Leadership is about influence. Nothing less, nothing more. Like you said, it's not a simple work and that's why not everyone can be an effective leader.
Many found themselves in positions of leadership but are far from being leaders. Positions do not make leaders; leaders make positions. Interesting you can lead without being in position.
Leadership is about making impacts and influencing the lives of people within your circles positively. However, impacts cannot be made if some qualities are not intact. One among all is unquestionable character. People must be able to trust you and see that you are full of integrity. You life and character must speak volumes of positivity even when you are not physically present in a place.

Leadership is not for the weak. Leadership is impact.

The qualities you mentioned in a leader are the same as those of an ideal leader. A leader can face many difficult situations with his courage and integrity and give the nation the right direction. However, many political thinkers advise the ruler to be strategic and pragmatic instead of being morally ideal in all areas.

Instant intelligence, the ability to control people, honesty and fairness are important qualities that a leader must possess. However, in our country, all the leaders who take on important responsibilities for the country lack any of the above qualities. Instead, they are preoccupied with how to misuse people's money and power.

In fact, leaders have enough qualities to become a true leader, but human nature is greedy, selfish...plus life has too many temptations, and not many people can control the animal side rising inside. That is why most leaders turn evil over time even though they were good or not so bad before.

A leader must not always have to be honest in all matters if he must succeed especially in certain matters that are in the overall interest of his people, if he goes on being honest he could find himself doing a disservice to his people. Good leaders understands this very well. I think every good leader is permissible to have a little touch of greed, selfishness and display bad disposition in certain areas in his leadership role to be able to achieve some objectives and goals for his people which honesty and goodness wouldn't give him.

We often criticize them but what guarantees that when we sit in their shoes, we will not become as greedy as they are?

In our current time there isn't space for great leaders to rise. But from the chaos the wicked leaders of our time are creating, there is hope society changes its mindset and finally demands a great leader to take place.

If a leader walk away from the crowd, who then will he be leading, I think you speaking about charismatic leaders and not political leaders, and if you mean political leaders we have to come to a point we're to call a political leaders a good leader, he must be selfless and supportive to the community and the society at large, making government policies that end poverty and encourage positive changes in the economy and society at large.

And I would say that some people have the ability to be a leader by birth. It is not possible to become a leader by practicing.

In additional to what you stated above, a good leader must have empathy by considering others feelings. He should also be creative and be open minded to new ideas. However, good communication is very important because without this, nothing will work.

This empathy you mentioned is very good quality of a great leader because he ought to consider the feelings of his followers and also ensure to attend to the needs of the people, not after becoming a leader they now start neglecting the opinion of others and feel too authoritative and only want what they say to stand without opposition or hearing the individual views of the followers. Leaders are generally created in two ways: number one is by birth and number two is through perseverance. Those who are born with leadership qualities have all the qualities that attract the attention of people instilled in them, and those who become leaders through perseverance have to acquire all the leadership qualities to become leaders. Adding to what you have said so far, I think a leader should be someone who is equal to any task that will come up or arise and I think transparency should be used in place of communication and a leader should be accountable for everything that he is doing or anything that he has done, a leader should be tolerant that is someone who don't easily get upset with people because of what they say and discipline, doing things rightly.

A great leader is someone who has some certain skills, and qualities that enables him to inspire, direct, teach and guild some people towards achieving some set objectives and goals.
