Acceptable uses of AI in the forum (unofficial)

I just realized I could probably automate a forum bot that reads the  5-10 topics in  a day, asks gpt’s opinion regarding the OP’s post and post some stuff under the topics it read before and it can do that in random time frames just like a human.

Here is the preset:

1- Read 10 random recent topics in bitcoin discussion, meta, reputation etc (preferred boards)
2- Skip the topic if it has >x replies or older than a month, skip if the OP’s acc name is x,y,z etc
3- ask gpt to prepare posts regarding what OP wants to know in the threads you have read earlier
4- store the posts and post them between these hours randomly

Just like that The forum would become a very lively place

You know the bot could even create its own topics too if we ran out of ideas to talk about xd

Theymos should think about it in case we run out of posters some day lel

I think some people might do that and nobody will notice what they are doing because online AI detection tools check the text/grammar, not the ideas in the text.

But most importantly, does it break the forum rules?

If you say “yes”, then I’ll have to ask how is that different than reading an online magazine or talking to an expert to educate yourself? Because when you interact with someone who is smarter than you, automatically some of his wisdom/data/knowledge (whatever you call it) will be written on your thoughts/brain/hard disk… that’s exactly how we educate ourselves.

You're right, that doesn't break any forum rules because it can't be considered plagiarism because you can't call someone a plagiarizer if they have similar knowledge to you about something specific. For example, the definition of the word 'blockchain' can't be different in the actual sense, but different people can describe it in different ways, and none of them can be considered plagiarizers because it's generally the same thing they are describing, but only with their own words and sentences.

Reading some information about something over the internet or reading it from an AI is basically the same thing. If someone posts something asking a question, you do some research about the subject using Google, and come up with a response combining all the knowledge that you have gathered from there, you aren't doing something wrong because you have used some resources and gathered some knowledge from there. If you are providing quotes from what you have checked, mentioning the source becomes important, but if you have understood the thing yourself and are now answering it from the knowledge you have gathered, you don't need to mention anything, and the same thing applies to AI as well.

Stealing ideas and calling them your own is a different thing, and I'm not talking about that here. What I'm talking about is knowledge about specific thing that you gather through a resource that you give out to someone else. If any of us write articles, they would know that when you do research, you basically gather information and study the subject and everything about it that you need to write about, but you don't specifically provide the source of every word or knowledge you have used in your article apart from a few specific points which you have taken from somewhere like a link to an article containing that specific information such as a date, etc.

As long as it is not simple word spinning, yes. In fact searching in search engines like google is being replaced by searching in AI, which the logical thing to do would be to acknowledge that you have consulted the AI or something similar.

Me, the possibility of bitcointalk being plagued by AI agents interacting with each other I see far, but not impossible. Something similar happened with poker.

Well, you barely see someone who doesn't use AI for coding these days; personally, I've grown to the point where I let AI handle 80% of my data cleaning with Python/ SQL codes for me in order to reduce my working time, I've said this before. Whether we like it or not, AI is here to stay, and it's just growing better. Most of our keyboards are now AI-powered, which improves our sentences and makes life easier.

My thoughts on AI on the forum: It should be viewed as plagiarism; if you must generate a topic with AI, you must also provide the AI source, but don't quote human replies with chatbot texts; they stink, especially on the gambling board.

AI is good but the usage is the problem - not everyone knows how to use this beautiful technology.

Using AI is understandable in such cases; I'm also using it in my master's thesis, as it's way more efficient in finding the perfect references (it found exactly what I was looking for when I spent hours in Google Scholar and Science Direct). It's great in the translation of complex words, especially in my case, as it involves medical terms, while it's also great in finding alternative words or phrases to reduce plagiarism. Whether we like it or not, it's capable of reducing our working time by far. Whether we like it or not, AI is capable of saving us a lot of time.

However, this is a public forum, with real people behind each username. Our goal here is to discuss topics regarding various subjects and voice our opinions. If we wanted to talk with a bot, or ChatGPT, we'd do that, but is that what we want? Certainly not, which is why AI shouldn't be used to generate replies in the discussion board.

In conclusion, AI is a great tool that's here to stay; it can save up a lot of time on trivial projects, but it's not made to replace us. Using it in the forum is a plague and should be a bannable offense for repeated offenders.

AI was created to agument human capabilities to some extent and not to totally replaced us but things are changing and AI already taking over our jobs. I'm not fully in support of AI being used on the forum but to some extent it can be useful if used correctly ( the OP is mix of AI and human) and it looks great cause it's been used correctly.

Another challenge is our AI detector tools may eventually become useless, as most of our devices are now AI-powered. The main issue now is that the AI detection tools now identify some posts typed using one of these AI powered phone keyboards (Gboard, SwiftKey, Fleksy, Gramarly, Microsoft Keyboard, Samsung Keyboard) as AI generated posts. We do not want a situation in which a genuine poster is banned/tagged for using one of those keyboards to post here.

I see in some Telegram groups that dozens of "patches," if you can call them that, are already being created and created, which humanizes AI texts and saves them from detection. Our tools are already becoming practically useless since some words and phrases are added to AI texts, which dilute dry texts. What should be the way out of this situation? I don't see anything better than leaving everything as is. Found posts are deleted, and spammers are punished. If posts are not detectable, you will have to live with it.

I wouldn't call it "way out" but it is clear to me that we have to adapt to the new situation, there is no other way. Staying inside the cave while the world changes is not a solution. In the meantime, we can continue tagging those who simply copy and paste AI generated text without quoting of course.

Seems quite simple to me, if you didn't create it yourself you should attribute it correctly.

However, just like any other rule or guideline (official/unofficial/common sense/etc) on this forum, it only works for people who actually want this to be a forum and not a shitposting cesspool.

I couldn't possibly know. But I do know that if I wanted to chat with a bot (or drink non-alcoholic beer, or fuck an inflatable doll, etc) I would just go ahead and do that. I can't really imagine a possible scenario where I would appreciate someone trying to pass it to me as if it was the real thing.

My position is quite clear, as of now, allowing AI posts will do more harm than good. There has to be a hard rule like your post cannot contain more than 10-20% AI content (that too must be acknowledged). It should be treated like plagiarism because it is.
There should not be any compromise with the development of an individual's comprehension skills which is the core of analytical abilities and without it any usage of AI is not authentic. Again, before you accuse me of advocating for Stone Age, let me be very clear, I am not against AI in general but since we do not have enough mechanisms in place, as of now, it is good to be cautious.

Of course, I hardly use search engines like google anymore. I had to do my part, though, as it first gave me some sources that I did not consider of quality, like wikipedia, and I refined the search a couple of times, apart from selecting from what it gave me. As the articles are already linked, I considered it totally unnecessary to put that I had found them using chatGPT in the same way that nobody puts in a link: “searched with google.com”.

It is an amazing suggestion, though. There is one thing I learnt recently after AI evolved in the society. The presence of AI has resulted to laziness and indiscipline among the humans, and it is common among students, i remembered lots of my course mates where stepped down during our seminar presentation and in project work, because our coordinator who is very knowledgeable and knows all this tricks found out that their works was done using AI, that was not the case, they were too lazy to even paraphrase the works out of negligence, some where caught with 80% to 90% plagiarism.

The production of AI has been helpful to the general public to an extend, but it also has a disadvantages in the life of the younger generation, as they are becoming lazy with brainworks. It is resulting to a high level of copypasta.
