Balancing our Personal Believes, Religion and Gambling

In this case, I think all religions have clear and same rules related to the prohibition of gambling carried out by their people wherever they are and under any conditions, because indeed gambling only causes a losses and also badness for those who do it, if you look at my religion, Islam prohibits no matter how small the gambling money obtained and even the money from gambling is no worse than unclean,  So even if the money is donated to the construction of the mosque it will not be legal or clean the money from the dirty source to get it, I think it also applies to the church and if the pastor receives the money from gambling although he curses the gambler, of course it may depend on the pastor personally and I am sure if the money will not cleanse the gambler of sin.

Just a short story I will like to tell before the main discussion, I was opportuned to listen on a telephone conversation between a man and a Clergy, what he ask was that if it is right for someone to gamble and won a jackpot, then bring a percentage of the winning to the Clergy, will he accept such as a sacrifice for the growth and developments of the religion? Knowing that the money was gotten from gambling fortune, the Clergy accepted the money but condem gambling.

In the religious society gambling is highly kicked against, infact it is against the doctrine and teachings of most religious people, so if money is won from gambling then it should not be given to such person hense it is against his faith and believe. If such person collect such money then it is a sin because it is against his doctrine perhaps he took it out of greediness.

Different religions on which i do see that it do share up on the same impressions about gambling on which this is really that indeed negative thing but actually not all people will really be that following on what scriptures would really be saying and they would really be that doing into the things on which they do really want and wont really be minding much about it and would really be going or doing into the things that they do really want to do. Actually there's no bad to gamble as long you do make yourself that responsible because at the time or moment that you do become that being greedy on which we know that greed is one of the mortal sins then this is where it considered to be a sin. If you are a religious person whose really that following on whatever written on there then you would be that stopping.

It will really be that up to you on whether you do proceed or not, we do have our own will on what are the things that we do really want to do and its impossible that you cant be able to determine whether its a bad or good thing for you. If you are just that wanting for some leisure and entertainment then that good but on the moment that you have already surpassed into your limits and already compromising out priorities and other important things then this is where shit things happen.

I strongly believe that clergy men should not gamble. They are seen as custodian of faith. And some of these religions that they are the custodians strongly condemn the act of gambling so they shouldn't gamble. Many of their followers are looking up to them, and majority of them will be discouraged if they see their religious leader gambling in a gambling hall. And it is clearly spelt out in their religion book that they shouldn't gamble. And their followers have access to these books and they are seeing where their prophet said don't gamble.

Therefore clergy men engaging in gambling will be seen as disobedient or blasphemy and it will make their followers lose fate in them. Their followers will not listen to whatever the leader will say anymore, because they will see the person as disobedient to their god. Gambling is not bad, but for the fact that they are occupying that position that condem gambling they shouldn't gamble. Many people will lose fate in their religion if they see their leaders gambling.

This made me think that there are different perspectives, whether you are in the religious, political, economic, or social aspects of this. For religion, I believe it may not be correct because of the source of money. From the political part of perspective, there’s nothing much else, but it is an opportunity for them, and it could benefit both sides. On the economic side, it is definitely a positive because an increase in money could help with that donation.

The ethical dilemma for this is somewhat complicated and depends on your perspective. It is a very complex issue, but as long as I believe the person is willing to accept and give, it is okay.

In fact, they are invested with sacred light and are favorite and they must tell you what to do. Unfortunately i am quite contrary and i think religion is just a way to be able to control the masses.

I believe in our minds, it is already very possible for us all to discern what is evil from what is good, this is how God has made humans and sincerely, even those who are idolaters know what is good from that which is bad, like for example, one can not tell me that stealing is the same as gambling, I personally have never seen gambling as a bad thing, and this does not matter whether or not my religion condemns it, my convictions remains that, if indeed, I am free to spend my hard earned money on anything that pleases me and does not affect the happiness of my neighbor, then gambling is not something bad to do if I decide it's what I want.

Same way we spend money on games that we end up nothing getting anything from, isn't it better to spend that same money on gambling where one (atleast) have a chance of getting something back if he or she is lucky, the only thing I've always preached against, and will always preach against is that no one should treat gambling as a means of livelihood, this I've said before I think, people should only gamble for the right reasons and not treat it like it's a job or business by totally depending on it for income.

Secondly, some of us have been arguing on this before time, but I want us to go wide on this discussion using different approaches over it, which may includes the religious, political, economical and social believes to why Clergy men should gamble or not, lets sight examples where necessary, prove our point and learn from each other's opinion.

