If you are a single bitcoin investor, would you rather teach a trusted family member about Bitcoin than involve your personal lawyer. I ask this because I grew to understand that lawyers are good at handling confidential issues like Wills.

The duty of Lawyer is to ensure wills are followed strictly, but leaving your bitcoin totally in the hands of a lawyer is entrusting it to a third party totally which is wrong, additionally leaving it in the hands of only a family member poses the risk of him taking all your funds when you are gone. A good option might be creating a multi-sig wallet, let the family member be part of it as well as your lawyer, that way the family member cannot take it all for themselves and the lawyer must ensure your will and distribution formula is strictly followed before he authorizes transaction.

Bitcoin is not fiat that that you have in banks. Bitcoin is designed in a way that you do not need a lawyer. If properly done, bitcoin inheritance will not be a be problem. With bitcoin, you do not need to trust anyone, including your lawyer.

Is this leaving the wallet to the lawyer themselves or something? Lawyers are able to handle wills because they only enact on it. They don't "temporarily" get ownership of the assets. Bitcoin doesn't have anything like that, so it seems reaaally dumb to let them have access to it just like that. I reckon just leaving a message is more than enough though. Like instructions in your will on how to access your wallet or something. As for leaving access to a family member, well, Don't really like the idea personally.

The only impact of a lawyer is to keep your assets secured and guided by laws as a judiciary. So you can imagine in a state where bitcoin is legal, that means the essence of trusting you lawyer with it is void. Talking about bitcoin as a digital asset, this has lot of loopholes that one can be vulnerable and extremely faced with risks to the lost of it without being known of the executor. That means your lawyer can as well rebel you with your entrusted bitcoin and you won't even know. So that is where it comes very difficult to trust anyone with your bitcoin. But if I must suggest, in a critical time where you have to have a third party for security sake, a family member is better preferred because the lawyer will have not special service to offer to the security of your bitcoin if not just have to keep it off from scammers which is an equivalent role of you and a family member can just do. For legal protest when your funds is being unwarranted comprise, only the authorities can take decisions of it outcome.

It depends. Is your family member someone accomplished enough to be taken advice from? Plus what would a lawyer know about crypto? Maybe if the topic was something about personal finances and how you will handle it then go for the lawyer. They are professionals and have no personal agenda other than to help you.
Now what happens if your family member is a lawyer? Lol

It is very subjective and depends on your individual situation and on your relationship with your family members. Personally, I wouldn't trust a lawyer with super confidential information but I will trust my parents with it. But when it comes to inheritance related matters, a lawyer needs to be consulted. So it all depends on what you want to achieve. Under normal circumstances, I would stay away from Lawyer, police and political persons as they are not to be trusted.

Since we cannot tell if the person that you are leaving your private keys is to be trusted be it your lawyer or a family member, it's better for you to use time lock as a way to pass on your bitcoin to your heir. When you use time lock, there is a particular time that your heir will have access to your bitcoin when the time that you det reaches. You can also use block height to lock your bitcoin and no one will be able to have access to it until bitcoin block height reaches the block that you fix it. If you use multisig wallet, what if one of them dies before time or lose his memory. You can read this thread from LoyceV for proper understanding on time lock https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5180850.0

I don't think it's a good idea to give your lawyer access to your bitcoin as you will it to your family. Lawyers when they hold wills, they literally only have it in their custody but under the law they will not be able to exploit your wills. But with such as bitcoin, if the lawyer decides to do away with your funds after one passes away, there isn't going to be a way to even know of it's existence. Your family might have no idea what BTC even is at that time and will not bother to ask if such property. Fact is don't give anyone access to your funds aside your family members. And it has to be someone you trust very well.

Just because someone is a lawyer doesn’t automatically make them trustworthy. You still need to carefully select a reliable lawyer, just as you would choose whom to trust within your own family. If you have parents, they’re likely the most trustworthy figures in your life, as they would never betray their children.
Trust should never be given blindly. If you’re holding Bitcoin, the level of authority you grant others should depend on their role. Think of it like running a business, you may trust your team, but you’d still implement checks and balances for every transaction.

i think that lawyers can be more objective and since they have studied certain areas well it is safer to say that they would have more knowledge, experience and therefore they can advise you better family member should have your wellness in mind but they may not be as big of an expert as lawyers are

I had a similar question during a meeting. the right answer should be = NO ONE. for sure not a lawyer since these figures could have a strong advantage by known the various laws. Imagine, you pass away but lawyers use all tricks for justice to delay or deny a service. A family member could become a target of malicious users. So I would avoid to place anyone on danger. Probably if really needed, I would just setup a kind of "timelock" wallet. Multisignature or extra word seed (including also wallets like green addres) are the safest option where you need to trust no one

But what happen if your lawyer have greedy thoughts? For sure you would get a serious problem with that. Much better if you trust your Bitcoin on your trusted family member to make sure that your Bitcoin is safe and will go directly to your family if you plan to distribute it if something bad happen to you. When talking about Bitcoin I don't trust anyone including those professionals not related to me. I'd be more happy if my family could use my Bitcoin since they are the right people could able to enjoy your wealth. I know there are instances that some of our family member is greedy but if this well be handled well by trusted one for sure everything will be fine.

And that vault is trusted to a family member that you believe is trustworthy enough to handle your things in case of worst scenarios. Like it or not, whatever you have should be used by your family and not by others. Because in times of your need, you will turn to your family member to help you out from your situation. The lawyer will just only facilitate whatever you have left for your family members. Though some individuals are relying on their respective lawyers when it comes to their wealth. But at least one family member should know about this as for me, you can't trust lawyers with "the whole nine yards" that you have.

If you want to trust a lawyer, make sure you have a family who're a lawyer too. So, in case the lawyer doing something bad to you, you have someone who know about laws and sue them.
I'm not saying give the full seed phrase to the lawyer, but even you create a multisig wallet, where you, lawyer and your family hold each private key. But, after you die and your family can't find your private key, then they ask the lawyer, but the lawyer didn't give it except your family pay x amount.

I always say you should consider people on their individual level and not on the title they carry. Be it a family member or a lawyer, they are all humans and because of your relationship with them you must have observed some personal attributes that will make them trustworthy to safe keep your investment for you in your absence, or not. Funny enough do you know that some friends can actually be trusted better than family members or lawyers? Some lawyers are criminals hiding behind the law.

To me, family comes first and I do everything for them because without them, I wouldn't be where I am today. So I will always choose family and be willing to share everything and I have no problem with them holding my assets for me.
I think trusting someone depends on each person because we are not in the same situation so giving advice or imitating others is not a good idea. You need to choose the method that is right for your situation, and only you know whom you can trust the most.
But if we don't trust banks, then there's no reason to trust lawyers, and those who say they don't trust anyone, not even their own relatives. Maybe it's because there's no one around them that they can trust. Depending on each person's specific case, there will be a suitable solution .

I would go for a family member if he or she was tested with time and situations that proved they can be trusted, simple as that.

If you are a single bitcoin investor, would you rather teach a trusted family member about Bitcoin than involve your personal lawyer. I ask this because I grew to understand that lawyers are good at handling confidential issues like Wills.
Some lawyers are criminals hiding behind the law. you can even trust strangers on the internet seeing as you are asking an advice here as well at the end of the day you are the one to make a decision and other people's advice should only prove as a guide and not something definitive, so whichever advice resonates the most with you should be what you should follow
