A side note. It's still a good sign that he ain't a gambling addict yet. He is afraid to lose money.

To the question. I think we do these crazy things when our instincts are telling us the wrong thing. Maybe he was so affected mentally that is why he made the bad call. Now it begs the question: What if the bet lost? Will he be happy that he only bet a few cents? I bet he will be. Because he told you that he could've accepted it more if the bet lost and regrets will not fill him. I mean, he is regretting it now because it won but no one knows the future so I think he is just saying that to release some anger and frustration.

When he feels Fear, I think it's normal to feel it, but when you can't overcome it as a gambler, that's not normal. The only thing that's not good about what the op did is that instead of being happy about winning even if it's just a small amount, he still got frustrated which is not what it should be.

As gamblers, no matter what happens, we should expect things that are unexpected to happen, but we really expect negative things like this.
This is how we develop as gamblers.
right, there is no risk there is no history in life. people who do not want to develop are people who will live without taking risks. if you want to have a change in your life you have to think from the beginning about a good environment or support with the skills you have, if not, look for something else before it's too late. gambling must use management, especially time for me because time is very important so that it doesn't take up much time from one activity. we have to develop other activities

The concept: "only gamble with money that one can afford to lose" is to prevent people from putting money into gambling, losing it and then being sad because they lost money that they could not afford to lose. The people who get sad when they lose money in gambling are people who are gambling with money that they cannot afford to lose.

This also applies to people who are afraid to gamble. For example, I always place $1 in bets every week. If I lose, it doesn't hurt me. If I win, I celebrate a lot. It's very simple: gambling is to be seen as entertainment.

Gambling is supposed to be fun, right? People who turn it into something else obviously have a problem in their life, which depending on the mentality of each person can turn into a real obsession. Those who don't want to lose money should never bet, but everyone knows that it's not easy to do.

What would I say to that person who is mad at themselves for not putting in more money? Simply put in more next time if that's the only thing that makes the bet interesting.

I don't think this is a situation about making betting more interesting for him, to be honest. He openly admitted he is fearful of losing money, which is a signal he is already on the edge when comes to the amount of money he is supposed to wager in the first place. Instead of increasing the amount of money he risks, it would better for his situation to take a break from betting and then when he comes back to action, start betting small quantities of money, which he would not miss (in the case he losses).
We could perfectly be talking about a person who should neither be betting or gambling in the first place, in my opinion.
If one is afraid of losing money, a casino/bookie is not the right place for one to be.

We should not underestimate the power of greed, though.

Their discomfort is the typical regret of 'I should have played more,' or 'I regret not having made that bet' after knowing the result, and that is a fallacy, feeling regret for a fact that has already transpired and believing that their decision was 100% correct or not. If they had lost, they would be glad not to have bet $15, which results in an irony.

And the simple question is - Should a gambler be afraid of losing money to gambling? Why not simply stay away from gambling then?
There are 2 categories of gamblers that I think are more real,

  • Gamblers who consider gambling as a place to gain profit / impulsive gamblers. : This type of gambler will continue to gamble even though he loses and no matter what happens he continues to chase his losses until he realizes that his money is gone and vents all his emotions.
  • Gamblers who consider gambling as just a place to have fun by trying their luck using small amounts that they can afford to lose. : This type of gambler will never be angry no matter how much he has lost or lost in his bet. Because, he has determined the amount he can afford to lose and always considers defeat as just an unlucky day. And gamblers like this usually only bet when they have free time without thinking about the defeat that has occurred and never thinking about chasing his defeat.

Quote
why is he now angry for winning a small amount of money when it's completely his fault?
Sometimes a small amount will be very valuable for a small gambler who values money. And also sometimes a person's financial condition makes us feel very lost even though the amount is only very small.

Fear of losing money when gambling is normal, unless you are gambling irresponsibly. You can lose money in an unsuccessful business, for example.

I once read a book about psychological biases that says, "we feel the pain of losing something twice as intensely as the pleasure of winning."

You are already certain of losing before you bet, stick with it and winning will be a great surprise.

I was In a group chat on WhatsApp yesterday when a member told us he won his 5 odd bet was very angry still, he said it didn't feel like a winning to him and would have been better if he had lost the bet, many of us were surprised as to who in their right senses wishes themself loses in sports betting.

I later tried to find out what actually happened and discovered the dude had only put around $0.7 on the bet and won around $3.5 (amount not enough to even buy him a snack and a bottle of bear), this was the reason he was not happy and wished the bet ended in a loss 😁
He has bet a very small amount so he doesn't care about it. Here if he bet at least $20 or more he would have taken care of it. Then he would have been very happy if he had won twice, not five times. But of course every single dollar should be cared for. Because money is always money. If he's just in it for fun then that's fine.  But if he takes them seriously then later he will bet bigger amount of money there and of course his target will be big odds and there he will lose most of the time.

Why do they still bet even though they are afraid of losing and bet very low? Probably to try out their luck and see if they were right about the bet.
I know that feeling and know people who did exactly that. They had an idea to bet on a match, but were short on money. They ended up betting anyway, just 10% of what they were planning to bet, just to see what might have happened.

If they lose they are happy because they can say they did the right thing of not betting all their money, while if they win life goes on. They are proven right and can brag about it.
It's like being right both times in their head.

I later in the chat asked him why didn't he bet a bigger amount of money like atleast between $20 and $50, any of this amount would have given him a nice total win amount from $100 and above, he responded saying he initially wanted to bet $15, but he was afraid of losing this money, coupled with the fact that he wasn't also sure the bet would win, and I then asked him, why is he now angry for winning a small amount of money when it's completely his fault? And what is the essence of gambling in the first place when the fear of losing money outweighs the desire to win big amount of money?

