Random vs Lucky numbers

I'm opening this thread because I am curious about what the general trend is among the forum members regarding this topic: if you have to choose, do you prefer to pick some random numbers, even using a random number generator, or you prefer to select your "lucky" ones?

I'm not superstitious most of the times, and I frequently select the automatic filling option with random numbers so as not to waste time, instead of selecting them by hand. In the end, the chances are always the same no matter the numbers you choose. But I'm asking this question because there are times when I prefer to follow my inspiration and select "special" numbers, or avoid "ugly" ones.

It's funny, we all know "random number generators", but I've done a search and there are also "lucky number generators" based on numerology   

So the question is: you don't care about the numbers and fill them automatically, as they all have the same chances to win, or you tend to pick your preferred ones (birthdays, favourite numbers,...) manually?

I think I prefer to be curious about the numbers that suddenly appear, actually we are not inspiring about the date of birth or favorite numbers in our lives but we are looking for answers to whether it will be a lucky number or not and we try it to be at the far far? Doing this because the doubling includes the case of random generators that occasionally use it, I do not believe the superstition even though I have tried the numbers that I got in my dream. LOL

Here in my country people do not have the option to play with their preferred numbers when comes to lotteries, we only have the option to buy pre-printed tickets and choose whatever we want.
It would seem to be that having the option to play with preferred numbers is something which is mostly common from countries within the European Union and the United States, in Latin America we don't have such privilege.
Even if we had it, I believe I would rather to go with random numbers instead of preferred number of those who evoke superstition.

Each country seems to have its own differences and characteristics in lottery bet, in the country I live there are types of lottery with the Asian market and everyone can place or bet on numbers as they wish without any numbers that have been made and just pay the coupon.
Most of the people in my country just determine the numbers based on mathematical calculations and also some of them believe in superstition and even believe in certain numbers that are bet every time until they really come out and give winning.

Superstition is also strong here in my country. I have been told of people who are numbers in their dreams and when they wake up, they write them down, so they can buy the lottery ticket the see with those numbers which they pictured in their dreams. If you are from Asia, then it is not surprising there is also a lot of superstition and customs regarding good luck and bad luck, after all people from Asia represent and important percentage of gambling volume from all around the world and it has created some stereotype about Asian and gambling, as if all asian were into gambling, when in reality that is not true. 

If it was possible to choose numbers in the most popular lotteries here in my country, I think I would rather to choose my own preferred numbers instead of going for random ones, just in case I happen to see something in my dreams

Anyway, I haven't used a number selector for anything just like I haven't ever used a password or username generator once too. I like to do my stuff manually and that has to a great extent kept me safe in the online space. Whenever, I've to choose a single number I always go with number 7 as that is the number of characters of my name but if it's more than a number I just choose whatever that comes to mind with 7 in the mix. So far, even the 7 I've been choosing hasn't brought me any luck 🙈

Well, the truth is - one can only say those are lucky numbers once they won something from those numbers. So yeah, for me, they are all the same. Random or lucky numbers. Because if you haven't won yet from those numbers, how can you say those are lucky, right?
So don't think too much about your lucky numbers because there's no such thing. You may have won in several bets using those numbers but more than likely, it was just coincidence. And now, just because you believe you have such luck in those numbers, you will surely use it whenever you want to bet on something. Guess - you won't just hit the jackpot using those "lucky" numbers.

TBH, as for the availability of the numbers, it's easy to pick numbers you usually use, preferred, familiar, or whatever you called it, just like birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Thus, it's more difficult to choose if these numbers were already picked by others and you need to choose from the remaining, if random is okay, then it might be my last option always. Actually this is what I'm doing in the Games & Rounds' contest or giveways.

I heard not long ago that when people are asked to choose a number between 0 and 9, number 7 is the most frequently chosen by far, which makes total sense with what you just said (37 ends in 7, the "lucky number" in many cultures).

This can be also linked to what Smartprofit said before, and add not only that "the superstitions of other people can contribute to your winnings" but also their unconscious.

Good to take into account when choosing your numbers and minimize the chances of having to share the prize among multiple winners in games that work like this.

There's no way that we can be able to tell about lucky numbers, they would really be that become lucky at the time or moment that you do be able to hit up those jackpots but if not then you will definitely saying that you are indeed unlucky. You would be keeping on searching for those numbers on which there are ones will really be that mindful and keeping out on making those random numbers nor be that trying out to snip those special numbers on which it will really be basing up on different dates that it is really that having some specific meaning.

