That's not a disadvantage of gambling, that's someone having greed. I look differently about this topic, I think that the disadvantage of gambling is that it triggers our reward center and increases dopamine levels, which, in mentally weak people, causes addiction. Those who have mood disorders and low self-control, easily become addicted because of this!
I can't think about any other disadvantage of gambling. I think that anything that comes from gambling, is the problem of the person and not of the gambling as a process. No one asks you to deposit more than you can afford to lose, no one forces you to gamble, no one ruins your relationships or mental health, it's you in the end who doesn't know how to get fun or what to do with life.

In my life I have heard a lot of advice on gambling from very different people, but I began to apply some of them only after I faced major losses due to the wrong attitude to gambling and his greed. I agree with that. I do not expect too much from gambling anymore. I do look forward to doubling the amount I bet, but not doubling the whole capital. For example, I have a $100 capital and just betting $5 in sports, I would only expect to win the bet amount, but making it to $200 will take a very long time. Sports betting is also unpredictable, and there's no crystal ball that would tell an accurate result of the game, which is why we are still predicting the outcome of the game. That means losses can still happen anytime, and doubling the capital is not that easy.
