People have the right to say whatever they want to say but we have a view on what they say regarding the level of truth. ETH which has a fairly large market cap compared to other altcoins will never be a threat to bitcoin and that is not a relevant reason. If you want to know why bitcoin can be one of the best then learn how its journey in the market and personally I prefer to say some other coins will grow side by side in the market like ETH and BNB. But if it is said whether ETH will be a threat to bitcoin it is a big mistake because ETH will never be able to destroy bitcoin.

There's no coin in existence currently, that can reach bitcoin potentials. No coin can solve the problem that bitcoin is solving. The decentralized nature of bitcoin and security it gives due to the difficulty target during mining makes bitcoin the only unique coin worth to invest in. Etherum value has ever been down despite bitcoin creating new ATH several times in this circle.

Altcoins are in existence because of Bitcoin; if it wasn't for Bitcoin, no one would trade altcoins, and it's pretty evident with the fact that the whole market moves along with Bitcoin, which makes it clear that people buy and sell altcoins when Bitcoin is going up or down. It's pretty obvious that no altcoins can be a threat to Bitcoin because they don't even have enough strength to be in that area where Bitcoin resides.

Apart from that, most of the altcoins aren't even decentralized or fully decentralized, Ethereum, that you mentioned, is itself not decentralized despite being the strongest of them all because of it maintaining its position for more than a decade, but it's not a threat for Bitcoin because would never trust Ethereum as much as they trust Bitcoin because Bitcoin is completely decentralized with no entity or third-party having any sort of control over it and its network.

No one can replace Bitcoin as it's the king of crypto.

If we look at the numbers, Bitcoin currently holds over 60% dominance in the entire altcoin market. That alone shows the massive gap and which coin is leading and controlling the space. If the whole crypto market were to collapse, it would mean Bitcoin collapsed first because as long as Bitcoin stands strong, the rest of the market follows.
Even we can say that there's no assurance here on crypto space on which it is really that very hard to believe that there are some altcoins that would be able to overtake Bitcoin into its #1 spot for so long or lets say since this crypto market had started. Altcoins is never been a thread to Bitcoin even we do remember the dominance of altcoins ETH specifically almost that getting in line with BTC in the past but just like on what been said earlier by some posters that at the moment that such changes on ETH then it do becomes shit. Im not an ETH hater but there are still some even more better projects than this, i do even see that SOL could overtake on this one but well everything will really be that remain to be speculative as this market will always be. If you do have that huge trust with Bitcoin then it will really be that up to you on where you would really be investing your hard earned money but of course we do know the golden rule of this cryptos space when it comes to investment on which is that you shouldnt really be investing into the amount on which you cant afford to lose. Never ever make yourself that goes beyond that rule on which you wont be able to have regrets in the end if ever the market turned out to be shit.

I have being giving this question a thought for days now, if other altcoins can be a threat to bitcoin especially ethereum which some folks are saying is a threat to bitcoin, and I came to understand that, the reason why other altcoins can never be a threat to bitcoin is that, bitcoin being the first and largest cryptocurrency has survived external attacks and attempted ban from government, which no altcoin has face such attack, because bitcoin has already paved way for them.

bitcoin has also overcome many social and political trials, which those trials almost led to the shut down of bitcoin, yet bitcoin  gain more attention and adoption, which no altcoin has gained such attention and adoption, not even ethereum which some folks out there are saying is a threat to bitcoin.

Bitcoin has already dominated the crypto space, because it has always remained active and accessible without interruption, and to my own best of knowledge I don't think if companies like Facebook, Microsoft and Google have achieved this level of reliability which bitcoin has achieved so far, talk more of altcoins.

And I we also like to see more contributions from members of this forum, let prove to some folks out there that altcoins can never be a threat to bitcoin, because alot of folks out there are saying that ethereum will be the end and the down fall of bitcoin, which I doubt.

Ethereum per say I can't really say for certain. Because from all of the challenges bitcoin faced up until now it still dominates above other altcoins. Never can tell what the future holds. But from what we see at this very present non is to contend with Bitcoin

What is certain is that Ethereum or other altcoins will not be able to become the world's number 1 crypto and beat Bitcoin because it can be said that Bitcoin is the mother of all coins, so it is impossible for other coins to beat Bitcoin.

