Two of the biggest countries in the world beginning to settle trade in bitcoin?
That is huge and signals a future trend for greater bitcoin nation state adoption.

Normally countries settle trade in US dollars. You need to have dollars to buy oil from Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.
But as the dollar seems to be losing its global reserve status many countries are seeking alternatives. Bitcoin is the natural solution.
As demand for the petrodollar becomes less and less the US dollar will continue to decline and lose value.
The crazy US tariff drama doesn't help and will only accelerate the decline.

WHAT ABOUT GOLD
Gold is great as a neutral reserve asset, but is cumbersome to store, secure and ship large quantities of a heavy physical object
over long distances. That is why gold hasn't been used to settle trade in over a hundred years. That is where Bitcoin comes in.
Bitcoin has the properties of gold as a neutral asset, with many enhancements of a digital asset for the modern digital age.

Personally I don't like gold because the mining of it is greatly destructive to the environment,
a hundred times worse than bitcoin mining as I explained in my other thread.

PROBLEMS WITH THE US DOLLAR
- The dollar is controlled by a single central government so it is not neutral.
- The US govt can freeze or seize your dollar assets and holdings at any time, as history has shown.
- The US govt can debase the dollar by extreme money printing as history has shown.

BITCOIN THE OBVIOUS SOUND MONEY SOLUTION
That is why the BRICS countries formed a trading bloc as an alternative to the petrodollar.
But what can replace the US dollar for international trade? The Chinese yuan? Russian ruble? Indian rupee?
Euro or Yen? Being fiat currencies they all have the same problems as the US dollar.
Meaning they are not neutral, are centrally controlled, easily debased, can be frozen or seized in a dispute, etc.

Bitcoin is the natural solution to all these problems. If this trend catches on, and I believe it will
that is going to be huge for bitcoin adoption. It can be used to settle trade in any kind of products not just energy.
Bitcoin may or may not work so well as a payment method at the consumer level but for settling trade between countries it
should be the clear alternative to the US dollar. Bitcoin already works great as a store of value so this is just icing on the cake.

VanEck Confirms China and Russia Settling Energy Trades in Bitcoin — A Major Step in De-Dollarization
April 13, 2025

Bitcoin has become more than just a speculative asset; it is now evolving into a functional monetary tool,
especially in economies seeking to bypass the U.S. dollar and reduce exposure to U.S.-led financial systems.

Head of Digital Assets Research Matthew Sigel said in VanEck’s report released on April 8,
“China and Russia have reportedly begun settling some energy transactions in Bitcoin and other digital assets,”
a significant step that further drives the narrative of de-dollarization...continued

Lately i have been seeing coming across some new developments regarding the collaboration of Russia with China in considering the use of Bitcoin for some certain economy activities, what comes my mind is why will they both have to now consider bitcoin after all these years, yet they are not ready to adopt the same bitcoin, also avoid USD and it is obvious that they can't use their own Rubby or Yuen in making trades together except they both agrees to use bitcoin, maybe from this time henceforth, they may be getting more closer to bitcoin adoption as the case may go.

I don't think so because they use Bitcoin purely to avoid sanctions and other kinds of things that get in their way. Ultimately, China will go after Central Bank digital currencies, whereas Russia will probably explore its options, but still ultimately will see Bitcoin as a second in line.

Well, that's probably how bitcoin will be used in the future: as a means of payment between "big users" (countries and corporations). Why not?

And not as the community dreamed: buying coffee (and other small things) with bitcoin. Bitcoin has become too "big" to be used for everyday payments by regular users (commissions will increase proportionally).

Normally countries settle trade in US dollars. You need to have dollars to buy oil from Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.

We can agree on that.

Of course, such things take time and cannot change overnight. But we are already seeing big things taking place
and events happening faster than anyone ever thought.  Even the most staunch traditional US allies like Canada,
Japan and the EU are asserting independence from the US orbit.

The biggest US trading partner Canada warning its citizens not to travel to the US, their highest officials sanctioning
a national boycott of US goods and services, the Canadian PM vowing to greatly boost defense spending after US threats of annexation, etc.
That doesn't sound very pro-US to me. So much crazy stuff is happening you could never imagine happening before.

Personally I don't like gold because the mining of it is greatly destructive to the environment,
a hundred times worse than bitcoin mining as I explained in my other thread.
Then stop using your electronic gadgets (smartphones, laptops, etc.), because your use of them has already harmed the environment. Smiley
Because their creation was not done without gold.

Gold mining can't be stopped, but perhaps could be more limited to industrial uses.
Anything we do in the modern world causes harm and cannot be completely avoided.
The goal is to limit the harm done through greater awareness and education.
Bitcoin is a cleaner alternative to gold in terms of being a store of value.

Should've done it from a long time ago but some of BRICS countries despite knowing full well the benefit of using bitcoin still pretty strict on accepting BTC into their country.

I mean, where else you can find completely borderless and decentralized means of payment that can move even hundred millions of dollars worth of value easily other than bitcoin, basically the best choice there is.