Dealing up with lotteries doesnt really give out that kind of assurance and you would really be needing all luck in the world for you to be able to have that kind of jackpot hit.
There's no way to tell whether these numbers are really having some influence or not. The thing here is that you do really know on what you are really that dealing on.

Picking randomly seems to give you more chances because the numbers that come up won't always be your favourite numbers,
but of course, this will be adjusted to the research and the type of information you get as you say.

But if you are only fixated on your favourite numbers, the chances of winning may be smaller,
Random number selection with information that gives you an edge may give you a bigger chance.

I think this is pure tactics and I'll say you go for what works best for you, because your lucky numbers are always a win and the random numbers too can actually be a win.soin this context I always prefer to go for random numbers usually it falls on my favourite numbers and I mix it up with some other numbers and guess what it's give me results,so have been following up this pattern in most cases and also I don't think I have lucky numbers but definitely my win can always fall in different category of numbers that have picked randomly.this is why I always go for random numbers than the lucky numbers.

It depends on each player and their individual needs and what they believe in. If they believe in the power of their numbers, then let them choose them constantly, this is exactly the process in which the player thinks that something significant depends on them, although I am almost sure that absolutely nothing depends on this action. Because luck can fall out at any time, regardless of whether we only put our favorite numbers or use a random number generator. Personally, I stopped believing in personal lucky numbers and prefer not to waste time choosing them, but just use a random generator, and I even started to like it)

Yes, its mainly about luck so it is not wrong to follow the pattern or sign that he get. Sometime if that sign is right, we can win but if the sign is not right, we will difficult to win. So we must be careful when we follow the sign or pattern because we don't know if that is right or wrong so we need to make sure by analyze deeper.

Yes, its mainly about luck so it is not wrong to follow the pattern or sign that he get. Sometime if that sign is right, we can win but if the sign is not right, we will difficult to win. If we talk about luck, then most likely we would choose the numbers that has some meaning to us, just like what others say like birthdays. And we for sure will have the mindset that it's going to be lucky for us as it has some connection to our lives.

This is just me but I would not choose random numbers in a lottery. I have done it before and I will say that I even don't hit any numbers not just one. He didn't mentioned any games on his first post but I think yeah they are counted and they are among those popular games that requires number picking.

If you are talking about keno, it doesn't matter what numbers you pick. The numbers and the keno board are just animations for show, the result is going to be the same no matter what numbers you chose.

Really? All the time, I thought they are random but maybe they are truly random. It is just that maybe the results are already generated even before the numbers appear in our screen, just like before the balls drop at the bottom of a Plinko board.

As far as the lottery goes, I like to use birthdays of family members if I decide to play something like powerball or whatever. Your odds are terrible no matter what numbers you choose but somebody has to win.

This is also called as lucky number or lucky pick, if I'm not mistaken. A lot of people are doing this, including me. Even though the game is random as we know it, we still think that it makes more sense playing the game this way. I think the only way to pump the odds is by buying more tickets.

If the lotto is well designed, patterns shouldn't give any valuable information as they would be mere coincidences. Even the most unlikely can happen, like the same winning numbers coming out twice -we've discussed about these events before in a few different threads, as improbable is not the same as impossible.

I agree that, in the past, one could detect flaws in the design of some games by keeping an eye out for patterns, but I don't think this is the case anymore.

There's no such proof about those winners whether they are making use of a random number or really just that sticking into their so called special numbers on which i do believe that most of who do deal up with lotteries did really comes into a point on having this kind of approach because they are really indeed believing that lucky numbers could really be able to influence out their odds of winning or hitting up the jackpot, but we do all know that there's no proof into this one but rather it is really just that adding up that kind of positivity towards this thing.

For me then i would really be that just picking up some random numbers yet the odds on winning up  a lottery is really that indeed small or close to impossible. Even if you do make that kind of maintaining your lucky numbers and betting for the rest of your life then you will be still that not able to assure that you can be able to hit up.

While I don't believe in superstition or anything like lucky numbers, if that is what someone wants to pick then it's just as good. What I did find curious when looking into things like the lottery, is how much of a disparity certain numbers will have in the amount of times they are draw over years. While you might expect them all to be fairly close to an average number, there are actually quite large differences where some balls might be picked 30 times out of a thousand (for example) and others might be 75 times out of a thousand. It made me wonder if there is something else at play here, like the slight extra weight or aerodynamics of lottery balls which might effect how frequently they get selected.
