Germany DFB Cup 2025/2026 - Discussion and Prediction

as expected, bayern won yesterday's dfb-cup match against leipzig 2-0 (goals: Kane and Diaz) and is back in the semifinals for the first time since 2020
the semifinal pairings will be drawn on february 22... and the following clubs are in the pot: leverkusen, stuttgart, freiburg and bayern

And with Bayern Munich in the mix, it seems likely that victory in the DFB Cup will be Munich's, considering that the remaining opponents are opponents who haven't beaten Bayern Munich this season. We could consider Leverkusen, but they aren't the Leverkusen of old. Meanwhile, with the remaining teams, like Stuttgart and Freiburg, I'm not confident they can match up to Munich and Leverkusen.

The teams advancing to the DFB Cup semifinals are those currently ranked 4th to 7th in the Bundesliga standings.

Bayern Munich's ambitions this season are very big, to collect as many trophies as they can get, now that the DFB has entered the semi-finals, it would be a shame if the results of the previous hard work were missed, even though there is tight competition in the Champions League because it has entered the knockout stages, there is no need to use it as an excuse when opportunities in the DFB can be overcome without having to use all one's strength to win.
It's likely that Leverkusen will face Munich in the final, I doubt it about Stuttgart, let alone Freiburg who are almost out of steam.

This time I'm not expecting Bayern Munich to leave the DFB Pokal trophy to anyone else.    Because it looks like they care about the cup more this year.

Unlike the last 5 years... I even remember them getting eliminated by small teams earlier. It was just because of not giving enough importance to the cup.

Leverkusen aren't as good as they were 2 years ago. Neither Freiburg nor Stuttgart also are strong enough to get past Bayern Munich...

Who knows. Every team has a weak moment where anyone, even the worst teams, can beat them. Bayern Munich will have Bayer Leverkusen as the hardest opponent followed by Stuttgart then Freiburg. All these teams are among the top teams in the Bundesliga. We have to wait for the draw which will take place in February 22 then wait to see the conditions of these teams by April 21 and 22. Maybe many things will change until then.

I think Stuttgart will beat Freiburg for the semi finals. Freiburg just don't look convincing enough you know. They even had a serious difficulty against a team like Hertha which is a 2nd Bundesliga team now.

Leverkusen - Bayern Munich is an interesting one though... Leverkusen was the one who eliminated Bayern Munich in this cup last season.

After this reminder I wonder if we can see it again.

Bayer Leverkusen is so unpredictable this season while Bayern Munich is good but they made few mistakes in the Bundesliga.
In the yesterday's match, Bayer Leverkusen lost against Union Berlin which stopped its unsuccessful strike after that game. This is not promising for the short term. Anyway the game will take place after two months from now, so they have enough time to prepare it.

I read the headline on some well known German newspaper () and it said "brutal draw for Bayern". Lol, what draw could ever be brutal for Bayern? The Bundesliga is so weak that it is literally irrelevant whether they play against Leverkusen or Cottbus. It is ultimately all about Bayern playing their game or not. If they suck, they can lose against anyone as could be seen a few years ago when Kiel kicked them out.

To say that a draw is brutal for them is ridiculous. It is still the DFB Pokal and things can go wrong for Bayern too, but normally they got this already.

is that really the toughest opponent of the three? It could as well have been Stuttgart, which by the way is the third strongest team at home in the Bundesliga right now. However, it often doesn't matter because now Stuttgart flopped against Heidenheim while Leverkusen lost against Union Berlin. It's a clown show. There is no competition for Bayern, but if I had to pick an opponent for Bayern in this round, I think I would have picked Stuttgart at home.

As I am checking the home games table, Dortmund is the only team that didn't lose a game at home this season. Well that statistic will be obsolete when Bayern visited them... The worst thing is that Bayern doesn't even need to win. It doesn't matter how the game ends since they were now able to extend their lead by another two points.

Back to DFB Pokal, I now hope that Bayern and Stuttgart win. I think that would be a final I'd like to watch. Anything else would really not be that much fun.
