If gambling was illegal in your country, would you still gamble?

What I know in Japan is that there are certain games that can be used as a means of gambling (legally) such as horse racing and some motor sports but for other games it is illegal and of course with a country that is quite law-abiding, in the end this will clearly be considered a violation and get strict sanctions.

But on the other hand I think what needs to be underlined here is the total gambling he did, obviously it is very large for the size of ordinary citizens and clearly there needs to be a limit for this.

In my own country, gambling is actually still illegal as it is in most countries but because the law is quite weak and with several conditions including government officials also sometimes doing it and with several conspiracies said to be government officials who are still backing gambling in my country, gambling in my country is still very much to this day. I realize that it is a bad thing but indeed in the end with weak laws like this then I also fell into it even though the views of some people may be negative but that is the fact.

I think that the only problem here was that he did too much for a limit. And that's why he's arrested for that, but if he's not able to reach the limit and surpass it, he won't be hot in the eyes of the police.

Japan has a strict rule for gambling but it is not illegal there. As long as the gamblers are not passing through the limits set to them, they should be fine.

It's also why rules are made them to avoid the gamblers become addicted to it.

As per checking on the internet it seems its legit that the Japan banned with the gambling, but in that case imagine how huge amount they are willing to make a bet and for sure its will be notified the attention of the casino and the government because possible its not a right hand to wage with that large sum of money, if were him and in my country does not support with the gambling I wont play anymore its just a life and satisfaction decision right here I can live without playing gambling.

Of course not. I will just be wasting money, effort, and time just because of my urge to gamble. If it's illegal, just go with it. Look for another hobby and just let it go.

Regarding the case of the said man, I think it was unwise of him to do such a thing, and worse, that's a lot of money that he gambled away. If he is just testing the waters, he could've stuck with small amounts. I am guessing something else is hidden in this news, and the link loads way too long. Could it be just a made-up story for an article and advertising? Maybe.

They have specific age limitations and some specific restrictions depending on the form of gambling, but it isn't illegal, and you won't go to jail if you follow them. The countries that prohibit gambling are either those whose religion forbids it, or their regime is totalitarian, or they are too poor to allow it to their citizens. In terms of numbers, there are fewer than the ones that allow it.

Gambling is illegal in my country for decades now and I've been gambling for more than a decade now LOL.
Is it wrong, yes it is but since I love it then I dont care about the law but of course I know the consequences of what I'm doing.
There are millions of gamblers in my country who are actively gambling every day.
Gambling was legal in the past in my country, it was like a tradition already so maybe this is the reason why there are still many gamblers in my country although it is illegal.

Man, what are you saying? Did you actually read what you posted here to be sure of the amount of money that was mentioned? Even in my country where gambling is legal, if a person is known to have placed bets worth this amount of money in one go, he or she would be arrested and investigated, atleast he or she would have to explain and provide proof of his source of income and why he or she is spending that much on betting.

So if the authorities in Japan arrested the dude on the ground for how much money he spent on betting, they have the right to, they can only investigate him to ensure he has a legal source of income and also that he is not laundering money.
And for the case of gambling being banned in Japan, this is a different case altogether if you ask me.

Their was a time when crypto was still very illegal in my country and in most countries but some will smuggle their way in to transact with it, even in a case where dealth is the penalty and punishment for a particular crime some will still involve in it.

Personally I won’t want to get myself in trouble with law enforcement agents if they say gambling is ban I will obey if I’m from those countries where laws are strictly followed, but here in my country I might get involve and still gamble because I know they will not be after small gamblers like myself but they have target of those who they will go after immediately they notice they break the law of the country.

No of course. Because all those hard work on breaking the odds just for being lucky will be useless when you got caught. Even cryptocurrency can be tracked once you convert it to fiat since the bank can do backtracking to your transactions especially if the amount is huge like in this topic.

He is gaining 100+ million dollar on an illegal activity online on a country with good government regulations. The subject surely has a steel balls on risking more on gambling illegally despite knowing that government can caught him.

There was a guy who thought that trafficking two pounds of cannabis in Singapore is no big deal, he got executed, meanwhile in Minnesota, you can stroll around with 2 ounces or have 2 pounds of those plants in the bedroom without anyone caring. Same for firearms or such, he knew too well the laws and the consequences.

