I've come across plenty of gambling discussions, and even when the topic is strictly about strategies, there are always people chiming in that gambling should be just for fun.
That got me thinking, how do you personally define "gambling for fun"?
For me, as someone looking to improve and eventually turn a profit, I don’t really see gambling as just entertainment. If I did, I probably wouldn’t take it seriously, and I'd just keep losing without much thought.
The real excitement for me comes from the challenge, not just the thrill. Even when I lose, it pushes me to improve rather than simply shrugging it off as part of the fun, that’s why I don’t fully agree with the idea of gambling being just for fun, it means more to me than that.
There are VERY FEW people on this planet capable of being professional gamblers. There was a guy on Jeopardy who has one of the longest winning streaks ever, like top 3 of 5 or something like that. He was from Chicago if memory serves me and naturally I wanted to follow along and root for him, but I'm pretty sure him and Alex (RIP to a GOAT) discussed gambling on the show where he goes in to good detail about how even for a highly skilled pro gambler, he loses his ass all the time. He said you have to be able to take massive losses and just suck it up. So for me unless I'm on that level, which of course I am not..it's all for fun. If I'm ini a poker tournament am I playing my ass off trying to win it? Hell yes, but it's still just for fun at the end of the day.

For a lot of people gambling is just way to have fun and get excited and they are happy with that no matter if they win or lose. But for people like you who think carefully about how to gamble it is clear that it is not just about having fun. Challenge of trying to win thinking carefully about what to do and trying to get better are all important parts of experience. You think about gambling is more like competition where you are trying to beat odds and come out on top. So saying that gambling is just for fun does not really capture all reasons why you do it. It is great to see someone who thinks deeply about gambling and does not just do it without thinking.

For people who want to seek profit in gambling, gambling is no longer for fun, I conclude this is like other entertainment such as watching movies. The similarity is that we have to spend money to be able to enjoy the flow and get the sensation, it's just that in gambling there are benefits that can be obtained if you are lucky, unfortunately many people force themselves to want to be lucky but instead of wanting to be lucky it makes them addicted because they are chasing victory. With people who gamble for fun, it doesn't mean they don't have a desire to win, I'm sure in their hearts there is also a desire to win, it's just that they can control themselves well, unlike those who can't control themselves and their mindset.

In my opinion, someone gambling for fun understands and accepts that they are likely to lose the money they wager. The money spent is viewed as the price of admission for the entertainment experience, not an investment or a serious attempt to get rich. Losses are seen as part of the game, not a catastrophic event.

Man I love poker haha, never been in a poker tournament though but if that was the case I feel like I should go to a Poker University or something. Wait, that sounds funny hahha. I would become a student of poker. I would take it back to the very beginning of when poker was invented and learn every aspect of its history, strategies, I would live and breathe the game if I was to be a professional. I would also need to be about 10 years younger with no financial responsibilities or family or work obligations to fulfill, ehhh safe to say that being a professional poker player was never in the cards for me, pun intended!

It is the same as we should have deposited money that we were previously prepared to lose, the money deposited in gambling is better considered lost and do not expect more if the money deposited will produce greater profits, therefore the goal is better to seek pleasure as you said the money is money that you want to enjoy with whatever the results. Accepting the fact that gambling will only make us lose money is responsible behavior. It is true what you said the city must be able to control itself not to get carried away by the atmosphere by chasing in any direction, with this big losses will not occur because the occurrence of big losses is partly caused by the occurrence of oneself being carried away by the atmosphere until there is a behavior of wanting to get the victory that is pursued without thinking about the side of the loss.
In these things, gambling will become only fun if you are having a good run of profit gains but if not it's not fun anymore if you experience continuously losing. Others seeing gambling as a form of possible income or large huge gains but only a small portion of people experience this unless you are a lucky guy makes win every day. Being a gambler you must need to become responsible with yourself, the capital and the amount you will wage or else you will ended up to become wasted and throw out all of their money in just a single day. Always be conscious if you are still okay in playing gambling or you are just chasing the money you lost. One of the pleasures of gambling is indeed from the benefits that we can get, it's just that we have to realize that winning in gambling is something that is difficult to get because it depends on luck which certainly will not happen according to what we want when it should happen. Gambling will be annoying if you keep losing, but that is a natural thing and there is no way to eliminate defeat in gambling, therefore the mindset and view of gambling is better to prioritize it is to have fun with the sensation obtained even though it is a defeat. I agree with what you said, we must be responsible for ourselves with everything we do, yes gambling is one of them, with the funds allocated and our own behavior too.

