If the goal was to get rid of the "ridiculous" things, they could have done it without gutting the agency. Obviously the goal was to make a big show of fighting "waste" and "woke" and possibly retaliate for the investigation into Starlink shenanigans. A few million people here and there losing access to food or clean water or medication is irrelevant to our billionaire nazi president.

To put this into perspective, USAID budget was < 1% of total US federal budget and arguably best bang for the buck of it all, considering how much a dollar can buy in poor countries. That's not to say there isn't waste or corruption or some CIA bullshit involved but normal people don't burn their house to get rid of cockroaches.

I agree. When you consider everything, USAID were doing much more good than harm, that's incomparable. They simply can review things and cut off spendings on stuff that doesn't makes sense rather than closing whole agency. but no, Trump needed this whole PR campaign to satisfy his MAGA voters. The problem with Trump  is he does not understand intermediate measures when  comes to fulfilling his objectives or agenda, USAID was giving some funds to LGBT communities abroad, for example, so immediately there is no good which is enough for Trump to consider to keep USAID up and running, so people have access to food and important anti-retroviral drugs. If he was smart and wanted to continue to give an image of a powerful and caring United States, he would have filtered out those programs which aligned with the political left and allow those which had something to do with medicine and good to keep going. This just makes the country and the Republican party to look selfish and short-sighted in the eye of the rest of the international community .

I don't think in my own opinion that anything is wrong with the decision Trump is taking about suspending the activities of the US AID for the next 90 days to embark on a thorough review on the finances channeled towards the agency for the period of time. I don't think Trump will scrap the agency and for the records, he cannot singlehandedly terminate the agency as a whole with just a presidential executive order condering that what gave birth to the USAID in the 1960s was through the Congress's Foreign Assistance Act that mandated that a government agency be set up and tasked with the responsibility of administering overseas spending. To overhaul such institution, it will require more than Trump's executive order but will also require an act of Congress where the Republicans have a little majorities in both chambers.

USAID needs to be shut down because it is a major source for US money drain. If it isn't stopped, it will destroy the economy. Then it will simply stop on it's own after the US economy has been destroyed completely by it.

It does not delete the fact it was an agency which helped many people around the world by using both corporate and taxpaper money. Depending whom you ask, some of their initiatives were a waste of money and politicized but other ones like providing anti-retroviral medicines to people who suffer from AIDS is a completely different kind of activity, which has nothing to do with right and left politics, but rather with the sense of humanity and helping one another.
I would not be mad if my country spent money in such a way, it is actually better than buying weapons and bullets.

Only time will tell whether there will be private non-profit organizations which will try to continue to provide HIV medicines for those who need it the most, hopefully it will be the case.

Am I the only who thinks that Trump is right in closing down USAID, The money being spent there is outrageous and it doesnt benefit the US people in anyway. And as an African i can say that the countries that are given the money just end up misuing the money.

While this perspective is valid but there are many other factors to consider. While it is true that those aids are been wrongly used by some third world countries' corrupt politicians but now when those aid won't be received those corrupt leaders will put additional taxes in order to meet their and the country's need. They would have a valid excuse that since they are not getting aid from the US, they have all the right to put additional taxes.

From the US point of view, they used to give such aid for Strategic Interests, and the countries receiving it were bound to obey the orders from the US but now since they won't give any aid, the countries wouldn't be obliged to keep the US interest intact.
