As you are investing make sure you are also learning , understanding what are investing in will help build your confidence more . The reason many are still having doubt about Bitcoin is because they don't understand the technology behind it, the purpose it was invented the first place .

No, I’m not saying you should go into some complex tech aspect of bitcoin before investing. You can start with just the basics, then with time you will advance as you accumulate. Doing so you will be able to build a better confidence in bitcoin and it will make embarking folks (those interested in bitcoin) easier too .

Investing is a process, so far someone is doing it the right way, the person would definitely learn new things on the long run, even if there's a mistake along the line you’ll learn from it an take correction. For instance those who stored their coins with coldcard would learn to store in a safer wallet by moving it to a wallet backed with passphrase.

What people need to start investing is discretionary funds, with common sense they can figured out other things and gain knowledge simultaneously while on the investment.
Agreed, but not all mistakes are corrected or can be safely learned from. In that case, a mistake can remain a lifelong cry. For example: A person has accumulated Bitcoin for 5 years but lost the coins due to incorrectly storing the seed phrase. Then there may be no opportunity to correct such a mistake. So I think it is important to have at least basic security knowledge before investing.

Start small by learning about the basics and security of Bitcoin then increase knowledge along with investing and the investment money shouldn't put daily needs, emergency funds or future essential expenses at risk. It is important for everyone to know these things. However, the more expensive the mistake, the more people will remember the lessons they learn from it for the rest of their lives.

Before investing, a beginner only needs a discretionary income, not Having basic security knowledge shouldn’t be a reason why they can’t start buying and investing In bitcoin. Basic security knowledge is good, but that is not what is required  to kickstart bitcoin investment . What is needed before investing in bitcoin is just a discretionary income and the moment newbies have a discretionary income then they can start investing in bitcoin. They don’t need to delay investing because of basic security knowledge, they can still learn about their bitcoin security even after they might have started investing in bitcoin as what matters most is if they have a discretionary income available to kickstart their investment journey. Basic security knowledge is not the requirement for startups, what is required is a discretionary income to use and start accumulating bitcoin and along the line they can learn every other thing and also through their experience while they are accumulating and investing In bitcoin.

I don't think that it's important to have the basic security knowledge of bitcoin before you get started because the basic knowledge that you are saying might not be basic security knowledge to someone else and it might be a big deal to him which is why there is no need of that since, in the beginning of your bitcoin investment, you will be storing it in an exchange i.e your first purchased bitcoin since, you are DCAing.

All a brand new investor needs is his discretionary income and the exchange to buy his first bitcoin for him to get started with his bitcoin investment. He can learn everything he needs to know gradually, as he is building his bitcoin stash overtime. Let's not deprive ourselves from starting immediately, because delay is dangerous and bitcoin investment is a long-term which gives you enough time to learn and improve your knowledge overtime.

If the device you are installing the wallet on remains intact for 5 years, you will not need the seed phrase. I have installed a non-custodial wallet on my phone and have written the seed phrase on paper in multiple places. I have not written down the security key anywhere, I just remember it. Every investor should pay attention to the security of their Bitcoin wallet because if the device on which it is stored is lost or damaged for any reason, you will have to restore that wallet.

I would tell a new investor to study about Bitcoin wallet security because after holding Bitcoin for a long time, if you lose your Bitcoin for any reason it will be an unexpected loss. In this age of information technology you can learn about everything you want to know online.

Many tends to mistake basic knowledge for something else , some folks even use it as a means to procrastinate. Basic knowledge about Bitcoin is literally knowing how to buy , where to buy , and how to store etc. I will always speak base on experience and reality . Yes some folks started their investment with the help of others without having to do much of the research themselves. I've helped many like that . While some stumble upon Bitcoin on their own and they had to make research thoroughly before investing .

I will just say this everyone are different . May be in your own journey you didn't have to do much when starting you had someone that was there to do it for you before you start learning as you further accumulate. While there others that stumble on it on their own , that's why I will always keep saying , as you go into bitcoin make sure you are familiar with the basic concept of bitcoin investment.

There are still some new folks in this forum that haven't started their bitcoin investment yet . Being here you have already have some edge more than those that are at there without any proper information. There are lots of valuable information here in this forum that won't take much time to go through it but will help one secure a smooth investment, thread like JayJuanGee 9 principle of investment. The goal is to stop procrastinating and start taken action in building a proper investment in bitcoin.