In my opinion, Altcoin is just an illusion, no matter how cool the use case is, no matter how handsome, no matter how beautiful, no matter how great the whitepaper system is, no matter how famous the person who created the coin is, or whatever. The point is, it's useless, remember this formula "If all crypto prices are based on Bitcoin, if Bitcoin goes up, then altcoin will also go up, and vice versa, when Bitcoin goes down, altcoin will also go down and it will be difficult to go up again. So no matter how cool the altcoin is, it will definitely not be able to surpass Bitcoin, this is the basis.

That's why if altseason comes, just sell it gradually and then buy Bitcoin again, because it's useless to hold-hold-hold altcoin if Bitcoin is slammed, altcoin will be destroyed. We have seen this from history that happened several years ago, and until now Bitcoin remains solid at the top coin.

Out of all the shitcoins you unfortunately picked the shittiest of them all. Ethereum.
Ethereum lost any hope when it switched to POS
Bitcoin strength isn't just been the first
But it's decentralized system and resilience like an honey badger.

Agreed.  The only thing that helps eth is all of the tokens built on the platform and the greed from meme traders.  They literally will support anything no matter how scammy or how expensive it is.  Bitcoin has first mover advantage overall and more importantly pretty much solves anything these other coins being created do as well.

I will stand with you to say no alt coin can surpass bitcoin but that does not means the bitcoin ecosystem should not be reviewed to enhance the blockchain and so also the elevate on potential values because the crypto space has become competitive which we are also seeing some good alt coins doing well. However, bitcoin has interestingly made good records proving the feasibilities of cryptography after several trial of related financial system that all failed.
A crypto coin could be proposed to stay with good values based on it market capitalization and liquidation of users holdings, fortunately bitcoin had made it so far that no alt coin could have it a threat because as time goes by, those hyping coins will soonest go dust and reform refurbish because it fails to perform it community users expectations.

If other altcoins are a threat to bitcoin then many people would have preferred using altcoins than bitcoin but to be exact,  it's the opposite so that means altcoins isn't a threat to bitcoin. You can say that altcoins are like a children to bitcoin which in my opinion that bitcoin is much better than altcoins although there are some things that us better than bitcoin which is the transaction speed but that's only thing that makes people use it in my opinion.

Who are these folks? Most likely people who hold ETH and hope they can persuade some people that bitcoin is a worse investment to unload their ETH bags.
Don't blindly read messages, always check who stands behind them!

I remember this narrative. ETH was supposed to be the downfall of bitcoin in like 2018 and look at it now. Bitcoin has reached a new ATH while ETH failed to even go back to its price from 2021.

ETH basically died when it got rolled back by Buterin. It wasn't obvious at first but it was the beginning of an end. Then it switched to PoS which was another blow, then we found out that Buterin sold some of his coins to fund other projects, so he was actually dumping his own coin on investors that believed in it, lowering its market price. Last but not least North Korea stole a lot of ETH... IMO there's no chance it will ever flip bitcoin.

Bitcoin has weathered storms that no other crypto has faced. When governments tried banning it, Bitcoin just got stronger.
Most altcoins ride Bitcoin's coattails when BTC goes up or down, they follow. That's not a threat, that's dependency.

Threat? No. Competition? Maybe. But Bitcoin’s biggest enemy isn’t Ethereum, Solana, or any other altcoin. It’s Bitcoiners themselves.

Bitcoin’s survival isn’t just about cryptography, hash rates, or game theory. It’s about culture. It’s about belief. Bitcoin works because people believe in self-sovereignty, decentralization, and unbreakable monetary rules. If that belief fractures whether through governance failures, infighting, or stagnation, Bitcoin weakens from within.

Ethereum isn’t the enemy. It’s an alternative, an experiment in flexibility, smart contract, and different economic models. Some people will choose that path. That doesn’t destroy Bitcoin, unless Bitcoiners allow it to.

Bitcoin’s greatest strength is its immutability, its uncompromising nature. But rigidity can become fragility. If Bitcoiners stop thinking criticaly, stop questioning assumptions, stop evolving, the threat won’t come from the outside. It’ll come from within.

Fix the culture, and Bitcoin outlasts everything. Ignore the culture, and no amount of hash power will save it.

