Maybe if I can get the entire thing, 21million of it but that would mean, no one else has it or desires it and I’ll be a mess!

Well, human desires are one thing and you can never pinpoint where that might be or end for you I think. When you get there, you tend to want other things. It’s not greed, it’s just growth and the need to push further, breaking boundaries.

I don’t plan on retiring based on what I’ve acquired, nope that’s not the plan for me. I plan on taking a rest when my strength fails me and I can no longer do the things I get by with, with ease.

I think there are a bunch of variables to consider, such as time window, what 1BTC will be worth down the line, etc.

You really can only plan in terms of approximate cash value now for your projections, and know BTC is only going to go up in the big picture.

Yes, plus also it really depends on the country where you're going to retire, as the living costs change dramatically.

Also, it depends on the lifestyle you want, as different lifestyles differ in cost by a lot.

It's not really possible to give a simple answer to this question, but it does make you think about it, and I think it's a good idea to start thinking about retirement and saving more Bitcoin.

Everyone certainly longs to get a place of financial freedom consciously from now on without having to struggle, it will all be in vain if we do not implement/save from an early age for our old age needs from now on, I am sure that the adjustment of needs will come by itself, meaning it is not a big problem for us to consider, we just have to be rational in spending.

Those who are retiring in next one or two years are in better position to answer this question, since they know there retirement date with idea of bitcoin price. But it's difficult for those people to answer this question who are retiring after 15 or more years. At the time of retirement we are old and need finances to cover our medical bills, pay children higher education and more. I can say I have 15 to 20 more years to work before getting retired and I am not sure what will be price of Bitcoin at that time. But if I am retiring in current year with Bitcoin price of 100k then for me 2 Bitcoin will be good enough to live rest of my life.
If we follow in cryptocurrency market, we can see that bitcoin price is always running in high and low position in cryptocurrency market. So in this situation, if we want to select how much bitcoin do need for retirement in future. I think that in this time it will be difficult for us. But if we want to select $100k, then 2 bitcoin will be best achievement for my retirement in future. Because we know that for my old life, I also need to many essential elements for me. So in this time I believe that 2 bitcoin will be enough for best future. At least I think that we should trying to prepare for future life for happy ness.

Responsibility and rationality - two pillars of literally anything regarding the investment field and crypto in general  Wink
If a person does everything consistently - then everything is going to go well, even better than that, imo.
But if not - then it's a choice of a person to not to be determined regarding his days being old.

Actually in more developing and 3rd world countries, 1 BTC could really worth a lot. But I will say that in order to build at least generational wealth, it will take more than 1 Bitcoin in my opinion.

Two might be good, but still though, you need to account your lifestyle and your family as well or worst case scenario when we die we should have something for them as a inheritance and Bitcoin is a very good candidate for that and we have a lot of topics that pertains to it as a inheritance. So most like > 2 BTC might be enough for most of us here.

The thread is about our views of how much that will be enough for us for retirement. The discussion is not about how many Bitcoins we will need before we retire but how many will be enough to sustain us during retirement. So people will give their views based on their lifestyle and expenses. People who want to live an extravagant life will need more money to survive. But for people like me who live moderately and don't have much interest in luxury, ten or more Bitcoins will be enough to have a good retirement. The amount of Bitcoin an individual will need will also depend on the cost of living in his country.  Someone living in the US or UK will need more money than those living in Africa.

Currently, each bitcoin is worth $100k and owning 1 or 2 bitcoins will not be enough to make us rich or a huge asset that will help us live comfortably in old age. But if we can hold 1BTC until retirement and each bitcoin is worth $1 million or more, I think that would be enough for us to retire even if we live in a developed country.

Of course, owning more bitcoins is a good thing, but we should also be realistic that owning 1BTC is not an easy task these days, let alone owning more. Setting goals and achieving goals are two different things because there is a big gap between saying and doing, we should set goals that are suitable for our abilities and circumstances.