You are right indeed for without laws, the world we live in would be a completely messed up place, even God after bringing the children of Israel out of Egypt and in the wilderness saw that without giving them a law to abide on, they would all live a useless life and all die shameful death, so He gave Moses the ten commandment.

So also like I said before, in the present world we live in, without laws, our community will be messed up, so it's very important that we abide to the law or every community we find ourself, and if for any reason, a law isn't favoring us, we can always move to another community with a better and more favorable law, like the gambler for example, if his arrest was solely based on the fact that he was found gambling when gambling is banned in Japan, he would have have moved to a different country where gambling is is banned, and there, he can gamble all he wants without getting into issues wit the authorities, but personally though, I still believe that the amount of money he spent on that betting contributed greatly to his arrest, nothing anyone can tell me to change my mind.

Even if its legal, I wouldn't wager that much of money to gamble but this Chombayashi seem very rich in Japan so its all up to him. He was caught though. There are lots of places where he could stay and gamble why stay in Japan where its illegal. He could do some places if he really wanted to enjoy gambling.

If the victim is rich like this, then the possible of leaving the country to another just to gamble is there, if he actually know gamble in his country is illegal, and he still hide himself to get involved in it, then its not possible to do so because the government has every tools to fish out the victim all the time. So to avoid all these unnecessary insult, this guy Chombayashi wouldve just take some vacation to another country where gambling is legal to do his thing.

Maybe this guy is pretty good in betting and believe in himself to get any amount he want off gambling, who knows if the amount caught by the government is just the little amount compare to his full balance so far.

For me, it's the other way around: in my country, gambling is legal (in special gambling zones), but I still don't gamble it.

In fact, you should follow the law to avoid problems for yourself. But if you really want to, you can visit other countries where it's legal and play for fun. As far as I know, many tourists do just that.

The reason why he was caught was because he publicly advertised gambling, trying to lure gamblers to use the casino he's affiliated to with making sure that his identity is hidden. This kind of activity should not be made public or better still, he would have hide his location so that the government would not be able to track him.

If gambling is illegal in your country the best action to take is to relocate from your country to a near by country that allows gambling activities. You can always move to the rural area if you are very interested in gambling and making money from bets has been a major source of income. Every gambler must know why they are gambling if it's to make money for fun or for paying of bills.

It has always caught my attention how the japanese government seems to be specially interested on the ability of their citizens to gamble and restrict them from such activity if possible.
Japan is kind of conservative, that is true, but they are also democratic enough to harbor ideas about how positive individual freedoms are and allow their people to what whatever they want with their money.

Anyways, this man knew what he was going was illegal, so he was aware this was a possible outcome to what was he was doing.
If gambling was illegal in my country, I would not try to risk it and access to casinos, because the authoritarian nature of this administration, it is better if one do not give them any reason or valid circumstance for them to lock one up. Though, lately the government in my country has been specially friendly towards casinos, so I don't see something like a total ban happening any time soon.

Countries where gambling is banned are not really helping their people. Whatever the reasons may be, some citizens will still gamble in secret, against the government's rules. If these citizens are very careful, they will never get caught as long as they use anonymous casinos. I am not too comfortable when governments decide how full-grown adults live their lives, especially if their lifestyle isn't harmful to anyone.

In the end, the government will lose revenue that is supposed to be generated from casinos and other gambling platforms, both online and land-based, and the citizens might end up being addicted to gambling in secret and would be scared to publicly ask for help if they face any gambling-related challenges.

If I live in a country where gambling is prohibited, I might not be brave enough to do something that is illegal. But I am certain that many people will break the rules.

As the law said ignorance is not an excuse to evade the law.  Every individual living in a country is subject to rules and regulations implemented by the authorities.  Whether we know it or not we are still subject to whatever it is.  I believe that man knows the law but still continues to gamble.  I bet he was not surprised when he got arrested.

Anyway, asking back @OP, would you gamble if it is illegal in your country?  I won't because I don't like trouble. Just like what I quoted stated, I would not risk my freedom and peace just because of the short-lived enjoyment.

For a gambler, especially if he is addicted to gambling, he probably doesn't care if gambling is illegal or banned in his country, because what he wants is to be able to give and get the
joy he desires from gambling.

Now, if gambling is banned in a country, there's nothing we can do about it, like, if you do it and get caught, you're definitely going to jail, but if you gamble and don't get caught,
you won't go to jail, it's just that you'll be wanted like a criminal.
