Some people buy Bitcoin and they hold for a long time so that when the price push up, they will sell and rejoice in profit, while some people are trading Bitcoin, they are buying and selling almost instantly to get profit on a short time. I really want to know whom you guys refer to as investors, is it a person that buys and keeps buying through out the bear season with his intention to sell in bull market season OR you refer investors as the person that trade Bitcoin repeatedly for short time profit? Can both of them be seen investors and for what reason?
The word investment simply means to put your money into something that would generate a larger amount for you in the future. Those that hold are actually investors, they buy Bitcoin and keep for 3 to 5 years and sell afterwards when they have made a large amount of money, some might say that those that trade are also investors but I don't think that's really accurate. People who are into trading mostly trade to make profit instantly, the real investors don't find short term profits, An investment is made for the future not the present.

Charles already made a clear difference but then let me add my 2 cents opinion: Traders are gamblers... in gambling you don't want for your risk to get mature you are even afraid it may go against your odds immediately same as trading you don't spend much time on its but hang around watching it sometimes not even up to a day (24hrs) while investors even take decades to reap or even take the profit.
Hence the clear difference is there a trader is no investor and investors can be a trader but a trader is not an investor. it's not Viz vice not vice versa.
You are absolutely correct that is the real truth about it, because the difference is quite clear just like as you mentioned that is it. Traders are just gamblers they do monitor the market every often to no whether they can cash out or not since is a short time period. Why investors always have target of long term investment regardless of the market price they would just keep on buying and holding for future purposes.

I disagree with this. Do you want to make short term profits? Not only you, any of us want to make quick, short-term profits or to put it bluntly, everyone wants to get rich quickly. But we realize that it is very unlikely and quite risky so we accept to be long term investors, but if the market suddenly grows rapidly, bitcoin skyrockets and brings huge profits in a short time. We all take profit even though our previous plan was to hold for long term, are we investors in this case? Investing simply means putting money into something and expecting to get returns, it has nothing to do with timing as it depends on market fluctuations and the investor's strategy. Traders are also investors and use short term strategies, they can be called short term investors or speculators.

The term Investor in relation to Bitcoin can be applied to many different people with different approaches.
For me Buying and HODL'ing for a long time isnt the only qualifying means for an investor. The miners and Node runners are also investing in Bitcoin by making the network useable and secure. The developers are massively invested in Bitcoin too!
Everyone else like traders, service providers like exchanges, hardware wallets and mining hardware are all invested into Bitcoin in their own way!
Day traders if that's all they do may not be investing as it always be converted to cash. But if the day trader is managing to make his btc stack grow I would say he is investing in BTC

Things like this have been discussed before, but there are still people who question whether a trader is an investor or not. The answer is clear, the trader is not an investor. Usually the trader is only based on short -term trading, whether it is a scalping or swing trading. And they use tools such as Moving Average, RSI, MACD, etc., to be able to make decisions on their trade. As well as monitoring the market continuously to see the difference between the purchase and selling price. It is different compared to investors who look more in the long run, and they invest only based on the potential of these assets—and they use more fundamental analysis to see market movements.

I understand that traders may not really be regarded as investors since most of them only seek instant profits without having an investor mindset. However, I still wish to know who made the rule that investments must be long-term before they qualify as investments? Mind you, we still have short-term investors; everything just boils down to investment goals. Even in the crypto space, there are people who only want to make money as soon as the price appreciates. Their approach could be short-term, lasting a few days, weeks, or months, or long-term, as they are willing to wait until they achieve their desired returns. Where do we place them—traders or investors? Arguing about whether traders are investors will cause a very long debate. Let everyone be who they think they are. In the end, the goal of both strategies is to make a profit.

When I think about what an investor is, I picture someone like me buying bitcoin and just sitting on it for years. I'd hold onto it, waiting for that moment way down the road when the price shoots up and then i'd cash out with a big smile. It's all about playing the long game, believing in the future of crypto and not sweating the daily ups and downs. Traders, though? They're a different breed. i see them jumping in and out of the market all the time, buying low and selling high, chasing those quick profits that add up fast if you've got the knack for it. For me, being an investor feels calmer, like I'm planting a seed and letting it grow over time. Traders, on the other hand, are always on their toes, riding the waves of those wild price swings. I guess in a way, we're both part of the same crypto world, putting our money where our beliefs are. But while I'm dreaming of that big payoff years from now, they're out there making moves every day. Honestly, i admire how they handle the stress, I'd probably lose sleep watching the charts that close! Still, whether you're holding tight like me or flipping coins like them, we're all betting on this crazy market in our own way.

