Following the messages related to a topic about BTC purchases, I noticed that many users were hodlers and had never bought anything in BTC, but perhaps early adopters regret their past purchases? In the case of Laszlo Hanyecz (purchase of two pizzas for 10,000 btc in 2010), he said he had no regrets because it helped raise awareness of Bitcoin and promote its use as a currency.

What about you? Do you regret past purchases?
If someone has purchased Bitcoin in the past, then they should not regret buying Bitcoin. Because if someone has purchased $100 worth of Bitcoin in the past, meaning since 2010, by now the amount of that Bitcoin has become hundreds of millions of dollars. However, it is natural that those who knew about Bitcoin at that time but did not invest will regret it in the present time. However, Laszlo Hanycez's case is different because he sold Bitcoin at that time according to the price of Bitcoin in the market. But later, such a revolution of Bitcoin has taken Bitcoin to a different level. However, if Laszlo Hanycez had not exchanged goods for Bitcoin at that time, then the acceptance of Bitcoin would not have spread all over the world in the present time.

I've never bought anything using Bitcoin before because it's banned in my country.

Of course there was a little regret when buying bitcoin prices were cheap and then sold because of the need to need money, but I had to realize that it was more important than continuing to HOLD but torturing ourselves.

Now there is no need for regrets anymore, the future is still bright bitcoin can still be high from what we expect, so just keep buying.

What about you? Do you regret past purchases?
Making Bitcoin purchases has not yet been made seamless in my country. In fact, such Bitcoin transactions are not attractive to either customers or business owners due to the regulatory circumstances surrounding the use of cryptocurrency in the country.

However, I have at some point used crypto casinos where I had to pay with Bitcoin. Believe me, I do not regret any decision I've made so far about spending my Bitcoin. It is indeed a thing of pride to be able to carry out such a transaction. I just hope that in the future, Bitcoin becomes more stable so people will no longer find excuses for why they can't carry out transactions with it. Maybe if there should be an excuse, it should be on the side of regulatory clarity.

What about you? Do you regret past purchases?

Well, Satoshi originally envisioned Bitcoin to be used as a currency by the masses. It's just that mainstream media/propaganda changed people's perception of it. Now almost everyone considers it to be a digital store of value (or digital Gold). Some say volatility is an issue when it comes to using BTC as currency. That's mostly true if you're relying on Fiat as a standard unit of account. But if you're one of the few who believes 1 BTC = 1 BTC no matter what, volatility shouldn't be much of a concern to you.

Do I regret using BTC during past purchases? No, I don't. I'm glad to have used BTC the way it was meant to, regardless of its current market price. I guess that's the same mindset Laszlo had when he paid for two pizzas with 10k BTC. I know most people will regret having used BTC as currency, because they're only focused on the profits. It's what dominates the crypto space these days. Why do you think old coins with good ideals and tech are now long lost, and forgotten? Because everything moves around money these days. If VCs, institutional investors, and whales aren't convinced, the coin won't be going anywhere. At least, I know Bitcoin will outlast many of the centralized and overhyped "shitcoins" in the future.

Oh for sure. Past purchases of things have amounted to a lot in today bitcoin dollars. Which is kind of sad when I think about how much more I could have if I didn't get that stupid coin or what have you. Sometimes it is painful to deal with it but hey life goes on haha

yeah, Bitcoin was designed to be a digital currency, but the reality is that most folks where I live, and probably other places too, arent really using it to purchase their food or pay bills.  Most folks are just treating it as an investment. Its all about what people see as the most profitable use for it, and for now, thats mostly holding onto it.  Why isnt it used more like regular money? Well, governments are still skeptical of it, and still, barely any stores actually take it and  also, the price can swing wildly making it tough for everyday buys.

But, to actually answer your question, yes, I have used Bitcoin to make purchases, and I definitely intend to do so again in the future. Do I have any regrets about past purchases? Absolutely not! They seemed like good decisions at the time, and honestly, I never want to look back on them with regret.

I've only been here for a few years and until now I still haven't tried to make a purchase using bitcoin or use bitcoin as legal tender because I knew that it wouldn't be very good if I did it in my country which still makes a ban on the use of bitcoin as a means of payment and is only still used as a commodity asset.

Not that I don't want to try but I still want to obey the existing rules because even though bitcoin is not used as legal tender but the government's response in my country to bitcoin is still quite good so there is no harm for me to obey the current rules.

But if in the end there is a change in regulation and I can pay using bitcoin I might try that and I will never regret what I did later, because for me what is bought according to my needs then that is enough regardless of how the price will change or not I think it doesn't matter because what we buy today will definitely adjust to the current price as well as bitcoin so why regret what we have done in the past because in the end it will also not have any impact on the present or the future.

What about you? Do you regret past purchases?
I think there is no regret if it happened in 2010, all we understand how much Bitcoin is at that time and what is the price of pizza.
As in the data.
Quote
What is the value of 1 Bitcoin in 2010? The price of Bitcoin never reached $1 in 2010! The highest price in that year was only $0.39! 2010 was the year of the purchase of two dominos pizza for 10,000 BTC.

Well, if compared to the current Bitcoin price, maybe with 10,000 BTC you are not only pizza that you can buy, instead you can also buy pizza, so you are mistaken if you compared BTC in 2010 with the current BTC price.

yeah, Bitcoin was designed to be a digital currency, but the reality is that most folks where I live, and probably other places too, arent really using it to purchase their food or pay bills.

