What do people mean when they say to hold on to bitcoin? If someone wanted to spend 300k usd of bitcoin should they spend this amount as soon as they have it or wait longer until its worth a lot more than just 300k usd? How can this be determined?

When people say "hold on to bitcoin" they usually mean keeping it for a while hoping it'll be worth a lot more down the line. If I had $300k in bitcoin, I'd be really careful before spending it all espercially if I think it could get even bigger. But crypto can be such a wild ride so it's tough to figure out the perfect time to sell or use it. It really just depends on what I'm aiming for with my money and how much risk I'm cool with taking.

Nobody would forbid you to take off the creams from time to time - it's natural to do it that way, rather than going all in and converting all the BTC you've got..

But wouldnt it simply make more sense to have like maybe at least 15 million usd worth of bitcoin than just barely 300k usd to spend 300k usd worth of bitcoin because more money has accumulated just to kind of be on the safe side?

You're just getting everyone confused with your unclear questions. I mean like what are you trying to ask here? Bitcoin doesn't produce money from nowhere. Even during the market uptrend, you can only get profit based on what you invested and not expecting outrageous amount after investing a little amount. How much have you invested in Bitcoin that you're expecting at least 15 million dollars before you start spending? Investing and spending your money depends on your capacity not by fantasy where you think certain amount is more better to spend than certain amounts but you don't have the means.

I don't know why you decided to ask this kind of question, OP. Because i don't expect any member who has been in this forum for even one month  should asked this kind of question. It's funny that this account has been registered for over six months and has made over 80 posts without knowing the definition of Bitcoin or the meaning of "hold."This seems like you are not reading other people's posts and comments but just coming to the forum to post whatever you feel and whatever you want to post. How can you ask the meaning of hold on to Bitcoin? Even from the word "hold," you should have been able to understand the meaning.Again, I don't know why your question is not straightforward.By the way, the meaning of "hold on to  Bitcoin, is for someone to keep their Bitcoin without selling it for a short period of time. Also, you should know that Bitcoin is volatile in nature, meaning it is not a stablecoin. Bitcoin's value increases and decreases over time and that is why it seen as investment.

Do you have such amount of Bitcoin worth million dollars somewhere, that you intend to sell off some 300k dollar? that would be awesome. Is that what you mean? By the way, holding may be the reason why you haven't sold any of your Bitcoin so far, I'm just thinking maybe you should explain more better and release more information for us to understand and help you more clearly

You are talking about two different things entirely.

1. Holding Bitcoin is keeping it safe for future sake and future value, for some people it's a good store of value while others choose to make money out of the asset.

2. If someone have 300k its better they buy slowly, maybe start with $1000 BTC every month, this is accumulation and its different from holding, don't get it confused, buying and keeping is where the word "Hold or Hodl" comes from.

If you are accumulating, your plan must be to hold for long term until value appreciate and you can sell or decide to keep holding.

During the periods of Bitcoin decline, which were back in 24, I often bought more and bought part of it, and after that I had to set a target at which I would sell some of the coins, because I thought about, until what point am I going to hold Bitcoin?
And in the end, I set myself a goal that I would sell some of the coins at a price of 120k - 150k. But I'm not sad, because the price reached 108,000 and then rolled back, Let it grow again now. I believe that we will see the price of 200k.