Of course, traders are a type of investor because their money is involved. They invest or buy one of the coins using their own money. And try to sell them at higher prices. Since they first buy a coin with their own money, it is definitely an investment. But this is a short term investment. Holdings are long-term investments. And those who do trading make short term investments. Both are investments. Because investment is when someone uses his money somewhere for the purpose of profit. It does not matter whether he invests for short term or long term. investment is always investment Yes it is true where profit is made using money it is called investment. And the investment can be of different types, it can be short term or long term and it can be for just a few hours. Trading can be considered as an investment. But it is very risky. It is better to refrain from trading as there is a high probability of loss in this investment. Because no one can predict the future even for a minute with a guarantee. However, long-term future can be predicted by various analyses. So even though trading is an investment, it is very risky. But long term investment is always profitable

It is actually quite easy to distinguish between investors and traders. Investors target long term profits storing and accumulating assets that are considered promising such as bitcoin for a period of 4/6 years then selling them when the assets provide profits according to plan. Their approach is also quite simple. Those who are called investors do not care too much about market fluctuations because their goals are long term, while traders focus on short-term profits.

You don't have to say "for me" those who understand bitcoin to the core understand that Miners are investors and not traders. They are categorize as investors. In trading there is short term and long term the same with investment. And as I said these professions as one of the commenters said, have different tools to use. Though there are times some of the tools are related like market analysis of rising and falling. Buy the dip and sell in the bull. In trading the bull is seconds, minutes, hours, days and weeks or months. But in investment the bull is months and years that is one of the biggest different. And we should not call traders as investors because they are toe different people. From a layman's perspective, anyone who puts his money into a venture with the aim of making profit is an investor. Such person could be a short, medium or long term investor. If your benchmark for a Bitcoin investor is keeping Bitcoin for a long time then some miners are not investors. I assume that some miners immediately sell the coins they mined. I suppose that there are miners who are short term Bitcoin investors because they don't hodl mined coins for a long time. I agree, we shouldnt paint all traders with the same brush, there are traders as philipma1957 points out who only trade to convert to cash and may not HODL Bitcoin for any length of time, but thats not all traders. There are definitely some who trade with a percentage of their Bitcoin HODL'ing and have possibly been doing so for many years. There is also a case that Miners and those running nodes are also trading while HODL'ing too, there may actually be developers trading too - thats certainly a possibility. Anyone who has at least an understanding of the Bitcoin basics and who believes in the future and is actively adding to the network is invested in the Bitcoin network and is looking at it for the long term.

Investors are for the long term and they only trade when they are in profit. But those that does scalp and swing trading, they're the real traders in the market. It's up to how you view both of them, they can both classified as traders since the long term investors are going to sell and they are required to trade so, therefore they're also traders. It's not actually a big matter to discuss because as long as you're in profit and if you think yourself as an investor or a trader, you're free to call yourself however you are.

Literally traders are trader while investor are traders. A trader know exactly what he is doing, typically timing the market for when to sell and when to buy an asset. While an investor is buying to hold an asset hoping to take profit after some years of investment most investors also do the mistake of taking out every small gain and investing back again from time to time. You may call such investor to be trading since he is not obeying the rules of investment.

Traders are not supposed to be called as investors. Trader is someone who betting on the risk in short term, and hoping they can get decent return without waiting so long. It's different with investors who are looking for long term value speculation from an asset through holding it.
Traders and investors are different. Although some may be arguing that investors are also doing trading activity to invest, but it's different in term of target, time line, method etc.

Yes, some may misplace a trader and an investor. Both of them purchase Bitcoin but vary with the term approach. Investors are personified with a single aim, (Buy & Hold) meanwhile traders are opportunistic with the way they access the market, they depend on analysis to get their profits, whatever they generate as profits are not coming from ATH but movements happening in the market. The multitude of traders we have are short term traders, day-in traders, or weekly, only does with large bankrolls are doing the long term trading which can take months to enter the position made on the market, this sort of trading can not be classified as investing, trading is mostly based on market fluctuations within a designated time analysis.