A new person does not need to learn everything about security to start investing. People usually learn as they start working and become more skilled over time. This also applies to Bitcoin. A new investor may not know the details of Bitcoin technology, private keys, seed phrases, or various types of security measures at the beginning. Not having complete knowledge of these matters should not delay starting investing indefinitely. Not having basic knowledge of security should not be an obstacle to starting investing. This does not mean ignoring security completely. A new investor does not need to know about all types of security measures at the beginning. But it is good to have an idea of some of the necessary things to protect your assets. The important things to start investing in Bitcoin are financial preparation, realistic goals, and a learning mindset. It is not mandatory to know every aspect of security in advance. But it is also not right to avoid the responsibility of learning about the necessary security measures.

A mistake is one thing that you shouldn't give even the smallest chance when it comes to doing bitcoin investments. Because that smallest mistake you make can either results to you losing access to your coin forever or spend maybe high amount on fees unknowingly, simply because you are a complete newbie. However, despite the fact how knowledge about Bitcoin shouldn't be the primary factor that either encourage or discourage an individual from investing in it Bitcoin, knowing these two things is important, of which number one has to do with the Newbie knowing that bitcoin is a volatile asset, and he/she shouldn't be expecting to get rich quick from it. While another has to do with using a few percentage of your discretionary income.

It is not mandatory to have so-called basic knowledge before starting investing. Where you yourself do not know exactly how much basic knowledge you have. Buying Bitcoin in small amounts for the first time and storing a few years of savings in your wallet is not a one-time task. I am not saying that learning security issues is not important, rather I am saying that the so-called basic knowledge that people say can be a barrier to starting in most cases. Therefore, if someone has discretionary income, he can start without hesitation. In this, he gets the opportunity to learn based on real experience at the same time.

I frequently assert that guys do not need to resolve any of the 9 individual factors prior to getting started buying bitcoin, but instead, all that bitcoin beginners need to resolve is that they have discretionary funds available.  If they have discretionary funds available then they can get started buying bitcoin and they can figure out their 9 individual factors as they go.  Another requirement is common sense, yet I presume that 97% or more of normal people have common sense, so we do not need to talk about it, even though surely practicing buying bitcoin may well end up involving the use of common sense for guys to determine when to start buying bitcoin and if so how much to start to buy... So for example a guy who knows that he has $100 per week in discretionary funds, his common sense, might help to guide him into deciding to invest some smaller amount, such as $30 per week as he learns about any other matters that he believes to be relevant to his buying bitcoin and/or his managing of his cashflows.

1) Self-Custody is a right.  Resist being labelled as: "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

Your first 5 lines still making it sound like folks need to become experts before they can start investing in Bitcoin, so that they don’t make any mistake. Well, I understand that some mistakes in Bitcoin can be costly, especially losing access to wallet. But we have to be realistic here, because there is no way someone that is just starting out will quickly understand all these things you mentioned. After a person decides how much he can comfortably use to buy bitcoin out of his discretionary income, without further delay… he can be storing the bitcoin in the exchange his buying while learning and broadening knowledge in those areas you mentioned and more.

What every one needed to get started with their bitcoin investment is having their discretionary income at their reach and also need to have common sense, discretionary income is mandatory to get started with our BTC investment, getting started after you have figured out their discretionary income, you can learn more and know more about bitcoin as you are investing.

Anybody who get started without using what is know to be their discretionary income is gambling with their investment, no discretionary income no BTC investment.

No @Umulala-alala Don't make discretionary income mandatory for Bitcoin. There are many who don't have discretionary income like a student who is still studying. These guys accumulate Bitcoin with the funds they have. They accumulate Bitcoin by saving money they get from their parents, they don't have discretionary income, they are learning about Bitcoin and buying within their economic capability because they have discretionary funds. In the future, these guys will be more motivated to accumulate Bitcoin when they enter the job and earn money.

Before you start buying bitcoin you must have discretionary income and without discretionary income you don't need to start buying bitcoin because you only put your self into financial pressures by using money that is meant for your basic needs. Even if you are a student and you don't have discretionary income, you are not to buy bitcoin. If you used money for your essentials needs like your house rent, school fees and money for your daily upkeep to buy bitcoin. You will have no option to sell your bitcoin when the need for this money arise , which you may even sell at loss.  Using discretionary income will help you to remain consistent and to avoid making decisions based on emotions.

Do not argue blindly because Umulala-alala is right.
For anyone to invest in bitcoin and be successful, he needs to invest only from his discretionary income, so if you are talking about how some students are saving up and investing with it, don't you know that the money they were able to save is a left over money after they have finish sorting out their basic needs?
What's the difference between that money and a discretionary income if I may ask?
Because it seems like you don't really know the true definition of a discretionary income, that's why you are arguing blindly.

That can be balanced dear if the person divide their discretionary income, and use some to ongoingly invest and also use some for saving for emergency funds along the way.

