There so many people reasons why altcoins will no day match the importance of Bitcoin. Ranging from the network effect of Bitcoin as the first crypto with the largest age most secure network, decentralization and security of the coin, the global and institutional recognition and adoption of Bitcoin, the liquidity and market dominance of Bitcoin and several others. Altcoins can only compete against each other but never be a threat to Bitcoin, not today and not even in the future to come

OP, are you a newbie or something? The topic you are starting is more suitable for the Forum Archive, since thousands of forum threads with the same title and content have been started in this forum in the last 12 years. Maybe you should look at the Forum Archive for answers.
Ethereum exists since 2015. Did it ever threatened Bitcoin's dominance? I don't think so. I have repeated this 100 times and I will write it again. Competition is good for the cryptocurrency markets. If there's an altcoin, that is good enough to challenge Bitcoin's dominance, that's a good thing. However, I don't see any altcoin being good enough to dethrone Bitcoin.

^ It's a never-ending question, just like the one with the Identity of Satoshi.

And I agree - competition, especially viability and scalability-wise (and such), is good.

Bitcoin is the best crypto coin in the world and one of the best investment right now in the world and there's no way Altcoin can be a threat to bitcoin because Bitcoin is more legit than others the reason why I'm saying so is because Bitcoin is a decentralized coin and it has a limited number this things are what Altcoin don't have for that reason they can never be compared to Bitcoin or even be a threat to bitcoin, no Altcoin can ever have a history growth like Bitcoin, Altcoin as soon as they are been lunch and they start growing because of traders as soon as that time passes the growth stops Bitcoin in the other hand has been growing since it's creation till date, I know some people who decided to invest in some Altcoin and till date they are regretting there action, some of this Altcoin there creators brought it to existence so they can make money from it they will be the one's holding the highest number and as soon as it starts growing they sell off all the coin in there possession and make huge amount of profit from it so Altcoin is seen as scam and they have been the ones spoiling the name of Bitcoin.
No Altcoin can ever be bigger than Bitcoin.

No Altcoin can ever be bigger than Bitcoin.

Altcoin can become bigger than BTC though, but essentially, and fundamentally, BTC would still be better off in the long run.

Surely, it may not happen this decade or the next one, but we never say never in the space for a reason  Wink

The future is unpredictable and the crypto industry is still growing and will only get stronger, so whether bitcoin will dominate the crypto market forever remains a question mark. But for now and in the near future, bitcoin will still be king and certainly no one can threaten it. Because when you look at the altcoin market, they seem like a mess, a place for gambling, speculation...instead of focusing on building products with use cases, real applications...like bitcoin. The purpose of creating bitcoin and altcoins is very different and that may be why bitcoin is the most trusted and secure coin on the market.
Certainly the far future is unpredictable, nobody knows the type of technological advancements that will be available then. But presently and in the foreseeable future there is no cryptocurrency that can come close to Bitcoin, in terms of reputation and potentials. The way I see it, altcoins are basically gambles, especially memecoins, they are pump and dump shitcoins without any use case, created to scam ignorant investors. Bitcoin was created and many people had their doubts about it, gradually it began to build trust and has become a store of value, a valuable asset worth holding.

Out of all the shitcoins you unfortunately picked the shittiest of them all. Ethereum.
Ethereum lost any hope when it switched to POS
Bitcoin strength isn't just been the first
But it's decentralized system and resilience like an honey badger.
While these altcoins are a temporary threat to Bitcoin, they are not a permanent threat. Sometimes altcoins have a huge impact on the Bitcoin market, but that impact doesn't last long. Rather, it is temporary and then subsides. Although altcoins are currently going through a bad season, Bitcoin has not been affected too badly. In fact, despite a few days of dumping, the market has now started to correct again.

No coin out there can come close to bitcoin, so non of those coins can be treated as bitcoin. Bitcoin is very distinct in it's nature, unique and rare. The only coin that has the ability of getting back to it's previous ATH and setting new ones freely. Above all bitcoin is decentralised. Those other coins are centralised and that alone has distinguished them from bitcoin. At least for the time being, there will be no crypto industry without bitcoin. So if anyone thinks that any coin out there can be treated like bitcoin that person is mistaken and needs to wake up to reality. No other coin out there can have the level of market dominance as bitcoin has been doing over the years.

Bitcoin’s dominance is at one of its highest levels in many years. Despite altcoins occasionally having better performance, they ultimately don’t gain enough traction to continue that momentum.

The Ethereum flippening might have seemed like a real possibility at one point when it was new and innovative and the possibilities for creating decentralized applications seemed limitless. Eventually they faced scaling challenges that led to the creation of many more competing chains that diverted liquidity and talent from Ethereum.