What I could personally contribute as gambling for fun is that behaviour in gambling that's devoid of any form of negative appearances when experiencing a loss or streaks of losses as a person gambles. Whatever outcome that surfaces he accepts without attaching emotions that could ruin or deny him a healthy gambling lifestyle. It could be hard to actually experience losing money but it would be simple to deal with and continue with some bit of fun if we all be gambling with such as amount we can afford losing anyday, anytime.

I usually say that I play for research purposes. This means that I have not yet created a sufficiently perfect gaming system for myself that would allow me to make a profit in the long term. Of course, some elements of entertainment can be found in sports betting, but I can assume that most are still being disingenuous. What kind of entertainment is it when you generally lose money and your only rational strategy is to simply limit your losses? There is no entertainment in losing money. You must have progress towards making a profit, learning something. Otherwise, it is a bit of gambling addiction.

Well in my own view I think gambling for fun is when you're gambling just in other to get excited or just to get relief from stress or Borden you can also win if luck is on your side. However if you're gambling for fun and entertainment definitely you won't panick whenever time you experience lose in gamble, those who gamble for fun and entertainment are always satisfied with the outcome they get.

Well said and this is the best definition of gambling for fun i have come across in this thread because if we have the mindset that we are gambling for fun, the first thing that comes to the mind is probable losses so that even when we win along the line we can considered it more fun since a reward have been attached on our way to having fun. Gambling is not something we engage in with the belief to make profits or ends meet from it so that it will give anyone that wants to develop interest not to see it as source of income and to have a sense of belonging not to spend much money on gambling since profits is not promised.

I believe there are still people that gamble for fun. Some people don't even remember if there's anything like gambling again or if they should stack a game in their life on their own.
The question now is when do they gamble? They gamble only when they are in the midst of people that gamble, or someone in their group is talking so much about a particular sure odd, and then they become moved to just risk small money not to be left out.
In their belief, for the particular game they have just played, it is either in or not, but they don't really care.
All belief is anything that comes in because there's not much to lose. They are just having fun with their mate, nothing more than that. And when they win, they just celebrate it and even spend it anyhow, believing it just comes out with ease.
This person just gambles for fun.

I consider gambling as a kind of training. By nature, I am a very cautious and conservative person. I do not like to take risks, but I realize that risk is a necessary condition for success in business and personal life.
Therefore, I use gambling as training. For me, a casino is a kind of training ground where I can try to implement various strategies associated with risk. In addition, I can better study the mathematical theory of probability, which is also very necessary in our real life.
The fact is that in the process of biological evolution, man has not learned to correctly determine the probabilities of certain events. This needs to be specifically learned, and this is exactly why I use gambling.
Therefore, it is not entirely correct to say that I gamble purely for fun. My main goal is self-development and self-improvement.

I have seen a gambler who does not gamble regularly but when he goes out somewhere far away or holyday celebrate, I have seen him deposit. He deposits some money in gambling with the intention of losing some money at that time. He knows that he will lose but if he wins, it will be pleasant for him. If gambling is accepted as fun, gambling can never be a cause of harm for those who can do such behavior. If a gambler ever gambles for winning or for the sake of making money, then it is not fun, but his chances of losing increase greatly.

Gambling for fun for me is when you come to play but only make entertainment and fun as the main priority and do not include winning, but that does not mean you have to refuse winning, be realistic that we all always like money but the point is you have to be able to distinguish between what activities are worthy and not worthy to be used as a place to earn income.
The reason is clear because in any case gambling has a risky side and there is also no guarantee or certainty that we will win or lose at the end of the game and that is the reason why a gambler must have good responsibility in himself to minimize the occurrence of excessive emotions when it turns out that at the end of the game you lose, and this is also the reason why limits must be applied which is beneficial to minimize the possibility of losing money in excessive amounts.