To say that no altcoin could ever be a threat to bitcoin I think is simply not true.  I do agree with many of your statements here and you make some great points, such as with the first mover aspect, this is a big deal.  It's also going to be a more difficult coin to overthrow because of it's utility features/aspects.  Unlike say Ethereum, which is a different coin meant for different purposes and far from being refined.

Ethereum cannot even achieve that in decades to come from now. Bitcoin already gave it a gap that it can’t meet up with again, so there is no need to compare any other altcoins to bitcoin since people see it as the most successful altcoin in the crypto space. Bitcoin is the first crypto and has already differentiated its stance with any other cryptocurrency which are in ground now and the one that will come after now. Bitcoin has already dominated the market, and there is no way any other coin can take that place as it stands now. For the crypto market to stop existing, then Bitcoin has to stop existing which in all likelihood it is not going to happen.

Bitcoin has the strongest network, the best security, and the most support, which keeps it on top. While some altcoins have extra features like smart contracts, they don’t have the same trust and recognition as bitcoin. The real threats to bitcoin come from regulations or big changes in the market, not other crypto projects. For now, bitcoin is still the most reliable and stable choice. This is my opinion

Purely an assumption, but I will tell you that it never happens. In fact, Ethereum has been in the market for several decades, and yet it has never been seen as a threat to Bitcoin. None of the altcoins has such potential because Bitcoin is far different from them. That is why they are called altcoins, and we can't change it.

If I were you, I wouldn't look at every coin as a threat to other coins. They are created for different purposes and their market potential.

Bitcoin represents the crypto market, and if Bitcoin is banned, it means that they are banning the entire crypto market.

because alot of folks out there are saying that ethereum will be the end and the down fall of bitcoin, which I doubt.

Can you tell me who told you this? Because I believe a person with proper knowledge about crypto would never make such false statements. Only the ignorant or those who gamble with altcoins in hopes of getting rich quick have such misconceptions.

To be fair, I don't know if any altcoin can threaten bitcoin because the crypto industry is constantly evolving and anything can happen. But as of now, ETH or any other altcoin cannot match bitcoin, let alone threaten it. Bitcoin is still dominating the market by its own strength, it has proven that it is the safest and most trusted currency due to its decentralized nature. Meanwhile, the rest of the market is centralized, how can they compare to bitcoin, let alone threaten it?

To whatever altcoin that might be, good luck to them and their developers because there's no way that another altcoin is going to take over the number one spot any time soon. Bitcoin is already at a point where it's just so valuable that it would be really difficult for an upstart cryptocurrency or an established one to do a take over plus that notion is going to be met with a lot of resistance and I don't think that a lot of people like the idea that someone is going to take bitcoin's place, not to mention that the very idea of taking over is going to raise a lot of red flags because a lot of people have already seen this before with a lot of scam altcoins that promised to be the next bitcoin but they all end up with a rug pull that left people hanging with no money or profit from those scams.

No altcoin had never been a threat to Bitcoin, not even one. I'm not just preaching Bitcoin because others do, but I'm saying it from my experience in the space, no other altcoin can survive the the criticism Bitcoin faced from it's inception and still dominate till this moment.

Altcoins were created as an update of old technology. I think it's not a threat, but an innovation to eliminate the weaknesses of old technology. But Bitcoin has always had a special value that we can't find in new altcoins. So I think Altcoins are part of what makes Bitcoin grow even more. Altcoins are creating options for investors and that is good growth.

The current condition has been that many Altcoins have been created so that the crypto industry is growing very rapidly. This means that more and more funds are coming in. Indeed, this leaves investors with many options and can be confusing. In addition, the condition of investors' money may also be divided. So the capitalization of altcoins is very different from a few years ago because it splits.

It's their honeypot scam story from altcoin project and if you look at history of cryptocurrency market, and thousand of altcoin projects have ever been created and died. They all launched their projects to make innovation, technological upgrades, whatever sounds great, but since 2009, many altcoins created and died. Altcoin blockchains are more vulnerable to network attacks, more sensitive to hacks, more easily manipulated by founders with massive mint functions like Terra three years ago.

Bitcoin blockchain has never been attacked 51% successfully, and there was no rollback on Bitcoin blockchain. With altcoin blockchains, they have all these, 51% attacks, blockchain rollbacks, and blockchain halts and more severe events.
