. In practice, people gamble for money and for fun, the only distinction is that more people gamble to make money than those who gamble to have fun. I will also not blame those who are gambling for fun, they might need it, I have been in their shoe before, just to while away time or just engage in some other activities when your hobbies are no more working. I see this as no big deal and the money used should be considered as the access fee for the fun.
