Was reading the help section and got excited to find something that is no longer applicable in bitcointalk which makes the probability of collecting recognition(merit) from notoriously hard-to-get-noticed-by members, there must be a better term but my excitement kinda overwhelms the idea of searching for better terminology.

You can see the note at
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=help;page=post#bbcref

It's "Not valid XHTML, but can also be used for images!"

https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Basic_bulletin_board_codes

I test with an image but it does not work. Not sure.
move

move

My guess comes to it was disabled by admin.
https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=585743.0
Quote
Move is deprecated - it is a legacy code which is turned OFF by default in 2.1.x

Turn it on at index.php?action=admin;area=featuresettings;sa=bbc#disabledBBC
But it may stop working entirely,  eventually

I don't know where you get the idea of marquee tag here, but it was never available since the very start i have joined here (2017) probably it wasnt available in the earlier too as it looks like a very old feature to be used with.

Got it from the HELP > POSTING BBC_BulletinBoardCodes
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=help;page=post#bbcref
Yes, it's part of the bbcode tag for any SMF forum or any bbcode-based forum, but just like I said, it wasn't available or even known to any user here to be used before. Also, all moving images (.gif and .apng) in the forum were disabled, including this one, of course for the same reason (annoying for some or most users)

The reason he mentioned it is "he doesn't see any use for it" is now too old. He disabled it back in 2011, and it's 2025 now. I don't know if signature was a thing back then, but if it was enabled, I am sure campaign managers would use this tag for their signature campaigns. As some of us are familiar with the other forum, we see that campaign managers actually use this BBCode in most signatures and it's not bad to be honest. It's been 13 long years and since people did not feel the need of that bbcode, let it remain like how it is now.

I had to look up what it's about:
The <marquee> HTML element is used to insert a scrolling area of text.

if it was enabled, I am sure campaign managers would use this tag for their signature campaigns.
Let's not do that! Theymos disabled animated avatars for exactly the same reason: blinking things drawing your attention is very annoying. Every time I use a new browser without adblocker, I'm reminded of how terrible websites are with everything blinking and moving. I don't want that in a book, and I don't want it on my screen.

Just like some other members here have mentioned, Theymos actually disabled it. I think back then animated avatars too were still in use and basically even newbies were able to upload an avatar back then but it made the forum messy. One basic thing I like about the forum is how simple it's interface is .

If everything is animated, the concept may seem fun at first however given the fact that this forum is a place for important and serious discussions, a flashy interface won't look cool.

Yeah, I somehow know why theymos disabled the animated avatar. I agree that animated avatars actually behaves like LED billboard on the street. Some animated avatars still remain and not all of them are active anymore. However, that move tag actually does not blink, and does not change color in front of your eyes to catch your attention. I have been using the other forum for a year now and I don't feel too bad seeing those signatures.

FYI, I am not supporting to enable it back. I wrote this in my previous post.

It's been 13 long years and since people did not feel the need of that bbcode, let it remain like how it is now.

I am not surprised that theymos disabled it because the head admin is like an old-school man, and he is uncomfortable with animated things. LoyceV pointed that the head admin disabled animated avatars because he felt it is annoying experience.

Here is his announcement.
OK, APNGs are now detected. Old ones are grandfathered for now, in part because people have ongoing campaigns, but in the future I might (or might not) go through and remove them.

It is time to add this change into Bitcointalk's important historic changes.

That's a next level trolling when we can really see the announcement made by theymos that he will stop pursuing epochtalk since the developments are going nowhere and it will be only a waste of time it theymos will continue to spend more money to it. I would do the same if it were me even if I am not am expert about websites or how to create it and removed bugs. Tongue

You can see an example in my thread:
Bitcointalk's Important Historic Changes.

In the **Table of Contents**, clicking on "Forum Name" will take you to:
`https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5186820.0#post_forumname`,
which is an anchor linking to a specific section.

### Example Usage

How to do this?

Code:
[anchor=index]Table of Contents[/anchor]

[list]
[li][iurl=#point1]Point 1[/iurl][/li]
[li][iurl=#point2]Point 2[/iurl][/li]
[/list]

[anchor=point1][b]Point 1[/b][/anchor]
[iurl=#index]Back to the Table of Contents[/iurl]
xxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxx

[anchor=point2][b]Point 2[/b][/anchor]
[iurl=#index]Back to the Table of Contents[/iurl]
xxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxx

### Trying It Out

Here’s an example of using `iurl`:

This iURL link takes you to the top. It can work similarly to a iURL without anchorhyperlink but should be used together with an `anchor`.

I also added an anchor inside your post, which I quoted here.

(No intention to mess up your neatly structured post—just testing it out! And used chatGPT to kind-of organize )

Thanks a lot! Hihihi
I think I can use this like when giving credit, when u use someone else's work as part of your post.

edit :

When previewed the anchor i put inside your post(which was a bit altered by chatgpt) #howto

edit2
Ahh got it it wont change coz i cant scroll anyfurther.  But when I zoomed in, it worked. Hahha

Thank you all.
Was just checking to see why would it be in the help post if its no longer relevant. Also I may have found something that isnt listed there that is still working.
It's because some of the information on the forum aren't updated and also I don't think it will much changes if it's updated so I think that is the reason why it is still in the help section plus it can be use when it was not disabled by theymos so updating it won't do much anyway. I think it is also because theymos is very busy with other things in the forum plus the things theymos in real life just like the rest of us.

Maybe you knew but forget this thread Hidden pages/ features on the forum in which you can find many "hidden" pages/ features of this forum.

I said you forgot it, because you already merited it.  Wink
