Bitcoin has already dominated the crypto space, because it has always remained active and accessible without interruption, and to my own best of knowledge I don't think if companies like Facebook, Microsoft and Google have achieved this level of reliability which bitcoin has achieved so far, talk more of altcoins.

And I we also like to see more contributions from members of this forum, let prove to some folks out there that altcoins can never be a threat to bitcoin, because alot of folks out there are saying that ethereum will be the end and the down fall of bitcoin, which I doubt.

$1.5b worth of Ethereum was stolen from a cold wallet of Bybit and the significant difference in price of Bitcoin was 1.8%, it never change till Trump started his tariff fight with other countries. About 500k ethereum was laundered through different protocols and Bitcoin remain strong, it was even reported that this was the highest hack worth of Bitcoin in real time and the market remains even strong, so how will alts be a threat to Bitcoin.

It used to back in the days but if things happen and market dump and then later pump, it will be foolish to always sell your coins when there is a slight chaos in the market. It's better to hold than listen to pleb that fud the market because it will always be what it's. Remember what lunar CEO did, after selling Bitcoin in the market everything crash and here it's still stronger and better like it ever happened at all. Altcoins threat is gradually depreciating.

Can other altcoins be a threat to bitcoin.
OP you need to underline, the threat of altcoin against Bitcoin is not just this time being discussed, one year Bitcoin was developed in the Crypto Market Threating it already exists, but Bitcoin has developed And running for about 16 years, over time the issue of threats disappeared like in the swallow of the earth, the proof is that until now there has been no altcoin that can defeat Bitcoin.

Not only Altcoin, the government has also been a threat to Bitcoin, the facts on the ground are precisely the government itself that focuses on the adoption of large bitcoin, you can see for yourself one by one Altcoin CEO runs away and is involved in various cases, but the creator of BitcoinUntil now it has never been found.

With the facts, still thinking about you there is an altcoin threat to Bitcoin, you should just throw away such thoughts, try to focus on goals The main you enter the world of crypto, want to invest, trade, mining and so on that you need to think about, no need to think about Altcoin is a threat to Bitcoin.

Nope, it's already 16 years and there's no altcoins can be better than Bitcoin.

Few altcoins are better in few thing compared to Bitcoin, but Bitcoin have a combination that most all altcoins don't have and it's the strength of Bitcoin.

I think we will not see any coins better than Bitcoin in near future, we might see something better but it's not "cryptocurrency" anymore. Just like in the past, we only know banks, stock, gold etc, cryptocurrency was completely a new thing.

Slightly unpopular opinion: It might eventually, but probability is currently very low for the short to medium term. (There were times where high-profile Bitcoiners like Paul Sztorc thought the danger was actually quite high, though.)

But first we have to clarify: when would an altcoin be exactly a threat to Bitcoin? If it can reach a similar market cap? I don't think so.

First, many altcoins simply don't provide the qualities of Bitcoin like censorship resistance, security and decentralization. Even Ethereum is significantly more centralized than Bitcoin, and coins like BNB, TON or XRP are directly company coins which could also work as traditional client-server applications.

If such a centralized altcoin was to surpass Bitcoin in terms of market cap / price, this would mean basically nothing. It's like, let's say Saudi Aramco surpassing the market cap of Apple. It's simply different markets with different users and use cases, although there may be some competition (because both are investment assets), but there is no threat that Bitcoin could decline only because of that "flippening".

There is however a scenario we as Bitcoiners should always take into account, which is that eventually Bitcoin's security budget could become low enough for another decentralized altcoin to take the crown -- and this would be a threat perhaps.

Security budget is basically the money invested by miners which rises the cost of an 51% attack. It depends on the sum of block rewards and transaction fees, and if it becomes too low (e.g. because the "fee market" doesn't work), then we could be heading into a problem.

But there are solutions to this -- from merged mining sidechains and altchains, to perhaps even voluntary fees, up to a small "tail emission" as last resort which would have to be decided very carefully. This is controversial, but there are even ways to implement a tail emission without putting the 21 million limit into danger, for example with a small burnt fee per transaction (some altcoins already have implemented this).

However, if this process fails, and Bitcoiners are so stubborn that they ignore this threat, this may give the opportunity to an altcoin to surpass Bitcoin. And this could be a threat if said altcoin provides the qualities of Bitcoin -- decentralization and censorship resistance.