It is still an investment practice and they are still investors. It's just they start in a bear market and don't have too long vision for their investment and portfolio than a next bull market. Anyway there is nothing wrong with investment your money in Bitcoin and maintain it only within one market cycle.
How about those who focus only on spot trading, both in a bear and bullish market? They are just in for short-term profit; they buy and sell almost in an instant with little price change and take whatever profit they can get and reopen another trading position. Are they also considered to be investors? Or as long as you put in your money and time in return for profit, you are automatically an investor? Like you called it, Spot trading, meaning they are trading and not investing, reason being that those funds doesn't stay in one asset for long and they might be switching from one asset to the other with respect to the market dynamic. So they are trading. Spot trading carries minimal risks, since you can only loose the percentage at which the value of the asset traded against gains over your purchase price in which ever direction you anticipated. There is a risk of course to purchase assets that dumps within a short while, then heavy losses are incurred, so this spot trader cannot be called an investor

Bitcoin investors are people that bought bitcoin and leave it for months (short term investors) or years (long term investors). They do not buy and sell bitcoin instantly.
Yep. Investors won't set a short time target, they will set a target for taking profits in few months or even years. Investors usually plan for holding few years, 3-4 years at least. In this way, they can get significant profits. That's what I'm doing as well, holding for few months won't bring a very significant profits. Traders buy and sell bitcoin within short period of time like within few weeks or as short period not of time as a day, some hours or some minutes.
Traders will take profits in a short time. Even there are traders who set a target for profits daily. There are day trader, they get some profits just in a day. However, they won't get a very significant profits because the price won't fluctuate very much in a day. Commonly, traders choose altcoins with high volatility, this can bring bigger profits due to a significant price move in a day. Traders and investors are not the same, those Who buy and hold are not Traders they are investors, the Traders used to move their money and follow the markets, if the price is up they sell and wait the price goes down to buy again, while holders just keep their coins for a long term.
Very true. Investors and traders are different. They have different targets, they have different ways in selling-buying coins. Investors set a long time target, meanwhile traders set a short time target. Investors will prefer to buy during the bearish season, traders will buy at any season. Sure, traders will be more often monitoring the price move, but investors won't really care for the price move daily/weekly.

All investors are long term traders. So yes an investor is a trader but with a long term vision
You are going with the technical meanings and terms used because technically, even an investor trades when they are either buying or selling assets of their choice, but logically, an investor is different than a trader because when we say someone is an investor, we mean they intend to buy and hold an asset as an investment so that they can get capital gains when its price grows over time, whereas a trader is someone who frequently buys and sells assets to get profits on a short-term basis. You can even think of it from other businesses' perspectives. Imagine, if we are talking about a company of watches. Someone who buys and sells watches every day or week and is always in the process of doing that is called a trader. However, if someone buys specific watches, and keeps them with himself so that he can sell them when their price goes up, he is investing in watches and isn't trading them in the logical sense.

Traders are after quick profits from the market fluctuation, they can sell anytime they see little profits. Investors are those who hold their bitcoin for at least one circle and they are after long-term profits. Trading is very risky compared to investing because the market can go against you at anytime. A trader is not an investor but some traders don't know that they're traders. They call themselves investors.
But yet they are still using their money to buy and sell for the expectation of short time profit, is that not meant to qualify them as investors too because investment means when someone put in a certain amount into an asset for the expectation of ROI and what this traders are doing is also putting their money into short term investment process of Bitcoin. Investment means one thing but when it concerns Bitcoin investment people think different about it, they say that only holders are the investors but investors risk their money to get ROI, that's why I think it should just be one thing. Some one said that even miners are investors and I think it's true.

It is something you simply put your money and expect returns and the returns are just something that you expect you can not get what you always want and this is why the interest you come with matters a lot and this is what will show your progress because you have to be prepared before you can be an investor. And those that hold Bitcoin are even does that I even feel are the actual investors to because they are taking there time to actually wait for everything to actually yield because it is just as if you are planting and you are waiting for the crop to actually produce but this one takes longer. This is more reasons why I prefer older than traders because trading comes with a lot of risk that people will not see able to control starting from there emotions. But are investing since you will get something in return. So they are all investment. It just depends if you are getting something in return or not.