Perfect words! After it i understand that i`m just an amateur. I compared it with my football playing and understood that it is the same - i don`t plan to get profit from it but i spend all my reserves to win. After one injury i didn`t played for few months and when i returned home after first game wife asked is i`m drunk. But i was just so tired and happy the same time. I can`t agree with such definition, of "gambling for fun" for me, but it is another point of view that is true for you and someone else. PS. It makes me to watch from another way on my gambling

Perhaps you can apply your opinion on certain kinds of gambling games, especially with sports betting that requires analyzing everything about the game, stats, past performances, injuries and conditions. However, I believe in the other side of gambling games that are mainly based on your luck, alghorithms and machines, honestly I cannot find any specific strategy or way of gambling to beat that casino or dealer. More importantly, gamblers should focus on momey management to reduce the risk of going through significant losses. The difference between having fun whith a chance of knowing that you may win big is what gambling based on. Otherwise, putting efforts to beat unbeatable machines is just a mistake many addicts falling in such traps.

In my own definition gambling for fun can simply be refer to as gambling with that very amount of money which you will gamble and already accepted that fact that you can loss that amount of money and your are comfortable with it without having any impact in other living expenses, your are not depressed and carried away by anxiety, if you gambling with the stability of your emotions especially when loses, I can proudly say such person is gambling for fun because it has proven you are in charge and in control of the game not the game controlling you.

Yes, that is the definition of responsible gambling where a gambler is able to accept whatever the results are at the end of the game, especially defeat, simply when they win they feel happy and when they lose it does not affect their mental and psychological, on the other hand what you describe is true that responsible gambling and also for fun is when a gambler considers that the money they spend is a tool that they will exchange for entertainment and pleasure, meaning from that alone we can conclude that they are ready to lose because what they are looking for is pleasure and not chasing victory and also because they know that gambling is not a place to get rich, another thing I just hope that all gamblers can have that mentality and mindset.

I do not like to lose money but I gamble for fun because if I lose the money, I am not sad and it does not affect me financially in any way. It does not affect my happiness and my mood. This sounds like a paradox, frankly. You don't like to lose money but you gamble for fun, how is that fun, then? Yes, I know you've repeatedly said you only do a negligible percentage of your earnings on bets whenever you feel like it. You believe losing such minor percentage makes it fun since it doesn't amount to much? Even though you've clearly said you didn't like losing? I guess we need to clearly dissect what fun is, actually, for the essence of this discussion so we're on the same page. This isn't specifically for you alone but for other members who say they gamble for the fun of it and not for the expected monetary reward. This is really a paradox. The average player loses at least half of the games and his deposit melts away over time. At the same time, he naturally doesn’t like to lose. And he plays for fun, lol. I can partly understand this in free card games, for example, solitaire. But there is no classic loss, there are only repeated unsuccessful attempts. There are difficult layouts in solitaire, when you can try to collect solitaire many times, even several dozen times, but in the end you fail. This is unpleasant, but still it is not a classic loss. You only lose time, but in case of victory you really get great positive emotions. In the case of casino games, I do not see this.

Only a lazy man that wants to reap from where he didn't sow, that will happily embrace gambling as a means of income, because he sees it as a short cut to riches. Such person will wallow in their poverty because gambling will take the little that he has from him. Get a job or learn a skill so that you can have a means of income.
Anyone who wants to take a shortcut to poverty by gambling, to me, is an act of total irresponsibility and at the same time I would see them as an ignorant person who does not know much about what causes the long-term effect of gambling. If the person knows that those who play long-term their probability of losing increases, then they would not do it, they forget about the house edge and believe that they have many opportunities to win and become rich or see it as an income, that is very wrong, however, everyone decides how to spend their own money, but they can very well receive the advice not to see it that way so that they do not lose their money.
