Did Satoshi or other famous early players ever comment about governments buying and holding Bitcoin? Seems like a sign of desperation for the fiat money goons.

People don't understand what a sovereign wealth fund is. And I don't think trump understands the implications either.
Right now the economy has too much debt. It also can't afford to contract because of mounting debt pressure.

Yet a sovereign wealth fund would put so much cash on stash instead of getting it invested directly. It feels that sometimes even for a right wing guy his politics won't let him do his capitalist thing right. And then you had people in the US calling democrats socialists haha. US politics are so pitiful sometimes. But to say BTC will reach 400k because of such fund is even more absurd.

If the US creates a bitcoin reserve, this could easily happen.  Pure supply and demand.  And once a large country starts it will become a race.

Holy moly and I thought $200k was a hopeful figure lol I mean even PlanB is adjusting more and more to conservative, and he's kinda my meter of what's optimistic these days.

We all realize that is BTC goes that high then the old Bitcoin cycle and Halving meter is no longer relevant right?

Back in 2010, $1 aka dollar parity was hopeful.   Then $10, then $30, $100, $1000 etc.  I think it all depends on the current price.  At every peak, people said to sell and obviously plenty of people did when the right course has turned out to be, just buy (or mine back then) and forget about it for years or decades and wait.  Is that still true?  Given the catalysts from ETFs to bitcoin reserves, not to mention on the technical side and usage side, it seems like it to me.  Another order or two of magnitude in fiat price is certainly possible.

Each halving has been different with different events helping or hurting.  Given the current block reward going forward while halvings are still relevant, they will become less and less so.  Going from 50 to 25 and then to 12.5 had much larger impacts on new supply as compared to already mined supply as compared to now.

Sure, but hoping for $1000 when it was $100+ was not too much of a dream when not even 0.1% of people had heard about Bitcoin yet. But when we were at $10000 and half the world knew about BTC, people were dreaming of 1 million and even 2 million.

That's not hopeful, that's pointless fantasy.

You can't dream of it now even when 99% of the world knows about it. Another order or two magnitude possible, but not in 2025. We had a world record liquidation on Monday, and BTC didn't even move 10%.

Definitely many more people know about bitcoin now.  I wonder what the true uptake is in %s.  I think it varies by country, but I suspect that it is still a low percentage.  :-)

Also depends on what people mean by uptake. Owning actual btc in a wallet with private keys? Or simply 'holding' BTC on Paypal or some other app where there is possibility to withdraw BTC or not, like in Paypal case and many other apps, you actually can't even withdraw any BTC.

But if we have loose definition of uptake then I think its high percentage.

Minus countries where majority people dont even have online banking, of course. But kids all have apps and Venmo and PP everywhere I almost can guarantee they have $10 in BTC too.

Hi,
Yeah, it could be.  I'm thinking of all forms, but $10 is de minimus.  When you get someone with $100k in their PPS (in the UK), IRA (in the US) etc, and put 4% into it, then I think it moves the needle.  Not to mention professional managers.  Not to mention the rest of the world.  Certainly in some   I guess time will tell.  :-)

To me it seems like there are a lot of room if these stats are true:

India: Has the most Bitcoin users globally, with 75 million users, notes PlasBit
China: Has 38 million Bitcoin users, notes PlasBit
United States: Has 28 million Bitcoin users, notes PlasBit
Brazil: Has 25 million Bitcoin users
Indonesia: Has 23.5 million Bitcoin users

Indonesia: Has 23.5 million Bitcoin users

Again I think this is more. This is almost 10% of population but I know almost so many Indonesians I know, many 'hold' BTC but in some dumb game or app, or even in a casino.

Like I said, depends on what uptake is defined. Easy to count wallet and exchange accounts but if you surf in some casinos like Bitvest which I still use, many many asians in there and even many Americans who all their BTC is only there Smiley
