By knowing the right thing to do and what could happen if you are trying to recover your loss. Anyone that knows already that loss recovery attempts can lead to more losses until his money all gone will not want to do that. So the person needs to just try as much as possible to avoid gambling at the time.

I think it has happened to me before but I did not like it at all and I know it is not a good thing at all. I am not a frequent gambler now and if I lose, I can not think of crediting my gambling account because I know I can lose more. I am happy with just little loss. What I also noticed about me is that loss at times discourage me to even gamble for some weeks. I do not know why but that is me.

Yes, it definitely very difficult to stop sometimes. That's why one needs to learn how to control his gambling habits alot. Like I've said in some other post here on the forum, if you are sure to you won't be able to hold back till your funds have all been exhausted, then it's better to only deposit very little funds in there, something that you can afford to loss.

I do this alot so as to help me not risk too much. The idea of having funds to still play with is something that we can't resist when it comes to gambling.

Does anyone here experience this from time to time? Because in the end, the real enemy is ourselves.
How do you control yourself and do the right thing?

Imagine winning a big amount(let's say 25K USD) and then losing everything. The desire to try your luck again would be pretty big.
Now imagine never winning anything from gambling and suddenly you lose your life savings on a casino game. Would you try chasing the loss?
I wouldn't, but some people would. It's harder to stop when you had big wins in the past, and there's hope that you might win again.
It would be easier to stop, if you never won any big money out of gambling. I never won any significant amounts of money and that's why it would be pretty easy for me to just stop and never play a gambling game ever again. I don't know about the people, who had experienced big wins, but I think that it's harder for them to quit.

Nobody is perfect but we can learn through experience. If you’re already losing and you keep gambling more, that just shows a lack of discipline and we all know that’s a recipe for disaster.

Maybe the best way to convince yourself to stop is to reflect on what you’re doing. That’s why taking a break is so important as it gives you time to evaluate whether you’re still in control or if you’re already gambling recklessly.

Also, listen to advice from friends who notice your gambling habits. They might see things you don’t, and their perspective could help you regain control.

Gambling is such a addiction national game if you enter there once. Then getting out of there will be very difficult for you. Because the addiction will grow a little. Whenever you bet, your mind will become addictive. You’ll bet once you win again one time. Whenever you lose all the money you want to bet again and you’ll bet constantly. It’s very difficult to get out of here. If you can continue to maintain all these things you will certainly have the possibility to benefit but it’s not actually possible.

Imagine winning a big amount(let's say 25K USD) and then losing everything. The desire to try your luck again would be pretty big.

Actually, I have no problem stopping when I’m winning as I get a bit scared of losing it all. Let’s say I win $25K, I make sure to stop at $20K so I can still lock in some profit, even if not the full amount.

But when it’s the opposite, if I lose $25K and still have $10K left that I could save .I don’t stop because I want to at least win back my $20K loss.
That’s why stopping in that situation is really tough. But that’s just me, I don’t know about you guys.

Does anyone here experience this from time to time? Because in the end, the real enemy is ourselves.
How do you control yourself and do the right thing?

Practice with small losses and small wins - if you see that you’ve won little try to stop yourself from going further, and also if you see that you’ve lost a small amount of your bank roll try to stop yourself from playing even if deep down you’ve already thought of strategies to help you recover your loses back make sure you call it a quit totally.

That way you’d be able to build the habit of quitting and when you have lost huge amount you won’t find it too hard to quit since it’s already a thing for you - don’t wait till you’ve started to lose big before you want to quit, the guilt of letting everything waste might hold you back from quitting that’s why you see people saying that’s it’s difficult to quit while others don’t see it as a big deal because they have been practicing for a long time and they are well aware of the possible consequences that may arise if they fail to quit at the moment.

So my advice is, don’t wait till the losses are huge before you think of quitting.

It is always advise to set a limit of what one would want to use and gamble and then once that is been exhausted it will be safe for one to stop and try again some other time instead of chasing your loss and the reason why most people keep chasing this loss is because they don't have a limit that they set so they just gamble anyhow which is very wrong and by doing this, you can even go as far as using all your savings that you have access to at that point in time so always set a target and limit and don't try to exceed it no matter how much loss you have make.

Its human nature to take risks and justify the ends of being rich to the reason to taking those risks. It is hardwired in our brains just like food and sex are.

The gambling industry thrives on this and unless you curb your own playing habits it will be difficult to control. It is possible for many to just stop without having any withdrawal.

If this does not work, you can start by maintaining a spreadsheet or profits and losses and go over the numbers every month or so, eventually you will hate the habit so much that you will be able to stop playing.