We'll be there in a bigger value of Bitcoin in the next cycles. And if some are saying that 1 BTC could make their lives changed and comfortable at the current rate it, how much more if someone can save 2 or more? That's a life-changing deed by Bitcoin.

So most like > 2 BTC might be enough for most of us here.
I agree, living in developing countries and first world countries the amount that 2 BTC has is enough to have a good life. Whilst for the first world countries, it will make you comfortable in living but not yet categorized in being rich but for those developing countries, it's different, things are cheaper there and can be said you're one of the riches.

Well, even though 2 bitcoins at the current rate can convert to a lot of money in my local currency as well, I don't think it's going to be enough for me to retire unless I have housing and everything else sorted and only need money to eat food three times a day for which it will be enough, of course. However, if you have a family, plan to buy a better house/property, need to buy a car, and take care of the family, your children, their education, future expenses, and everything else, it won't be enough.

That being said, I think it's wiser to use that sort of money in starting a business, or maybe a few, in locations around your city/country where you believe the businesses are going to get you good revenue over time and if even a couple of your businesses become successful, you and your family are going to live a luxurious life for sure.

However, since the topic is about how many bitcoins are going to be enough for your retirement, I would say more than 10, considering the price of Bitcoin stays around or above its current value.

You have to think of how much fiat currency you need for your retirement, and if you can make your target number with inflation rate taken into account, it's better.

The fact is with same target number of fiat currency you want to have for your retirement, you will need to have less bitcoin with time. Because Bitcoin has risen a lot since 2009, there are bullish and bearish years but the trend is up over years.
https://charts.bitbo.io/yearly-candles/

The right question, in my opinion, is how will you do to accumulate as many bitcoin as you can?
The more bitcoins you can accumulate is the better, that's it, and it will give you more money than your target retirement budget.

how many btc do you estimate you'll need to secure your retirement without the help of the state, private insurance or your family?

i still am quite young yes not as young anymore but also not as old there is still so much to do with life if i start saving up for retirement today i might need the money for daily expenses instead so i need to make sure first that my current financial situation is stable enough

in short, there is no way i can know how much i need until retirement but the best amount of course is the maximum one will you give all of us what we want? lol

As I said in a thread:

I plan to never retire.

But to answer the question as it is focused in the thread I would say as of today about 100 bitcoins (equivalent to $10M today). With that amount I could be sure I wouldn't need to work if I didn't want to and me and mine would be covered with a good standard of living that would allow for travel or relocation, investing, meeting medical expenses and the like. You can retire on less but to retire as a hermit I will not retire.

I would say 21 BTC but we are talking about retirement which means life becomes a little boring especially if you aren't spending $$$ hoping for the little in your stash to grow while you seat back..for this the number just went up...maybe 100 Bitcoins would do wonders especially if I can have 20 BTC to spend and continue living while waiting for the rest of the coins to do the heavy lifting maybe grow x5 or x10 etc.

Depends on where you live. Where I live, having 2 bitcoins means that you can definitely retire. Doesn't mean that you are going to end up becoming super wealthy, it just means it's enough to live off that forever. This also depends on if you have a car and a house as well, because if you do not have a house, just the house itself is 2 bitcoins to begin with, at least one that I would be ok with living in.

However, I own my house, so I do not have a problem, and I have a car too, sure it is getting older, but I am not really forced to change it, or if you really want to, just make it 2.1 bitcoins instead of 2 bitcoins and you added a brand new car too. With that in mind, if I have 2 bitcoins (aka 200k dollars) I would retire easily if I wanted to. I am not going to spend 200k in 20 years, and retirement age should be around 60 years old earliest, retiring before that makes no sense, what are you going to do all day at home.

It depends on our lifestyle and where we live and how much is the most reasonable average annual need that we spend. An estimate of $70,000 per year is safe. We just need to divide it by the current BTC price and let's say it's only 100K and our retirement has started now, so, the estimate is around 0.7 BTC × 30 = 21 BTC with a duration of 30 years and this maybe estimation in category safe and comfortable if my assumption.