A gambler who is afraid of losing his money should not gamble, before starting the game he should have realized the risks and accepted whatever the results are both winning and losing, he lowered the bet and then won and then got angry at the same time, this is the behavior of an irresponsible gambler.

If you are afraid of losing money, it is better not to gamble from the beginning, because this will cause stress, excessive anxiety, cause unstable emotions and sometimes even a sense of despair over the circumstances that he created himself.

And the simple question is - Should a gambler be afraid of losing money to gambling? Why not simply stay away from gambling then?

I was In a group chat on WhatsApp yesterday when a member told us he won his 5 odd bet was very angry still, he said it didn't feel like a winning to him and would have been better if he had lost the bet, many of us were surprised as to who in their right senses wishes themself loses in sports betting.

I later tried to find out what actually happened and discovered the dude had only put around $0.7 on the bet and won around $3.5 (amount not enough to even buy him a snack and a bottle of bear), this was the reason he was not happy and wished the bet ended in a loss 😁.

Fear is a normal feeling and what has kept people safe for generations, it is what told us to run from tigers or avoid other bad situations. You should embrace and try to get to the root cause of why you feel this way, as it will help you harness a powerful ability. Your money is a valuable resource that bookmakers are always trying to take away from you in order to line their pockets with profit, so you should always seek out the most sensible bets or expect to lose money for a little bit of entertainment. As long as you keep your betting within reasonable limits and don't spend all your money on it, there's nothing to actually be afraid about and you can walk away from gambling at any point.

I find the story funny, because this person won $3.5, he can bet on some games with that money, it is surely better than winning nothing. There is nothing wrong in being scared of losing your money, at least you should have that consciousness and it will help you to gamble with only an amount of money that you can afford to lose. You will not always be lucky to win, so do not think that because you won with a low stake, you will win again if you increase your stake.

i think the fear of losing money is natural, but it shouldn't stop you from gaming, just gamble responsibly and with a budget, don't get attached to the money, enjoy the excitement and the thrill of winning, don't be a slave to the fear of losing, it's not healthy

Even the most courageous warrior is afraid of losing. I know this is not a strong example but you understand it that it is a human psychological thing. Losing causes many negative reactions, sadness, anger, pain and others. Nobody likes to lose but it is inevitable and so is the case in the situation where the outcome is not your to give. You should say away from gambling if this fear is affecting your ability to carry out simple tasks.

It's normal to be afraid, because even the most hardcore gamblers get double thought especially when the game isn't going their way. The annoying part of everything is the fact that he is angry when he won, I mean if he is afraid then why he is angry this just shows a sign of green because it's greed that can make a gambler be angry after even winning a bet.

It's certainly because he is not only betting what he can afford to lose unfortunately. When you bet in this situation you make decision under too much pressure and fear of losing critical funds for you, usually after losses in this situation you reduce too much your stake which leads to not being able to recover your losses because the winnings you're able to get are too small sadly. When you bet amounts you can afford to lose you don't act like this and you can face volatility and bad streak without giving up.

If there is any kind of fear while gambling, it should be a very little fear of losing so much in short period. The money someone should risk with in gambling should be extra and a budget to have fun only. As someone who has gambled so many time with fear of losing, I totally get your friend’s emotional experience. When the dude won but felt bad is in regret over playing it safe. He had the right picks, but because he bet small, the win felt like a waste of time.

This guy just needs to decide if he does want to play it safe with extra money and accept smaller wins, or is he willing to take bigger risks for bigger rewards knowing that’s dangerous or cannot be afforded. In both cases, it’s surely wrong for anyone to feel much fear for losing money while gambling, it’s the same as thinking gambling as a reliable source of making an income.

Sorry to say it but this guy is confused firstly with his self and then with gambling or anything else. He doesn't want to play big but neither bet less. He wanted to win but only if he bets big. So from the start, this guy has split personality issues.
As for your question, everyone who plays is afraid of losing his money but they also want to win. And if you don't play, there are 0 chances to win anything.

In my opinion, people who bet like that basically have no courage, are not serious about gambling, and do not want to be seen to have made any mistakes. Maybe in other things too, it will look like they have no principles. It could also be that such people want to test their annual luck, only they do not have enough money to bet, so they do it in very small amounts.

There is no impact from such bets, simply they have wasted money and time. In my opinion, in many cases, maybe no one is interested and cares about the story of winning in small amounts, especially if they brag about it. I can understand if the person is new to gambling, because there is a possibility that in the future they will bet larger amounts.

Thats the dumbest thing i ever heard in terms of gambling.  Why woukd you ever bet if the outcome after a win is that you are mad aboit it lol.  I mean in the best case he loses money makes no sense.  I get the fact that after a heavy underdog wins you wished you bet more but to be mad that you won is crazy.  Sounds like that person needs to stop gambling altogether honestly

I once read a book about psychological biases that says, "we feel the pain of losing something twice as intensely as the pleasure of winning."

That's so true. When you are gambling, you tend to realize that when you win, you feel happy, but when you lose, the feelings feel more intense, the same goes for big wins and big losses. When you hit a big win, you become thrilled, but still, if you compare it with a time when you lost a similar amount, you will realize that the feeling about the loss was more intense.

This is probably the reason why it is said that gambling or anything that involves losing and gaining finances in large quantities isn't good for people with heart conditions or other illnesses which makes them vulnerable to sudden shocks and such a shock can be deadly for them.