Since most people are using BTC as a store of value instead of a currency, why bother making off-chain scaling solutions such as the Lightning Network? It's no wonder why LN transactions are still low these days. People prefer to use altcoins as a currency than Bitcoin itself. Not what Satoshi would've wanted, anyways.

At this point, it's too late to change people's mindset. Especialy when "Wall Street" is in the game. Besides, volatile market prices make people think twice before using BTC as a currency. You're free to use Bitcoin as you wish. It's a "free" (as in liberty) cryptocurrency, after all. Smiley

So many people do not have the opportunity to spend BTC because they cannot find a merchant around them who accepts BTC for payment. However, i don't think anyone is going to spend BTC now and regret it, because right now we know how high BTC price can rise, so if you do not have so many coins, you will probably spend just a little of what you have, maybe on a cup of coffee, or something similar, and there is nothing to regret in that.

It is difficult to get someone who would spend a lot of their coins on something expensive, except the person is a whale, who has a lot of coins; unlike in the early days when people mined BTC on their laptop and could spend a lot of it, bitcoiners even gave out free BTC through faucets.

What about you? Do you regret past purchases?
I don't buy anything with my Bitcoin because I can't spend anything with it. If I did and I was caught doing so, then I could get caught in a country where Bitcoin is not legal tender.
Besides, I still don't have a plan if I'm in a country where spending with Bitcoin is allowed by law, so I probably won't pay with Bitcoin. I don't want to even though Bitcoin is a digital currency.
I understand that using your bitcoins as a means of payment is prohibited, but you can sell your bitcoins for fiat money on the exchange and spend them, and many of us have probably done this and spent our bitcoins. If you never touch your bitcoins, that's really good. There have been many times in the past when I spent bitcoins, sometimes I can't help but think about them, and sometimes I just say forget it.

The best thing to do is not to think about the bad, make a plan for today and stick to that plan. Because questioning what you did in the past will not bring us anything good.

There’s no reason to regret especially if you also benefit from your purchase. If that’s part of your life’s plan and you were able to achieve it through bitcoin because you lack some fiat funds, that is more an achievement for you.

One will only regret if he only uses it for his unnecessary want and spend a lot, and eventually lose the value of that item after days or months after purchase. He should have saved and hold his bitcoin for a much higher value, rather than spend on an item that is no longer useful in the long run.

You will obviously regret if you hold too much bitcoin in the past and the equivalent money is around million dollars. In reality those people also regret because it's a life changing and even they said they're part of the history, nah, a lot will forget the value is the most important thing. I used some btc in the past for education purposes 'cause I really need that money I regret because it costs a lot today but I'm justifying everything that I've used it for a better future.

yeah, Bitcoin was designed to be a digital currency, but the reality is that most folks where I live, and probably other places too, arent really using it to purchase their food or pay bills.  Most folks are just treating it as an investment. No one will use that to pay food, I rather use a digital fiat than spending bitcoin which is every day an increase happens. It's fine to treat bitcoin as an investment because if you think it's the most profitable way then it's normal.

Should we really take that from him? That there isn’t just that part of him that tells him, you did this wrong man! There would always be that part that tells him, you ought to have hodl. For the little I have had to sell, I do recollect on them once in a while and thought to myself, I should have hodl more strongly. In truth, I did need to sell.

For Laszlo, I think it was more of trying out this new initiative. It isn’t all that negative though, it got his name out, it gave him fame and his remembered for something in the Bitcoin history. Maybe he could make something from that too.

So long as I've been in the space for so long, so long as I've experienced many seasons of Bitcoin journey since 2016, I got nothing to worry about thinking the quantity of Bitcoin acquired earlier on because I'm not new in this crypto space, 5he prices of Bitcoin had always been this way but I'm going to put smile on your face if I say this year price movement and volatility is different than others years, it's really massive and amazing.

And why would you pay bills or food with Bitcoin? You can just use fiat currencies, there's no point in using Bitcoin for something that accessible. It's quite reasonable with such a high value to be treated as an investment asset and not a digital currency to be used in our daily lives. I haven't used it in the past years for any purchases, but I have done it in the past (more than 5 to 7 years ago). With that being said, I don't "regret" using Bitcoin for those purchases, because back then I couldn't have made it with fiat, because I didn't have a card on my name (I was still a teenager). However, the amount I had spent in Bitcoin then is equivalent to a few thousand dollars now.

In fact, this is exactly why we cannot and do not want to use bitcoin as a currency or payment method, because it is a valuable asset and can bring great benefits if held for a long time. Why would we waste such an asset just for daily payments when we already have fiat? People say it's because their government hasn't legalized bitcoin yet or there are no stores accepting bitcoin around them...but the real reason is that no one wants to do it, no one wants to spend their bitcoins.

Some people have spent their bitcoins in the past but that is because they did not realize the value of bitcoin and the price of bitcoin was not as high as it is now. Likewise, I used to do that, but now I don't want to do that anymore.

Nah, I don't regret any of it. First of all, there's nothing you can do to change the past, so why bother wasting time regretting tings. Second of all, being able to use Bitcoin as a currency is what gives it its value. If everybody just sat on it and waited for the number to go up, it would be the same as any crypto ponzi, and it wouldn't be nearly as valuable as it is today.

Second of all, being able to use Bitcoin as a currency is what gives it its value.

It's the title itself and the first sentence of the abstract of the whitepaper[1]:

Quote
Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System

Quote
A purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash would allow online
payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a
financial institution.

The point is to use Bitcoin as a currency, meaning that there is not "price" of bitcoin, but "exchange rate" of bitcoin. It's supposed (since day 0) to be used as a currency and not as a savings asset.