I have being giving this question a thought for days now, if other altcoins can be a threat to bitcoin especially ethereum which some folks are saying is a threat to bitcoin, and I came to understand that, the reason why other altcoins can never be a threat to bitcoin is that, bitcoin being the first and largest cryptocurrency has survived external attacks and attempted ban from government, which no altcoin has face such attack, because bitcoin has already paved way for them.
First of all Ethereum or other shitcoins can not be a threat to Bitcoin even though many people would like to pull out their fund from Bitcoin and invest in some shitty coin over Bitcoin, hoping it could be like Bitcoin someday. I see that as distraction to Bitcoin but nevertheless Bitcoin will still stand out among the others, since it can not be duplicated.

bitcoin has also overcome many social and political trials, which those trials almost led to the shut down of bitcoin, yet bitcoin  gain more attention and adoption,
Bitcoin can not shut down for any reason since it is not controlled by centralized entity. You should know that Bitcoin is not a shopping mall or restaurant where it can be shut down. Though government may set rule against the use of Bitcoin for transactions. But Bitcoin can not be ban.

let prove to some folks out there that altcoins can never be a threat to bitcoin, because alot of folks out there are saying that ethereum will be the end and the down fall of bitcoin, which I doubt.
You don't need to prove to anyone that Ethereum and other shitcoins are not threat to Bitcoin. Bitcoin has proven itself to be the Best Among the rest.

I don't think that altcoins can challenge Bitcoin on value just because Bitcoin's distribution will never again be able to be replicated.  However, in actual usage I think that altcoins will surpass Bitcoin.  Bitcoin is going to be the store of value (gold) while altcoins will most likely one day take over the payment processing (VISA) side of things.  I also don't think Bitcoin can handle the tokenization of regular assets, so there is room for more than one cryptocurrency.  Bitcoin will in my opinion always be where most of the value is held though.

I don't think other altcoins will be a threat to bitcoin but bitcoin is the greatest threat to altcoins. Bitcoin is moving on it own without any interference and the issue in bitcoin is demand and supply. Bitcoin has not follow any altcoins to go up and come down bit they do.
They are a threat because they have something that BTC doesn't have and that is why they get a demand. There are lots of alts now and the threat level can vary on their performances. It must be ETH has the highest threat to BTC but luckily it didn't became so superior to surpass BTC, I mean for us that favors BTC more, we are thankful with that but alts and ETH supporters can also wish for the opposite. BTC is the first and main crypto, so yeah that it can move on its own but demand and supply is not an issue of it. Demand and supply is only just a term or fundamentals in economics. This determines the value of the thing, asset, or a currency.

Bitcoin is the only legit cryptocurrency that one can invest without fear and tremble.
Old or new BTC investors, I think fear and tremble can't be avoided but it may not be as heavy or common as if we invest on other cryptos.

We can say, bitcoin is like the gold metal among other metals. Surely, there will be other alts that can have other usage in the market, maybe a lot cheaper than btc when it comes to financial transactions, however, btc will remain the top cryptocurrency in the market. As we have seen, thousands of alts have been created and marketed, and yet, up until now, btc is still in its top position. We may have used other alts for transfer purposes, but the popularity alone is one of the advantages of btc.

Just heat to the Alts section in this forum and you will see that there are so many threads about those long list of coins, tokens or any crypto project. And yet, up until now, no one has surpassed the position of btc in the market. Some may have large following but btc is usually the first choice of most crypto users and the first to recognize by noncrypto users when you talk about crypto.

Bitcoin hasn't still gotten to the level of Gold up till date, any altcoin that is attempting to compete against Bitcoin needs a level of longevity and market dominance to be able to prevail over Bitcoin, only Ethereum has it for now yet we still can't compare the success or focus specifically at a time were Ethereum will become the head of the digital market. The future is untold, but from what we see from here, it doesn't seem like any altcoin is a threat, Bitcoin remains the lead digital currency to date.

I don't see this as a general view point but a personal views. And personally I have not seen any altcoin to be a threat to bitcoin. As you said in those days, Ethereum believers were saying the same thing that Ethereum would surpassed bitcoin and today it is not even close to 3% if bitcoin and it is the closest to bitcoin and if Ethereum which is closest to bitcoin can't beat or be a threat to bitcoin as they proclaimed before then I don't think any other coin is a threat to it.
The demand and supply is very much fundamental in the cryptocurrency market.

I think Bitcoin can't be beaten in value, security, and privacy, of course, because even if altcoins cover the part where users can make transactions faster and cheaper, there will always be the risk of losing your privacy or complete control over your assets when the network and the coins in it wouldn't be completely decentralized and we know altcoins operate differently. Many people love Bitcoin mostly because it's truly decentralized, unlike other cryptocurrencies, which are either party or not at all decentralized.

When it comes to network security, we know that Bitcoin's network and blockchain are pretty secure because we haven't seen anything major happening to it since its inception, and that's commendable. Network congestions are a different matter if someone argues they are a problem, I know they are, but I'm talking about the network getting compromised or disrupted by exploiters or attackers.

