What’s your real definition of a “win” in gambling?

So why do we keep gambling, and why is the industry still growing? There must be some benefit we’re getting out of it, otherwise, we’d just be wasting money, and only a fool would keep doing that, right?

I see no major benefit we get from gambling. The reason why people continue doing this is that they want to take the prize. Despite their losses, they never change their mind, as they are still firm with their main goal. We still see responsible gamblers, but we can't deny the fact that the majority are irresponsible. They do not enjoy gambling anymore. They come solely for money.

It never sounds good, but yes, it was difficult to make someone change when their mind was already trapped in a situation of addiction.

You are absolutely right, I've read a lot of people both in this forum and outside the forum emphasize on the fact that every gambler loses in the long run, and yet, the number of gamblers isn't reducing but increasing, meaning that even more people are becoming gamblers..

What i understand is that, many gamblers are simply gambling, hoping and waiting for the big breakthrough, but unfortunately, this is scarce and often times only a very few lucky ones have really experienced such breakthrough from gambling, this set of people keep trying not minding the amount of money they lose in the process.

For someone like myself who don't really depend on gambling for income, winning for me simply stands for the fun I enjoy while gambling, and anytime I win money, it's like a bonus..
Gambling can be easy or hard for us, it all depends on how we see and treat it.

Winning is a pretty obvious thing: it means you made profit, you risked your money and in exchange you turned it into a bigger amount of money than it originally was. However, winning is definitely not the reason why gamblers keep coming back to gamble further, because most gamblers are losing the more they play. Gamblers come back due to another factors, such as chasing losses or being addicted to gambling.

They may aim to win, but that is just a daydream, since mathematics are playing against them in gambling games.

Chasing losses mostly. I have been there, which is why I can tel,l and I think many gamblers do feel the same way.

The urge to get back what we lost, and when we get it all back and some more, that's when greed will come, thinking we are lucky and might have a chance to win, until we are back to the same losses we had before.
Sometimes, it becomes stressful, and I think the only way to escape it is to quit. IMO, the real winner is the quitter who never came back to gamble again. It means he or she will not lose money again, and the stress will be gone, thinking about the losses and trying to get it back.

I have been pondering on something essentially similar to this about smoking. Why do people spend money on smoking even when it's clearly written "smokers are liable to die young". At least, for gambling you can be hopeful of winning some huge amounts someday as you continue gambling responsibly.

Connoting it In the actual sense of it generally, winning even in gambling means "progress" to me. When a gambler wins it gives him a sense of progress which encourages him towards the possibility of a bigger win next time. And that's what keeps him coming back, for that  chance of a huge win hoped for.

You are the right, although people's reason for gambling are different...some continue gambling despite the number of losses that they have because they believe that they are going to win a jackpot and there are also others that just derive pleasure in doing in it, the thrill doesn't come from winning or losing they are just locked into it.. whatever the reason might be it's important not to get addicted

Actually, I could see some people to have been lucky in previous gambling sessions and then (after winning a significant amount of money once) try to replicate the same outcome by continuing to gamble, probably in the same game and in the same casino.
In the end, those kind of attempts won't end up well for the person trying to get money because of the edge of the house and since it is very unlikely for a luckily event to take place twice.

On the gamblers who wager money for fun, I think they are more than we initially could assume, rather than a binary system, it could be an spectrum between both extremes: profit or fun.

I guess in that case, we don’t really need a huge bankroll. With that mindset, we want to win big but can’t start with a big bankroll, it’s more like we’re just chasing the jackpot. So we keep gambling, lose most of the time, but don’t stop because we’re always hoping that one day we’ll hit a big win. But what happens next? Do we stop? First of all, I gamble responsibly and I make sure to use what I can afford to loose. I don't always win in gambling but what makes me keep coming back is the fun of it, the thrills and the few bottles of drinks I share with my friends while watching the game, so my definition of "winning" is not loosing my life's savings or not getting a heart attack in the game of gambling, I have seen people win big in gambling and I have also seen them lose everything trying to double their winnings and thereby losing it all at once, Gambling is stress-free if we gamble responsibly.

And because of this kind of greed, they often face disasters. Where they are not satisfied with small wins, but later they face reality and lose those wins too. The only desire of gamblers is only big wins, but because of this desire, they fall into terrible addiction at one point. In fact, there are many mistakes in people's thinking, they think gambling is very easy, and they think that one can generally win a lot from one bet, but it never happens as per their expectations. The only end result of greedy and addicted gamblers is disappointment and disaster, this is a very true thing so it should not be ignored in any way.

You know, most casino games like slots or roulette are house owned game, so you could hit a big jackpot once or twice or several times if luck favors you, but in the end house will win. Winning over time is kinda impossible with such a game. Even on skill based table games, gamers most often fail to overcome the house edge unless they are a pro whiz.

So if you want to be benefited for long run, avoid house ruled games. I prefer skill based board games like poker. or you could go for sports betting if you are skilled enough to cover that, find out your edge, and keep the bankroll in check.

Chasing jackpot or having passive income from gambling is mostly near to impossible because jackpot never came easily to anyone here luck can work but no strategy or tactics increase chances because things are always on downside.

We continue gambling because we aim to either be entertained or try our luck to win a good sum of money.  The gambling industry is growing because gambling operators see that people are getting hooked on gambling.  The idea of betting small and winning huge is the best stuff to magnet people and trigger their desire to try their luck.

Winning for me is being entertained while not financially affected by the loses.  I keep on gambling to have some entertainment while trying my luck to multiply my bankroll.

I’m not profitable either, most of us aren’t. But why do we keep coming back? It almost feels like magic sometimes.

Thinking about it, I guess it’s the challenge and the fun that keeps me coming back. Sure, sometimes I win, and that gives me a sense of fulfillment, but I always end up trying again. I can’t deny that I lose, but for me, it still feels worth it. That’s just how I feel, and I don’t need to explain or justify to anyone why I gamble.

That's a question we keep asking ourselves but it's funny that we don't have the answer...I was playing crash games today and so many users were Losing money,I kept on asking myself, the game runs for hours and no matter the time you log into it you'll always see people gambling repteadly... what's their drive ? It's the lure of it, and even if we are losing, we wanted to explore and try to see if we will be lucky or not. And most likely that's what makes us gambler stick and continue despite suffering big losses.

Well it's obvious that winning is that you doubled your initial capital or make it multiply. But that is the thing, even if we win, we sometimes doesn't want to stop and then chase for me. And that's why the industry is growing because it seems that we are really attracted to gambling, every year there are thousands or even millions being suckered to this world that we can't get out once we are inside.

There is no other definition for winning, I keep betting not because I always win, but because I enjoy doing it. I like playing slots, for me, it's like playing video games (with the possibility of winning money), I don't spend more than I can afford, and I use betting as my time to relax. That way I can say that I win with fun!

Of course, and it is almost impossible for everyone to gamble just for fun even when money is involved. Some people don't give out money without expecting something in return, Which the fun we are having is supposed to serve as a pay back or return of the money we used to stake our bet, but the thing is most gamblers don't see the fun as a pay back infact some gamblers don't even know anything about fun they just believe that gambling is where to make money they don't regard this aspect of fun but even as that I still believe that there are people out there who is treating gambling as fun.