Also know that increasing the amount of your investment do not mean that you are increasing the risk of selling your stash . What matter is where the money you are investing is coming from. If the investment money is from your discretionary income then am sure that you will have solved your necessary needs before setting aside the one that is remaining for bitcoin. So as long as you continue using your discretionary income to ongoingly invest and also building your emergency funds along the way then I don't think it will be risky investing big % of that your discretionary income.

Talking about only the highlighted statement in your write up, investing a large percentage of your discretionary income in Bitcoin can be problematic to your investment if you have not already put down a reserve funds that can sustain you and your investment for a period of three months or more, because it's only proper that you invest only 33.3% of your discretionary income if you are just starting with no formal back up funds in place already, because by doing it that way, you can have rooms to make provisions for your back up funds and discretionary consumption.

It is only reasonable to invest a large portion of your discretionary income when you have already secured a sizeable backup funds that is strong enough to sustain you and your investment for months, not when you are just starting and is still trying to put down your back up funds in place.
If the emergency fund is not sufficient, investing a large portion of discretionary income can create problems. This does not mean that it is appropriate to invest only 33.3% at the beginning. The 33.3% calculation you mentioned could be an example. But not everyone's situation is the same, if someone has a large deficit in their emergency fund, it may be necessary to reduce the investment portion further. On the other hand, if someone's existing savings and income are relatively stable, it may not be necessary to maintain the same ratio. 33.3% may be logical for you, but for someone else, it may be the wrong decision. Therefore, when calculating the ratio, you must let the individual decide. The decision that the individual makes based on their own situation may be more realistic than the ratio you have given.

Using discretionary income will help you to remain consistent and to avoid making decisions based on emotions.
That will depend on if you have a reliable source of discretionary income. There's no way you can accumulate bitcoin consistently unless you have a reliable source of discretionary income. Some investors has a source of income but they struggle to figure out their discretionary income to invest.  The reason is that they spend too much on unnecessary things. If they can reducing their expenditures on things that they don't actually need, they will be able to figure out their discretionary income and invest in bitcoin. If they allocate those money that they spend on things that they don't need and invest it in bitcoin, I believe it will serves them a greater purpose over time.

On most occasions it's not just about waste or spending on unnecessary things, but it's more of low income that cannot properly take care of all their needs, so if any investor find themselves in such a situation, the best thing they should be doing is to look for an additional source of discretionary income, because without having a discretionary income left after taking proper care of their basic needs, they cannot invest and do it the right way.

You are right about this, most person don't even know there things that are not necessary or will I say are needed at the time being, people should learn how to spend wisely, if not the excuse of there are many things are I'm catering for will continue to hinder them from investing, problem does not finish, and aside that people should learn how to manage their finances very as that will have a lot to say about their future, reckless spending is the worst habit, people will always say, should it be investment alone, we never said so but investment like Bitcoin is worth it, and as for those has what it takes to invest, our discreationary income is not suppose to be a problem for the said investment since there is a source where it can easily come from.

Having a reliable source of discretionary income can be a prerequisite for long term investment. But the problem here is that your weekly expenses will not remain the same, sometimes the amount of expenses may increase and sometimes it may decrease. In such a situation you need to adopt a consistent policy in fund management by keeping a certain amount where you allocate it for Bitcoin, as well as for keeping an emergency fund and even for personal expenses. Almost everyone will make unnecessary expenses in which case they can use personal funds that are a part of discretionary income. As you learn to understand that Bitcoin will become more valuable in the future and that the value of fiat will decrease due to inflation, you will want to accumulate Bitcoin regularly and build up more Bitcoin holding for the future.

If someone is struggling to meet their basic needs to live, then investing in Bitcoin is not mandatory for them, and even investing is not mandatory for anyone. However, for those who want to invest, especially those who are interested in investing in Bitcoin, the biggest obstacle to investing is patience and lack of long-term planning. No matter how poor they are, there are very few people who do not save. So if that saving is small and if it is long-term, then regular income is not required to do that. There are many people who do seasonal business or developer business. Their income is not regular, but if they want to invest patiently and long-term, then it is possible. Many people say that if someone does not have a discretionary income, then long-term investment in Bitcoin is not possible, but I think regular income is not necessary for investment, but desire and money are important. If a beggar wants and has an idea about Bitcoin, then he can also invest. The purpose of any investment is to make life better in the future with that money and use it to fulfill the needs and hobbies/desires of life.
Therefore, there is no need to ruin today's life to make tomorrow's life beautiful, but it is wise to keep today's life intact and invest/save some for the future.
