Gambling is just like smoking and drinking. Immediately you become addicted, then it has become a problem. That  is why is always better for one to control it early before it goes out of hand. People who enjoy gambling are the people who understands what gambling is all about that is they know that there success doesn't lies in gambling but rather if it happens one day that is there luck and people who are miserable are people (gamblers) who believes they can make it in life through gambling and thereby chasing there loss. Indeed, it's a the person's perspective in terms of using religion as alternative, if he really focus his mindset following the practices of his religion then it will help him to achieved things, though if he's just using the service of his religion but he doesn't have that full focus to practice their beliefs then there's nothing that will happen and he'll just going to keep whatever his usual activities.

There are families that are very religious but there is one or few of their family members that are into gambling and are totally addicted to it.

They cannot apply their beliefs on them because what that guy is thinking of is on how he's going to take care of his own losses and how to chase them.

It's hard to get into the tough situation when you have nothing to think of but only of chasing the losses and getting out of it later.

There is what we call self-conviction. There is no amount of suggestions/advice you will give to an addicted gambler for him to quit gambling that will make him quit unless he has self-conviction or should I say self-realization. Addictions is something that is hard to deal with. Most people go to rehab and after some time, go back to do the same thing they were admitted for addiction.

This is the main reason why I think therapy is a waste of time and money for an addicted gambler, if you don't make consistent effort to quit you'd continue to struggle with it. Just like what you said about self realization, that's the first step to quitting, you must first come to terms with reality that you are dependent, some people are addicted but they are still in denial, this is one of the reason why they find it hard to stop. Self discipline is all it takes, you don't need anyone to help you out, just make consistent and intentional efforts daily.

Actually i think majority of those who are addicted into gambling will only want to reduce the rate at which they gamble, I don't think if they will want to put an end to it once and for all. Because I know how difficult it is for them to just put an end to gambling when they haven't recovered from thier loses. Is only those who are still new in that system that can easily put and end to it without thinking about their lost.

It is very difficult for an addicted gambler to stop gambling entirely but such person can limit if kept in an environment where he can't access to gambling center or area where is will difficult to get network to access the internet.

Most gamblers intend to win huge amount of money before they can stop gambling and this process makes them to gamble more hoping to win big and stop gambling forever.

I’ve gambled for years and never once been close to having a problem. My advice is to consider setting strict time limits for gambling and take regular breaks. Take up other hobbies or physical activities to balance your time.

Religious believe have noting to do about gambling addiction, the only thing that can make a great effect on one's gambling addiction is understanding,  decision making and discipline.  I know to end addiction is not easy but for it to come to an end one must be ready to make decisions to stop gambling,  and to understand what gambling is all about and needs to be discipline because if you don't have all these one will always return to gambling addiction.  The character we have is not been controlled by believe or a spiritual power but it is positive to control lifestyle by the decision we make and being very discipline.

I have a question, though. Does not tracking one profit and loss ratio pushes us to see to always be on profit against the house? If that is so, then I could argue rather than a tool which could be useful to prevent gambling addiction, it could actually be counter-productive and encourage us to gamble more than we should. In the end everyone wishes to be in profit when gambling, nobody likes to lose money.
Because of reasons like that I have never adviced other fellows gamblers to keep a track on their profit/loss ratio, rather it is better just to keep stuck to ones budget and forget about the money which is eventually lost to our own bad luck.

There's so much more to learn from the forum when it has to do with gambling. Gambling kills quickly and easily. Gambling addicts are the presentable worse kind of examples of gambling. They don't feel anything for any other activity apart from gambling, they're more focused on concentrating on gambling, they even go as far as trigger the sell clause of their properties all for what? As I see it, religious beliefs are just a convenient way to manage the brain in a good way.

It doesn't need to be real, but over millennia people have realised that religious beliefs actually work for the human mind.

As I mentioned before, it doesn't have to be true, it just works if you have any kind of faith. It simply makes things easier, and you live a simpler life, with less worries.

It might be helpful if you have other close members of a church, but it's not totally 100% that can provide help. They're just there to support you in prayers. Because it's still up to us or it's still up to us how determined we are to change or stop gambling.
