What kind of discussion is off topic.

There is something I noticed here in the Nigeria local board which I think some members are finding difficult to understand especially newbies and which is "what kind of discussion that should be off topic".
I noticed some members especially newbies will post a topic in the main Nigeria board but it will be pushed to off topic and they will be wondering why is it pushed to off topic and since there's no answers in [Rules] READ ME!! Unofficial General Guidelines For Posting( Na de koko dem) thread and also in Useful information for Nigerian newbies it will be better we address it.

From my own idea I think topics that can only remain in the main Nigeria board are when it concerns cryptocurrency in general especially Bitcoin, when it does not relate to this then it will be pushed to off topic or  Politics and society (Naija) any of these two that it fits.
However I think our moderator Sir Igebotz will throw more light on this so members and especially newbies will understand better.

I don't know if this has been addressed if it has no problem because I have not seen it.

Sometimes it's good to ask question because wetin person no know big past the person, just like as our people normally said that person wey dey always ask questions no go fit miss road na so e just dey. However, the thing be say any topics wey person create for this local board wey know consign Bitcoin or anything cryptocurrency na him be say na off topic be that. Na him make sometimes when newbies create a topic wey no get anything to do with cryptocurrency before you know it moderator go move am go off topic.

You're right because most times  so many newbies post threads that are off topics in our local board so this kind of thread will help in creating awareness that will make newbies to know what to post on this forum as the forum has rules and regulations as it concerns posting because every board has it own peculiar topics that is supposed to be posted there.


The Nigerian local board is where Nigerian on this forum post  threads basically as it concerns crypto currency which Bitcoin is the point of focus here so we post threads that will helps us better understand bitcoin in a bid to helping nigerians on the forum to solve problems that is related to Bitcoin especially in the areas of creating awareness so more people can accept the use of Bitcoin, we also discuss common problems and challenges facing the crypto community in Nigeria so anything that is not related to Bitcoin  and it promotion is considered off topic on this local board

Good question Op, this has happened to me in this board at first, when I entered my local board I was thinking of what to post,( ahbi na anything wey I know for Naija I go post, ahbi my post go concern cryptocurrency or anything wey dey happen for country?) not until I calm myself down to visit various places in Naija and also took my time to open all the pinned thread and studied them to the best of my understanding, especially these 2 threads helped me alot👇👇

There is this friend I brought into this forum and most of the thread he created was moved to off topic and he was so angry and was thinking he doesn't know anything and I told him to calm down, and explained to him that the fact they took your thread to off topic doesn't mean you don't know anything it is just that what you posted at that point in time doesn't meet the criteria to be on they local board so they have to be moved and this is how some of us still think till today and if you keep telling yourself you are not good or you don't know anything or you can not do better you will definitely get discourage and you might quit remember, giving up is not an option and this information is for those who still feel same way anything they move there thread.

The moderator in the forums first said what the newcomers should be discussed. Now those who are seniors were once new. They have reached a good level through negotiations in the Nigerian forum. So it is normal for newcomers to make mistakes. But I think they need to know about the scope of cryptocurrency. Currently, cryptocurrency has spread in almost all countries. The popularity of the world's discussion, especially Bitcoin's popularity, is quite interesting.

In the Nigerian Forum discussion, I think before participating in the forum, the essence of the forum and what issues are not discussed, which issues cannot be discussed in all forums, and some aspects need to be discussed. Therefore, newcomers should post qualified as per the rules of the forum and to take Bitcoin as well as conduct a proper investment program.

I think when you open a thread wey no dey related to cryptocurrency or linked to economy on how btc and economy dey go hand in hand whether on our local economy or international economy, then you are likely to have the option of taking it to politics and society. So as we know, there are those items that fit in that board, it is almost clear. Things wey dey happen for naija in general.

So our third sub board na off - topics and I believe they are personal things wey no concern cryptocurrency or politics and our society. Like if you want to share your thoughts about the kind of nutrition or food wey people need to dey eat to dey healthy, your personal experience on you and your friends, things that are abstract to general discussion etc. However, when they say off - topics it doesn't mean it is not useful but it doesn't really matter or contribute to the purpose of the forum.

Yes very true..at least make the topics get to do with cryptocurrency no matter the tiny tedious variations wey go dey inside the discussion too, let’s say for instance person get money to invest for crypto but since he or she never trade before then them con discover this group con raise the topic “What’s the best possible way to invest” without mentioning any form of crypto currency, is it still an off topic..?

I have also asked myself same question a number of times, but had to move on. I don't think we all need anyone to explain what the word "Off topic" means, but while personally trying to look at the context from different angle, the definition isn't fitting perfectly. Before I continue, let's just know that newbies are not the only ones that post off topic related threads on the main Naija board. Ranked members also do this, which most of them are been moved. Even this particular thread is an off-topic.