Clergy men are not supposed to be gambling because gambling is like looking for a short cut to get rich which is against religious teaching in fact I have not heard of any religious that teaches it members to be gambling since gambling looks like you are labour's for self which is against religious teaching and the fact that society has mirrors addicted gamblers as irresponsible people, they have seen many who has gone astray as a result of gambling. Although some people will condemn gambling but they won't condemn the money that is realized from gambling because if you said something is bad why will you accept money from it.

From my understanding, there are religious beliefs that support the idea of gambling and I believe this happened because of the result of addiction and how it has impacted society.
I can't speak for others but I believe everything you're doing that you can't proudly show to others is something that's bad and we shouldn't engage in it. But for the clergy that said gambling is bad but collect the tithe of the money won through gambling, I don't know his reason and there's one thing I know he who first judge will be the one to be judge.

To me, I don't see gambling as a bad thing so it is managed properly.

In a society where gambling is not seen as a bad attitude or easily discriminated it wont matter. It will only matter when anyone gambling is discriminated. Gambling is not devilish its only a means of maling extra money so i dont see anything wrong with. Sometimes i ask my self wat is it that made people hate those who gamble so much? Perhaps itis the reaction of the gambler after losing or winning that is being discriminated not gambling itself.

Some religions frown against gambling a lot and would not have anything to do with money gotten from gambling. Gambling is an act of luck and those religions do not believe in staking money and guessing the result for an outcome, it is highly prohibited as they see it as comparing yourself with the supreme being (God), so they don’t like anyone who believes in their faith to have anything to do with gambling. Some people, just like yourself may see it as a way of making extra money but the risk in it is also one of the things those religions or cultures frown against to make them despise gambling so much. Religion and cultural views on it should be respected and those in it should know better how  to relate with them.

As they say, money doesn't smell. It seems to me that if you put these people in front of a choice most of them will give up their faith in favor of money. I don't want to judge the clergy, but this comes from my own perspective. I will not accept the money I have to be true to what I'm preaching to my congregation; there are other ways to raise funds for religious purposes and not accepting money from something I abhor.
This is just me giving my opinion if I am the clergy, but the clergy on the topic must have his own opinion and defense on the matter.

Gambling is strictly against must religious people because they believe that it's not a moral for very religion.
It is very hard to find religion that truly support gambling activities which is why a religious man need not to focus on gambling.
Gambling is for people that have a neutral taste to religion and not those that are indepted to it.
Gambling is a matter of choice and anyone that believes he can make money from gambling can try it out to see if they are going to make profits from it. As gamblers we need to gamble with risk management to avoid any means of losing too much from online betting.

Perhaps that is why within most of religions there is some emphasis about the relationship one has with money and the relationship one has with faith, you know. That is explicit within Christianity and also in Buddhism, how worldly wealth can negatively affect us on a spiritual way.
Even though those religions and faiths ate quite explicit with comes to wealth and it's management, one needs to point out how there are still rich people who practice those religions, in what it seems to be a contradiction.
Rich people within Christianity, Islam and even Judaism, when their faith rewards modesty and sacrifice.

I have always thought it is interesting how Islam goes against the pursue of easy money, implying there is something evil behind gambling, it being some kind of tool by evil angels to manipulate people...

If you gamble and win big or hit the jackpot, then you are free to use the winnings for any purpose. Because after all, basically some countries prohibit gambling but, the gambling industry in fact still grows in countries that prohibit gambling. Thus, no matter about any prohibition, so when you get money from gambling then you are free to use the money for any purpose including giving it to the priest. After all, the priest himself still receives the money, right. So, it doesn't matter whether they condemn gambling or whatever, because they themselves receive the money with awareness.

If a person brought a donation to the temple, could the priests prevent him? After all, a person made a sacrifice not to them, but to God. Also, there is no prohibition on gambling in Christianity. Therefore, the priests only condemned gambling, but that was their personal opinion. Now, if a person brought bloodstained money to the temple, then of course the priests would not have to accept it from him.

So I don't see anything reprehensible in this situation either from the person who donated the money, or from the priests who accepted this money for the temple of God.

One thing a lot of people need to realize that it's possible to gamble without it Interfering with your religious beliefs or every other aspects of your personal life, allowing it to control you is a choice. Just like drinking alcohol, it doesn't really go against anybody's religion but when it is done excessively it can cause a lot of damage. This is why it's always advised to keep whatever we do balanced. Gambling at the wrong time especially when it disrupts something important you are supposed to do is not right. The lack of discipline and moderation can cause a whole lot of negativities that's capable of interfering with your religious believes.