Russia has been a great promoter of crypto trading but china on the other hand has been against crypto for as long as I know
It'll be a great deal if the almighty China has suddenly switch to Crypto Transaction as a country.

It simply means the sanctions and bans has been lifted and all citizens or at least the elites can conveniently engage in such trading without complications

Its a positive milestone to the crypto ecosystem.

Would be great if countries will utilize bitcoin as means of payment.  That would bring great demand and liquidity for the Bitcoin market.

And not as the community dreamed: buying coffee (and other small things) with bitcoin. Bitcoin has become too "big" to be used for everyday payments by regular users (commissions will increase proportionally).

Why not? an why too big?  Remember there are solutions for small payments using Bitcoin.  And if ever Bitcoin price really soar high, remember there is still this sub unit of Bitcoin which is satoshi.  Never forget that developers will surely utilize the use of satoshi for micropayments.  There are also centralized application that can be use for this, an internal application transaction  that cost almost nothing at all.

Normally countries settle trade in US dollars. You need to have dollars to buy oil from Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.

It is a process, slowly or fast, countries will gradually switch to Bitcoin payment once the pioneer has a good result using Bitcoin as mode of payment.

I think it would be better to have VanEck as an official source but anyways, here it is: https://www.vaneck.com/us/en/blogs/investment-outlook/our-portfolio-managers-weigh-impact-of-trumps-tariffs/

The situation is getting very interesting and I really wonder what is the TX id of the transaction that they used for trading. Trump wants to mine the rest of the coins in the United States, which in other terms, means that he wants to censor Bitcoin because if the majority of miners mine from the USA, then Trump can force them to not accept transactions he doesn't want to get accepted but it's not a huge deal either because there can always be a miner that can accept the transaction, the USA can't mine every coin, that's impossible, Trump doesn't know what he talks.

But it seems you forgot about its volatility. What happens when the value of that transaction is $1 billion, but when the transaction is completed and Bitcoin suddenly gets dumped due to manipulation, influenced by geopolitical, economic news. Bitcoin lost 10% of its value and who is responsible for these losses? I think that might be why they are not only using bitcoin but also ETH, USDT as payment methods in energy trade with China and India.

Given its decentralized nature, not controlled by any country, Bitcoin is a potential cross-border payment method but its volatility is a real barrier.

Left... the space..

China and Russia settling energy trade in Bitcoin? Huge for BTC adoption.
Yes, at least there is good Haran for the development of Bitcoin for the future, if the two countries agreed to take alternative trade with Bitcoin.

All of us understand that if the two countries adopt bitcoin, automatically increases Bitcoin users to increase, it is natural law, the government has done, so many thoughts have sprung up To use bitcoin as a trading method, such as industry and private companies and other businesses in the form of payment of services and goods.

I notice you asked the question and answered it in the same comment. Yes, there are indications of potential cooperation between China and Russia to use Bitcoin in some of their trade, but I don't understand your surprise at the delay in this step, as if someone had been waiting for this to happen for a long time.

Finally, the two countries have come to realize that abandoning the dollar will not be in favor of another currency, even the Chinese yuan or the Russian ruble; This would be like escaping one crisis after another.
Bitcoin is the only currency capable of operating efficiently, given the design of the blockchain, which makes it a powerful tool not in the hands of a single central authority. I hope that if the Russia-China plan succeeds, it will expand to include the BRICS countries, at least in the first phase.

ya, no shit. I'm not surprised if they go down that route as they should have done it already.

Bitcoin checks all the boxes as the best currency of trade. I don't think I have any problem with brics as well as other countries acquiring bitcoin for trade as long as they don't you use it to promote negativity or try to censor and control bitcoin.

This might not turn into as big of a world deal as many are thinking. Why not? Because the population of China, while large, is only 1/3 of what the experts say that it is. That's about 500 million... but it may be as low as 300 million.

Watch the video listed in the OP at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5539670.msg65319588#msg65319588 to see why this is.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Russia also banned the use of bitcoin as a domestic payment method to avoid affecting the Ruble . Obviously this is just their temporary solution to avoid sanctions from the West, they have no intention of using bitcoin long term and consider it the real solution they are looking for.

Not to mention, when using bitcoin as a means of payment for commercial transactions, the benefit they receive is only avoiding sanctions, but they will have to face the volatility of bitcoin. Bitcoin is not controlled by the US but is heavily influenced by US policies and they know that will work against them as well.

There are many problems that Russia and China will face if they use bitcoin as a payment method, the problem is not as simple as the US feeling it threatens the dominance of the USD.

That's definitely a problem when we are talking about billions, but I think they can also consider making bitcoin reserve.

Because it's not rare for a country to just keep their gold into their gold reserve when they did a trade like this, so the same thing can apply to bitcoin.

Although unfortunately we all know the chance for them to do that is low.

Let's not forget that China still bans bitcoin and crypto domestically.

Many in China buy bitcoin from peer to peer exchanges or OTC. Which is not hard to do.
There may be a ban in China but it is loosely enforced if at all.
You can't stop people from getting bitcoin. They will always find a way.