I have tried to weigh my thoughts on what an off-topic is, based on all the threads that has been moved, and the ones that are still here. Truth is, it is a bit complex.

Now, my question is
1. Are financial related threads off-topics?,
2. Are topics that relates well with Bitcoin, but touches other areas like Economy also off topics?.
3. Does this board govern Cryptocurrency in general, or just Bitcoin alone ?.

Because, if you go through the Naija board section, and the off-topic section, you might start asking the same thing. If the rules that governs none off-topics are restricted to discussing about Bitcoin alone, then I believe some topics on this main board shouldn't be here.

I believe that the admin is trying his best, and not doubt, there are good posters here, but there might be a need for a brief enlightenment if you happen to weigh the options from the main board and sub-board.

You've said it all, the fact that someone's post was moved to off-topic or politics & society doesn't mean that the person isn't smart when it comes to cryptocurrency related topics, afterall the person would still get replies and opinions from people over there so it doesn't make any difference, one's post mustn't be in the main board for it to be relevant and if you want your post to be in the main board then create important topics with messages talking about Cryptocurrencies as required in that board.

 Anyways our moderator knows best and I believe he'll address this issue soonest to ease the confusion and arguments in this thread, so for now let's wait and see what he'll say concerning the matter, maybe he might consider creating a child board for topics that are not cryptocurrency, politics & society or offtopic related.

Op i think is really a thing of concern because majority of the new forum users as find it difficult to post in local board because of how they’ve been moving his/her thread to off-topic board.

Though,it happen to me,like 3 of my threads were moved to off-topic,when i noticed it, i felt bad. But as some point,even as it was moved Ii was still getting good response and feedback from that thread.
After some months it occur to me that bitcoin or cryptocurrencies related thread is what they need from this Naija board,by going through other user threads and discussions it was strictly on bitcoin talk.

If you feel shy to ask question in the forum maybe where you’re getting it wrong,at your convenience go through all the thread and post in each board,i think with that you will know the kind of thread or discussion each board requires,so as to avoid making  a right post in a wrong place.

We only have two sub-boards and one main board: Main (Bitcoin/crypto related), Politics/society, and Off-topic- if a topic does not relate to the first two sub-boards, it is automatically moved to the Off-topic sub-board. Topics being moved to Off-topic does not imply that the topic is of low quality, and one is against anyone from posting on Off-topic discussions if you found anyone interesting.

E.g "Gambling related topics" are off-topic, "personal life experience" are off-topic, "how to code/programming" are off-topic, "personal love stories " are off-topic, "life hacks" are off-topic.... More.

If your topic(s) is moved to off-topic, it does not mean you are a bad poster; we just do not have the board space to accommodate all topics right now.

Your explanation is very clear and I understand more better and I also strongly believe other members who has been having issues with this are now more clear on it, those who sometimes feel that there topics posted are of low quality that was why it was shifted to off topic will now understand better because I know some newbies has used because there topics are always moved to off topic and stop posting topics on this our great and interesting local board.
I will like to commend you Sir Igebotz for being a very hard working moderator in the Nigeria local board always attending to every issue no matter how little it is and for always making sure that members follow the rules and regulations of the local board and the forum in general.

Apart from dis our local board you no fit to carry traditional practices for your village go start thread for Bitcoin discussion board or altcoin discussion board, e no go make sense. Di forum de very organized and e get sections for every type of discussions, na for person wey want to start topic to know where wetin im want to start go fit in. Off-topics are clear. You come to the main local board page and if you actually try to read through, you would understand that it basically focuses on things concerning bitcoin accumulation, promulgation, laws, views, cryptocurrency trends and all other crypto related news and updates. Creating a topic about your personal life in the general board is already an off topic and even those that do it know fully well but because they want their topics to exist in the focal point where almost everyone that comes to Naija Local board would see it first and contribute.

During my short time in this local board I have come to see how active the moderator @igebotz use to be when it comes to pushing topics to where they belong or deleting the topic completely when it's completely out of place. We should all understand that this local board is not completely under @Igebotz to run the way he so wishes, there are still higher regulations and standards which this local board would still need to meet to avoid sanctions and this is why the moderator is always active to checkmate every post and topics from members and that is very commendable.

I disagree with you when you said that topics that can only remain in the main niger board are those crypto related topics, because there are some crypto related topics which was moved to off topic. That's to prove to you that be it crypto related topic or not so far as you didn't provide the right information that is expected by our moderator, or let's take for instance your post is not as quality as he expected definitely your post will be move to off topic. I think this could be the reason why most of our post is been pushed to off topic, though he may also have a Reason for that which is best known to him.
