The teams I doubt that they will remain in the top 8 is Newcastle and Liverpool as they don't have the enough potential to be at this position at the end of the first phase of the champions league. If only they can rebuild(Liverpool) to play more and more better for the games they have in hand, then they are likely of being part of the top 8. Newcastle just needs to continue with the tempo as they have been playing lately, by so doing they have a spot in the top 8, but looking at it, we know that it will not be an easy one as we still have some tough teams below these positions.

I think you don’t have much stronghold to doubt the likes of Liverpool and Newcastle to finish in the top 8, because this team are playing well in the Champions League and not playing well in the Premier League, I think you can’t predict teams that will finish in the top 8 and does finishing in the top 8 really matters ? Liverpool seem to be having difficulties in the premier league but they are doing well in the champions league, you can see that they have won three of their four matches in the champions league, and losing only one which was against Galaterssary and the only goal they conceded in that match was through a penalty kick. they are already among the top eight teams in the champions league table currently and they seem to be gradually having their confidence back especially after beating Real Madrid in their last champions league match, so i think Liverpool wont have any problem qualifying from the group stage.

I would say that Newcastle appearing here is more unexpected, and judging by Liverpool’s game against Real, I think reaching the top 8 should be achievable for Liverpool. Overall, the top 8 fairly reflects the strength of these teams. In the next round, the leaders will play each other, but it seems to me that the new format has changed the intrigue in the Champions League, when Bayern plays PSG and Arsenal already in the group stage, it’s too early. I prefer the old format.

Newcastle united are slowly becoming a top team again and shouldn't be underestimated because I think they can do well in the champions league. They mightn't be there yet to be able to win the tournament but they have the squad to go far and there aren't many teams that can defeat them comfortably. Newcastle united are still going to finish in the top 5 of the premier league this season too because they have a good squad. The champions League is a league that any team with a good squad and manager can win and if Newcastle plays well then they have a chance.

I think it’s still too early for such predictions; the season has just started, and it will be very long and tiring. 
Everyone had already given up on Liverpool before the match with Real, but Liverpool showed that they still have quality and strength and that it was just a temporary crisis in form and results. 
The group stage of the Champions League can be played poorly without it affecting a club’s chances of winning the European title; the best example of this is PSG last season.

This format is not still bad as it is till encouraging, I believe, with time it will definitely get use to the teams. Why I strongly believe, for those teams that will still be on top 8, I doubt for Liverpool, no matter the win they got against real Madrid, I believe that is because they where desperate to win them, but it will be hard for them to continue.
