If you are a single bitcoin investor, would you rather teach a trusted family member about Bitcoin than involve your personal lawyer. I ask this because I grew to understand that lawyers are good at handling confidential issues like Wills.
with the way bitcoin is designed, how could you even think of trusting a lawyer to have access to your bitcoin, what are your family members there for? In my opinion your family Is best option to have access to your bitcoin and not a lawyer, lawyer can be involved when you have hudge amount of money in your bank accounts and physical properties and not bitcoin.

This is very important because not everyone can be trusted these days. A lawyer plus an important role to help in keeping will and making sure they’re shared as instructed by the deceased, then when it comes to bitcoin tht is very secretive and needs some passphrase or private key to be accessible in a wallet, you have to be more careful with the lawyer you’ll entrust such will to. Family members can also be a good choice to tell about it, but then, you wouldn’t want the will to be tempered when you’re still alive, so that makes it even difficult to entrust it to a family member especially the one you don’t trust fully in their ways.

I will still rather disclose it to a family member because in the end, they own the will. I could make sure they don’t get to have access to it until when I’m no more. It is very privacy conscious, so that can be handled with them as such as a lawyer can also do it. The main motive is that it gets to the hands of those rightful of it which there is no assurance through a lawyer but with a beneficiary family member of it, it could at least serve its purpose. I will chose a family member over a lawyer and that’s indisputable in my case.

Heavily depends on the family in question.

Not everyone has good relationships with them.

Bitcoin doesn't need anyone to handle it for you. The security and its safety lie on you. You can choose or not to will it to anyone. Willing it to family relatives is optional, not compulsory. You don't need a lawyer for that; it is between you and the person you are trusting your seed phrase to. If he or she is worth trusting your seed phrase with.

I always say you should consider people on their individual level and not on the title they carry. Be it a family member or a lawyer, they are all humans and because of your relationship with them you must have observed some personal attributes that will make them trustworthy to safe keep your investment for you in your absence, or not.
Funny enough do you know that some friends can actually be trusted better than family members or lawyers? Some lawyers are criminals hiding behind the law.
you can even trust strangers on the internet seeing as you are asking an advice here as well

at the end of the day you are the one to make a decision and other people's advice should only prove as a guide and not something definitive, so whichever advice resonates the most with you should be what you should follow
Yes, this is true on which you are the ones will really be that making up such decision in the end of the day and its recommended that you do stand up into something on which you do seem that its viable for you.
When trusting up someone then it will be that most likely that your family member will be your own choice, except if there would be some conflicts in between the it might that having that kind of approach on things
on where you do end up on having to trust a lawyer on which this isnt that a bad thing as well. It will be that up to you because you are the ones who do made out adjustments on what are the things that needs up to consider. So it will be that up to you on where you do seems that beneficial for you and something that will be that getting in line with the safety of your coins. It is just that too impossible that you cant be able to determine on which one will be that having more security but actually this is a hard stuff because you are in torn between choosing your own family on which we know that we dont like for our coins to be lost in void once we do passed away and would rathe preferring for it to be put up in good use.

In a case of a will, the beneficiary and the lawyer are both aware of the will. The lawyer alone won't know about the will, even though he might know the content of the will.
The same can be applied to Bitcoin, both the lawyer and the family member can know about the Bitcoin you hold. To make it safer, the seed phrases of the address can be stored in a place that will require both the lawyer and the family member to access in case of the death of the owner. Maybe sometime like a safe deposit box.

A lawyer job is required to settle real life disputes like distribution of property among legal hires after a person expires. There are laws to tackle such disputes and lawyer service is hired because he understand the law.
In case of Bitcoin, there are not many countries where Bitcoin is legalised. If you are from one such country then don't give access of your Bitcoins to lawyer or any other person not in your family. If you have a family with wife and children then handover them the seed and other important stuff that they can use to access after the owner is no more in this world.

Bitcoin is very precious because of its high value in the present, which could even grow more in the future. So why would I'll entrust it to a lawyer which is not part of the family when I can teach my own family member about the high potentials of bitcoin, enough that it could create a big difference in someone's lives.

Bitcoin is totally different from fiat and those investment properties. We don't need to involved a stranger to keep and manage our bitcoin when we can entrust it to someone who is more capable and who can be more trusted when it comes to life-changing investments.

I would trust my immediate family member.

I will teach a family member. The family member must be an immediate family member that I have known all my life. We can build generational wealth through this if everything is built on solid principles. In reality it is not all family members that are at war with themselves. It is not all of them that are have trust issues. Some family members can actually be trusted to keep a secret.

The world has made it look that everything is all about money but there are family bonds that transcends beyond money.

I would prefer to teach an immediate family member, preferably my sibling, rather than granting a lawyer access to my Bitcoin asset. Funny things happen these days, so one just needs to be careful., and Bitcoin is not like the fiat system where there are legal processes one would need to pass through to claim assets belonging to their loved one in the bank or so then why would it be so in a digital era when it is as easy as we could imagine to hand over assets to our loved ones without any third party interference etc.  Involving a lawyer is definitely the least thing I would think of doing. What the lawyer could do is to make sure my will is strictly adhered to as I have instructed.

I think in this case it will trigger a lot of pros and cons because after all it depends on each perspective and view.

In addition, I think we also realize that things like this depend on our situation and conditions because we certainly know how the character of the closest person or maybe it could be your partner which can be a benchmark whether you will choose the closest person or even a lawyer.

