Today have discovered sMerits - what if...

What if these merits could be valuable sats? Even is 1s Merit = 1 sat, the value is not important, it's more about using bitcoin. Maybe is my influence coming from other platforms, however I believe there would be great value on exchanging and sending real sats to valuable users and interesting contents.

It doesn't sound to me like it has been explored before but I see it as much sense as proposing that a merit be worth a turd. Also I think the latter would be more in line with the forum rules, as the only thing that is explicitly forbidden by theymos is the buying and selling of merits and giving them a value would bring them very close to it.

You're talking about another forum, which is stacker.news

In that forum, the thread are shown up on the first page are based on the combination of number of satoshis received and time created. Then the post will be sorted from highest to lowest received satoshis, if you want to make post, you have to pay satoshis.

I'd not integrate the same system as in stacker news, just a way to give "real" value to BF merits. Is just a use case I've been thinking, for example if a ruser produce great and constructive conversations atm is earning merits, I think it could earn sats too! Why not... maybe worth exploring, and that's why I shared it.

I noticed here onchain is a thing, it's great! It could be interesting to integrate LN or Ecash somehow

Mmm, I see the issue on start selling merits. Well, I've seen around here people selling accounts! So is that not the same? They could be sold because the merits points atm are not peg to anything. At the moment are peg with sats, no one would sell an account ever.

I mean better than those infinite pMerits! That was fun though...

It also become a way to onboard people to bitcoin, so those that are gettings some sats would need to figure out how to cashsats-out

Why you people using altcoinstalks to propose something on this forum? Know that this forum is far better than altcoinstalks. If you are good and earn merit, you will join a signature campaign if you want to and that is enough.

I don't know if stacker news run signature campaign in their own forum, but I believe that the merit system is cool the way it is rather than giving sats instead of merit, because merit is useful for you to participate in a signature campaign which you can also earn some funds in bitcoin at the end of every week. Different forum..different system.

...because merit is useful for you to participate in a signature campaign which you can also earn some funds in bitcoin at the end of every week. Different forum..different system.

Hello and welcome to the forum, I see you are a new user. Let me tell you that as an idea it might sound great but counterproductive for the forum, turning Merits into some sort of reward would only exponentially increase spam on this forum. The Merit system was not designed for this purpose but rather for something else and it's best to leave it as it is, it works great!
Rather if one should propose a change, I would ask to review the values that determine a rank, lower them and insert additional new ranks beyond legendary, but it's not that essential honestly.

The forum is not a post to earn or move to earn platform where you post and earn certain amount unlike other social app, I know this idea is coming from other social app where you create content to earn as people gives you like, such as FB, X, IG ( you wanting to turn merits to something like that right?) which I think is not possible and the forum rules highly prohibit exchanging of merits for something sat or dolls.
So, I don't see this to add any value to platform rather merits abuse and selling is what it will encourage which isn't encourageable by theymos.

Each forum has its own rules and from what has been learnt here, we don't trade for merit and cant be sold or bought for any reason, you receive it free and it has no any significant value in terms of buying and selling, so lets not go towards that direction by comparing our own forum to others.

Also, talking about opportunities, even as the forum kicks against the abuse use of the merit system, i think there are other advantages and benefits which we stand to receive from being a member of this forum, such could be to advertise yourself or services you rendered, meet new people around the world and also have some opportunities of earning bitcoin or any other crypto by your participation in campaigns or contest and you're fine than waiting to gather up sats in unapproved manner.

I cannot see the purpose of the thread. Look at this from a different perspective, what if 1 merit was worth $100? These are pointless questions that literally serve no purpose. If merits were to equate to sats, who is going to pay for the conversion? What benefit will the member that converts (the merits to sats) get in return?

Merit and sMerit (sendable merit) in bitcoin forum does not have anything related to Bitcoin or your bitcoin spending or using. I can not think of any valid reason how you think using Bitcoin has relations with merit or smerit.

About merit and smerit, you can read about them in Merit & new rank requirements and FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit.

Merit and sMerit only works in Bitcointalk and only sMerit can be sent. Both of them are not tradeable.

AG0RA, Charles-Tim is not asking you what "Sat" Means, you made a statement on the OP that said "Maybe is my influence coming from other platforms" And from what I understand from that statement, it means that you came up with this idea or suggestion based on what you have witnessed in another platform or forum. If that was same thing that Charles-Tim understood, he was making reference to the  Altcoinstalks and their coins forum, he is not referring to alt coins.

You didn't mention the platform that you got this idea from, knowing that it is only the Altcoinstalks forum that gives users points that can be converted to their own token, I also thought that you were referring to the ATT forum. Every forum or platform has their different system that they want uses and this forum decided to use merit system without the Sat that you are talking about, the forum own has reasons for everything they introduce here and knows which will be easy and better. This forum must not operate the way other does.

This is a total nonsense, and I am 100% against it.
Merit system is abused even now when merits have no monetary value, and I can only imagine what would happen if that would change.
Some people even started trading worthless bitcoin testnet coins, they even advertised their ''exchnages'' in forum, so I am sure they would also list merits.

He must have gotten the idea from that other forum or not, but from the response he gave when he quote a reply to your comment he didn't sound like he even knew any forum called Altcoinstalks because I saw that you mentioned Altcoinstalks in your comments but he thought you were referring to Altcoin currencies.

On this other thread that you mentioned here, the idea was also gotten from the same forum that we are still talking about. Some people did not realize that every forum has its unique features, they don't expect the forum to be the same.

No offense, as you've already viewed it yourself, it is total nonsense, you are mistaken convertible/redeemable points for a mere appreciation to a post. The merits here are something similar to the normal social media Likes/Loves, the difference is that they are powerful, and without them, no one can grow in rank on the forum. It was just done that way to avoid spamming and worthless posts on the forum.