Just use money management and don`t try to increase the bet to return your money faster. I use one bet size for all bets during my game session. Even if i lose, i never increase bets. (I can decrease it, if i plan to spend all my money and have enough time to play but not enough money.)
Cmon, it`s just the game. It always has some moment when you have to stop. Right now, or when you lose all your money - anyway you`ll stop. So why don`t to stop, when you still have money?

That is because they cannot accept lost, those who can accept lost will definitely be able to stop at any time even though they experience series of lost, indeed not everyone will be able to apply this approach because after all money is very valuable and when they think about the difficulty of getting the money it creates feeling of being able to chase back the lost and recover capital.
Only way is to set the money that can be accepted to lost, only that will make us able to stop gambling after lost and this approach will also indirectly make someone able to control themselves.

The itchy feeling that you wanted to get back what was lost is a strong feeling as if justice has to be served.

Sometimes, I could get back the money lost or at least a few of them before I would stop but if time is allowing me to keep playing, it could result to winning them back or losing it all which is stopping would have been a better decision in the first place. Regretting is the only thing you can do when its over.

I think the reason why we still find people chasing after their losses in gambling is because they refuse to accept losses/defeat from gambling.

Many times I have seen people who have the opportunity to take a step back when they are losing but due to their human nature of not accepting defeat easily, they try to keep trying their luck on gambling till they make sure they recover their losses from gambling, forgetting that a gambler can't recover their gambling losses no matter how hard they try.

Brother, you are talking beautifully. I can’t help but appreciate your words. We are our own biggest enemy. Every person thinks that when he loses a big loss while gambling. Then, he cannot accept that loss; when he cannot, he invests or wants to do more to recover that loss, and he thinks that he will not be at peace until he recovers that loss. He will not be able to sleep until he gets back the money he lost. Then he goes to solve the small loss and wastes all his property.

Does anyone here experience this from time to time? Because in the end, the real enemy is ourselves.
How do you control yourself and do the right thing?

First, I would say that you should stop as soon as you lose. Even get rid of the thought of losing from your mind. Have you ever thought that one can win by fighting with one's own shadow?

This loss is like one's own shadow. The more you hit your shadow, the more you will get hit back from that shadow. So it is like fighting with yourself. Stop this war with yourself now, all those who are already in this war.

I always read that when we’re losing big, we should stop to avoid losing even more. But deep inside, if you still have money left, it’s like you want to chase your losses as it feels like you can’t sleep unless you gamble again and try to recover.

Does anyone here experience this from time to time? Because in the end, the real enemy is ourselves.
How do you control yourself and do the right thing?

I don't have a problem with this scenario... I know I will play until I hit zero balance. Depending on the mood and balance left I will probably buy a bonus with the last money or I will place some sports bet with more games & higher odds. After all, when I make a deposit I know it's money for gambling and I am ready to spend it...

But I hate myself when I don't stop when I am winning & more than multiply my deposit. I feel like an idiot after that, but what's the point in crying over spoiled milk?

I think those who are gambling for profit making are the ones who find it very difficult to stop when they're in a losing streak because after considering the amount of money they have spent so far in gambling at this point giving it a break May not be the best option for them, instead they will keep gambling hoping that some day that they are going to recover from all their loses, without knowing that the more they keep gambling that's the More they are losing more money. You know applying self control in this stage is always very difficult which is why we don't need to get hooked Before we will think of applying self control.

This is human nature. I have a few times bet all I have due to repeated loss. The more I lost the reckless my bet became. Even though I was like 70% back from my bet, I still kept going ultimately losing everything. I did have budget set for loss but in rage, no self made boundaries stopped me.
To control yourself is the hardest thing and when you start gambling, you may resist and be able to stop rage betting for years, it might come anytime when you least expected. It's like drug addiction but stronger and lasts longer.

Because it's already wrong in the first place, hence it's hard to stop.

Before we're losing big, we're losing medium, before we're losing medium, we're losing small, which mean there's a process before we reach big. In gambling, it's advisable to use small amount of money, if you lose control over your money management, it's not surprising you will make more mistake.

The most important thing is, never try to broke your rules regardless how big or small it is.

No, it is not a good decision to recover your losses with the rest of your money. That will make you lose all of your money and make you more regret than before. If you already lost in gambling, you must take yourself out from the casino and not even think about recover the losses. You have other chances to gambling but not for chase the losses because that will still difficult for you.

I experienced that before but I don't want to see myself look like that so I am trying to learn about controlling myself. Yes, I realize that our real enemy is ourselves so I must be able to control myself especially in gambling.

I just remind that gambling is not something too serious and I only need to have fun and not use too much money. Winning and losing the money is usually happen in casino so we must understand and accept the result.