We should rephrase the title and make it like this -

"Bitcoin, a threat to all altcoins"

It should be like that. The community has dealt with so many "threats" to Bitcoin for the past years and none of them became as good as BTC. Ethereum? it won't be a threat to Bitcoin, it's a POS and compared to PoW. People like more with security but the richer people likes more control and money which goes to POS.

Right now, I'm thinking quite the opposite, can Bitcoin be a threat to alt coins? What I mean is, if for any reason there's any situation that leads to a great effect on Bitcoin, can altcoins survive it? Bitcoin is like a father to other alt coins and those altcoins can not stand as a threat to it but rather Bitcoin can be a threat to them all because if Bitcoin gets affected, they all will face a great impact too like a disease.

As long it would really be having that huge community dominance then it will really be that still can be beaten but since we do know into this market is unpredictable then it will really be that not giving out that 100% assurance that we wont really be coming into point and this is why as a personal point of view then you should be trying out to diversify your investment on which it isnt really just that limited to crypto but also in other investments as well because even if we do say about putting up all of your money on Bitcoin but still it wont really be that removing into that point that you are really that still included into the risks on which this isnt really that an exemption. This is why its really that important that you shouldnt really be that investing on one basket on which its really that better that you do really know on what are the things that you would gonna need to do to lessen up the risks. Altcoins isnt a threat to Bitcoin and it would never be but since this market doesnt give out assurance then it will definitely an another story.

Although we don't know what will happen in the future, Bitcoin will still lead crypto. Altcoin is not a threat for Bitcoin but altcoin give another hope to people to make money besides from Bitcoin. We don't need to prove anything because people out there will see by themselves how strong Bitcoin to survive in the hard situation especially this time.

While many altcoin replace the position in the crypto market, Bitcoin still stay at the position and lead the market. No matter how hard the negative news release, Bitcoin still survive and even get more supports from community. That is different from the altcoin when they lose support from their community and make the project lose power and disappear.

Actually, we knew and we know. Nobody will ever dethrone the King. Bitcoin IS crypto.

Altcoin is not a threat for Bitcoin but altcoin give another hope to people to make money besides from Bitcoin.

That's true. And that's the main reason that none will ever dethrone the King. Because they are followers of it based on quick profit and not the idea.

We don't need to prove anything because people out there will see by themselves how strong Bitcoin to survive in the hard situation especially this time.

Oh, we already proved how strong is BTC when the so-called "guru of economics" and their media armies all over the world laugh about it and throw all their dirt on it. And now, they want to create "reserves"... Cheesy

And I we also like to see more contributions from members of this forum, let prove to some folks out there that altcoins can never be a threat to bitcoin, because alot of folks out there are saying that ethereum will be the end and the down fall of bitcoin, which I doubt.
Altcoins can never be a threat for Bitcoin because Bitcoin is the king  Cool and all other alts are following it. We all know that I never heard this before TBH that alts are threat to BTC, the reason you mentioned that other said, are also illogical to me, in short we don't have to stretch this out because reality is in fron of us.

We know alts follow BTC, and most of the dominance is of BTC too, and when people invest in alts they take profit they have to swap their profit into more stable and profitable asset and for them the easiest way is to conver them into BTC so now or in near future they will invest in BTC.

I think we will not see any coins better than Bitcoin in near future, we might see something better but it's not "cryptocurrency" anymore. Just like in the past, we only know banks, stock, gold etc, cryptocurrency was completely a new thing.
Hm interesting. Do you mean that there will be a complete new and different concept that will be better than crypto?

In my opinion, cryptocurrency really has not yet reached its complete or maximum potential so I do not think we will be moving on to a different concept or technology in the near future. Despite that bitcoin has been around for almost 2 decades now, I would still say that the industry is still young and there are still a lot of room for improvement and I know that in the future there will be much more innovative altcoins but I do not think they can surpass bitcoin or at least popularity wise.

Bitcoin is, to some extent, an index of the entire crypto industry. When the crypto industry develops, when new ideas, new social and financial technologies appear in it, the price of Bitcoin also grows. When scam coins, empty coins that have no meaning, appear en masse, the price of Bitcoin falls along with the cost of all other coins.

Therefore, in my opinion, we can say that alternative cryptocurrencies can negatively affect Bitcoin.

However, the main danger for Bitcoin does not come from alternative cryptocurrencies. The main danger for Bitcoin is a departure from the principle of decentralization, when mining is centralized, development is centralized, and coin storage is centralized.

This is what can destroy the first cryptocurrency.
