Press board issues. New mod needed?

Quick thought about the Press board: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=77.0

The idea behind it was to keep track of mainstream media hits relating to Bitcoin, when the whole project was new and growing in popularity.
Now, that Bitcoin is already established and pretty much mainstream, you could argue whether or not we still need that board.

In my opinion, it could still serve a good purpose of providing an overview of the current sentiment of the mainstream media towards Bitcoin, but, for that, it would require some moderation and clearer rules, i.e. only press hits from notable sources that ARE NOT dedicated crypto-news portals (e.g. CoinDesk, CoinTelegraph etc). Otherwise, it'll be just a spam box with topics linking to multiple daily articles from crypto-news sites (like it is now).

The current moderator is Jeff Garzik, who has left the forum years ago. So maybe it's time to assign a new one.

I'd argue the board is almost dead because of the spam. Before archiving the entire board, it would be good to get rid of the spam. I'd love to see a few Notable press hits each month, but even if they're posted nobody sees them because CoinTürk fills most of the pages with spam.

I think you're about six years late with your question.

Although I'm not a frequent visitor to this board, I feel that much of the news that passes through the forum is news from portals dedicated to crypto.

This is not to question the quality and reliability of these portals, but we see that much of this content is repeated (with different titles) and does not present anything new. So the board really isn't working as it should. Be a place for real news, and not just clickbait (as is the case with many of these portal articles).

I think it makes sense for the forum to have a news site, especially related to Bitcoin, to generate a historical record of Bitcoin events. I don't know if it makes sense to create a new board or clean this one.

But, taking into account the confusion that has been going on for years, perhaps the best solution is to create a new board with this more refined objective. And put this board, as a subboard, with another name, just so that this information is not lost completely.

I agree. I've never accessed the board in the last few years, and when I had several years ago, it was full of spam, and still is. Although it may sound like a good idea, no one even bothers to check that section of the forum, and those who post there just copy-paste links and articles with zero feedback. On top of that, the Bitcoin discussion board pretty much serves this purpose as well, for anything related to Bitcoin at least. I don't think there's any need to revive this section, archiving it might be for the best.

Although I also do not visit this thread, I never thought that the forum should provide such privileges for one user who regularly posts news from his source. He does not do it selflessly. Advertising his site and attracting visitors come before the idea of ​​​​sharing Bitcoin news. However, we mark such posts in reports as spam or advertising. How is this user, who occupied this board, different from the rest? If you look at his merits, then users don’t particularly thank him; one can say: At all not. Actually there are so many SEO spammer on Press board. Aside from that user, chmod755 actually have created far more SEO spam thread. I don't know why moderator haven't nuked all of those accounts, when coinidol shill got nuked in past.

It's true that the user doesn't contribute anything meaningful to the forum, rather advertising his site in that board. But I also think it's not a problem because people rarely visit that board.
The reasons I voted for the board to remain are;
1. Those old inactive boards like press and meet up, give this forum that old vibe and could make this forum be used as a general archive for the whole crypto community.
2. If signature displays there, it could be deactivated just like serious discussion board.

Moderators act on the basis of reports, and I'm pretty sure that maybe no one reacts to all that spam anymore. In the past, the situation was completely different, that's why the reaction of the mods was also different. I personally gave up reporting on that board when the unhandled reports started piling up.

I'm similar opinion like others - it's obsolette thing. Not saying that it should be archived - we can keep it as we have now.
Ok, it's possible to appoint dedicated mod, make rules more clear, but IMO, simply there is no interest in Press board, big part of forum users probably don't even know about such thing or never visit it.

I don't remember last time I visited Press board, and I think majority of news and press articles moved to main Bitcoin board, that turned into one big Everything-board
I don't think adding new moderator would solve the problem, maybe we should just close that board for good due to lack of genuine activity.

That’s one board I visit like a tourist, almost never in many months but, I think the forum is deserving of such space for such content and it clearly shouldn’t be left without moderation as there would be lots of spam that would shadow quality information. Though, most user depend on third party sites for their news which makes the board a not so active one, should it come under good moderation and only information from verified sources are allowed there, it would revitalize the board entirely.

I believe this reason/point can be achieved, even if press board is archived. People still can see it as "Archival" child board.

Sometimes silence and inaction speak for themselves, and it sends a very clear message to those who are clearly trying to fight windmills and then finally get the message and give up. Those of us who have been there for a long time remember that that board used to be a really good source of information, and it could still be today if there was more will and determination.

The board is about news. What else do we expect from that board anyway?

I say instead of deleting the board, we should encourage more “spammers” who’ll post their links. Other news website owners should post their links too. Every once in a while I notice an interesting topic. Some of those topics  attract some organic discussion as well. It rarely happens but still better than creating a topic about some other thing we have discussed a million times before. (How to store seed words, gamble responsibly etc etc)

When you think about it, the press board should be one of the main boards where people discuss their ideas. If nothing new happens in the world, then there is pretty much nothing to talk about.

The majority of the posts in the forum are spam anyway. At least press spammers aren’t hiding what they are doing.