But for me, if in the end I am placed with a choice like this then my answer is that I will prioritize my partner before the lawyer. The reason is quite simple because right now I trust my partner and I know what my partner's nature is like, even though it might be risky and I can't deny something like that but in the end risks like this ultimately have to be taken right? because in this case even though we have to be careful but that doesn't mean we have to generalize and not trust a partner who we even know what his nature is like even though maybe this can change at any time but as long as I trust I have no problem with it.

People are bound to change, the lifestyle and decision of some people are not constant irrespective of who they are to you or the kind of profession the person has. Lawyers can change due to the desire to convert your wealth to theirs, even your most trusted family member can also betray your trust. situations have arise where trusting people that were meant to be trusted was the biggest mistake. But if a situation arise where I will have to chose who to trust, it would be my family members, it's better that a love one is in possession of the asset than a stranger who can vanish unnoticed.

I think the answer to this question probably depends on how much control you want to have over your coins when you’re gone. If you hand the responsibility to your lawyer, they will follow your wishes and do what you want. If you ask a family member, they will do what they want and decide what they want your legacy to be, which more often than not just happens to align with what will be most beneficial to them.

Bitcoin is not fiat that that you have in banks. Bitcoin is designed in a way that you do not need a lawyer. If properly done, bitcoin inheritance will not be a be problem. With bitcoin, you do not need to trust anyone, including your lawyer.
It's easy as you said but passing Bitcoin as inheritance is really a big problem to me. Reason I said this is that, it is necessary you let your family know you have Bitcoin in your possession Incase of emergency or if death nock on your door, but if you decide to let your family member/ your spouse to have access to your holdings they may decide to move your fund while you are even alive. If you also entrust your seed to your lawyer, he may decide to withdraw your Bitcoin without your family knowing about it, especially after the owner is dead.

Nothing is perfect and every solution has its pros and cons, the point is we need to choose what type of risk we will face. Even not sharing bitcoins with anyone is a kind of risk and that risk is that if something unexpected happens, our loved ones will not be able to use the assets we leave them.

For me, I would choose the solution of trusting my loved ones, I would rather leave money for them to use than let it disappear with me and go to waste. My family is protective and willing to sacrifice for each other, I think putting faith in them is worth more than any other solution.

I would rather start a family, get married and entrust the money to next of kin.

Might sound traditional but it is the basic methods that humans have invented since a long time back to safeguard their assets by teaching the next of kin and handing over the baton.

Dont go forward in civilization just to go backward in reality. Lawyers have a different role indeed they may be needed in the process but trust is something is from the family not an outsider.

If you are a single bitcoin investor, would you rather teach a trusted family member about Bitcoin than involve your personal lawyer. I ask this because I grew to understand that lawyers are good at handling confidential issues like Wills.

I think we are very loyal friends of family members, especially parents and your spouse. So I think you can share your valuable assets i.e. BTC with your family. If you want to share these things with a lawyer, then you will have to face legal complications.

In that case, the first thing I can mention is: Bitcoin is not legal in all countries of the world. If someone leaves a will, then if there is any problem later, no legal action can be taken against him.

Secondly, I think there are some written matters in making a will of property (which have to be written) and witnesses are also needed behind it. In this case, if we want to will our Bitcoin in writing, then we have to follow a legal process where there should be an explanation of all the matters including the reason and there should be multiple witnesses. In that case, if the witness is very talented, then he can memorize your seed phrase if he wants.

Which can later be a threat to the preservation of Bitcoin. So I will prioritize my family first so that my matters remain private without any mishap

Nothing is perfect and every solution has its pros and cons, the point is we need to choose what type of risk we will face. Even not sharing bitcoins with anyone is a kind of risk and that risk is that if something unexpected happens, our loved ones will not be able to use the assets we leave them.
Having plans for accidents that might come in future and out of our control is very good because if we want our bitcoins to be inherited by anyone or any foundation or organization, we must prepare for it. Without any inheritance plan, if we suddenly pass away or any kind of accident that causes unconsciousness or unawareness or memory loss, our bitcoin will lose forever and no one can access it.

About solutions
Quote
For me, I would choose the solution of trusting my loved ones, I would rather leave money for them to use than let it disappear with me and go to waste. My family is protective and willing to sacrifice for each other, I think putting faith in them is worth more than any other solution.

I would rather start a family, get married and entrust the money to next of kin.

Might sound traditional but it is the basic methods that humans have invented since a long time back to safeguard their assets by teaching the next of kin and handing over the baton.
I agree with you both, that I'd like to go first with my loved people and lawyer is my last choice if my favorite choice can not work like I have noone to give them that inheritance information about my wallets and backups.

Lawyers in theory have to obey a contract and law but they certainly can break the contract and law by doing illegal things. I can not trust lawyer and I would prioritize my loved people for this inheritance and sensitive information.

Dont go forward in civilization just to go backward in reality. Lawyers have a different role indeed they may be needed in the process but trust is something is from the family not an outsider.

And if such trust doesn't go through and or isn't nourished.. then yeah, there are plenty of choices to take in that case.

Why not let emergency fund be in fiat? Emergency fund is different from inheritance. There is nothing hard about inheritance. Go and learn about multisig as some people use it for inheritance purpose but in a way that it is only setup in a way only one person will not have full control. You can read about time lock also. Even a single signature wallet is enough if done correctly with a better approach.