Bitcoin has not yet seen a rival that can compete with it in terms of being sound money and being the most decentralized blockchain. It’s not impossible for another coin to overtake Bitcoin, we have already seen some metrics where it no longer dominates, but I do not see any obvious candidate which meets enough of the conditions to do so any time soon.

It's not going to happen this cycle, but we, as the ones who were in the space long enough, need to watch out and never say something can't happen just because or because of X (a fact so engrained that it's like a holy truth or something).

I have been investing and holding in the altcoin king Ethereum, but this coin has not yet entered a pumping situation. When Bitcoin was at its peak of $109K, Ethereum was $3,800, but today Bitcoin is $92,000 and Ethereum is $2,300. Why did I give more importance to Ethereum than Bitcoin?

I have being giving this question a thought for days now, if other altcoins can be a threat to bitcoin especially ethereum which some folks are saying is a threat to bitcoin, and I came to understand that, the reason why other altcoins can never be a threat to bitcoin is that, bitcoin being the first and largest cryptocurrency has survived external attacks and attempted ban from government, which no altcoin has face such attack, because bitcoin has already paved way for them.

bitcoin has also overcome many social and political trials, which those trials almost led to the shut down of bitcoin, yet bitcoin  gain more attention and adoption, which no altcoin has gained such attention and adoption, not even ethereum which some folks out there are saying is a threat to bitcoin.

Bitcoin has already dominated the crypto space, because it has always remained active and accessible without interruption, and to my own best of knowledge I don't think if companies like Facebook, Microsoft and Google have achieved this level of reliability which bitcoin has achieved so far, talk more of altcoins.

And I we also like to see more contributions from members of this forum, let prove to some folks out there that altcoins can never be a threat to bitcoin, because alot of folks out there are saying that ethereum will be the end and the down fall of bitcoin, which I doubt.

For many times this kind of topic has been raised but many years pass there's  still no other altcoin out there became strong candidate to replace Bitcoin since majority of them failed or those top alts just became an option by people.

Investors would always prefer Bitcoin since this is the face of whole crypto and no one can eliminate it. That's why many scammers use the the next Bitcoin word thing since they want to attract people then scam them and people need to be aware with that scam then avoid since its better to focus on Bitcoin rather playing with fire with other altcoins out there.

Altcoins would never be a threat to Bitcoin and if you see the price of Bitcoin all of them will also experience a downfall that's why its hard for such situation to happen if someone still thinking if there are alts could dethrone Bitcoin on its current position.

Because you thought it would be more profitable in the end.

Alas, now you know what to prioritize in the future.

Yes, this topic has often come up and the answer will always be the same, there will be no altcoin that can be a threat to Bitcoin, because Bitcoin is the most perfect digital currency among other digital currencies and altcoins are just imitations or copies that can never be as perfect as the original like Bitcoin. And what is most known to other people or what is first known by smart investors is Bitcoin and is the best choice in terms of profit and also has a lower risk compared to other coins in the long term, and of course if anyone says or promises that there will be the next Bitcoin, it is a scam because there will never be another Bitcoin and sometimes its popularity will be used by scammers to trick beginners who do not have knowledge about Bitcoin.

For me, the topic would have been, 'can Bitcoin be a threat to altcoins?' I said so because it is obvious that BTC is the number coin in the crypto currency space and as a leader with a very distinct price margin and market cap, other altcoins look up to its performance to develop theirs, so as it would measure up with the standard that Bitcoin brought into the market.
I think only BTC is pegged to the dollar because of its popularity and demand and the function it serves both as regards wealth accumulation and as a hedge against inflation, should make other altcoins quake in their standings and opt to do better.

There is no need for both of them to be "threats" to each other..

All of the coins fulfill their own purposes and goals, and none of them are "to topple BTC" or "to topple an X alt".

And that is what's beautiful.

As far as I remember, altcoins can never be a threat to bitcoin, but bitcoin is. Don’t forget that altcoins are build out from the image of bitcoin, but unfortunately no one ends successful. So seeing that fact, altcoins are actually triggered by bitcoin that’s why they want to take an edge of it, but bitcoin makes the foundation of crypto,  with that there’s no way that altcoins could beat bitcoin.

I doubt there’s any threat to Bitcoin in terms of how people perceive cryptocurrencies—Bitcoin will always be the #1 currency, the gold standard of crypto.

However, if you're referring to market cap, it's absolutely possible that an altcoin could surpass Bitcoin in value in the future.

The cryptocurrency market is still young, and we’re likely to see a lot of shifts over the next 5–10 years.
