Yeah, a positive mindset might not guarantee that a gambler would always be successful, I doesn't mean that you'll always win but when you're in a positive state of mind it helps you make the right choice including gambling responsibly just like you've said it would help the gambler, focus, and thnk of the possible betting options that would enable him win, but when you gamble with emotions it would lead you to make wrong choices that could cause lose chasing and before you know it you'll start exceeding your budget for the day just to recover all you've lose. Optimism is only useful in life with neighbors and family. But when it comes to gambling, which is a business led by an owner who edited the system to his own advantage, or what we call the house edge, there's no such thing as being optimistic. Only algorithms.

I said it before that there's no such thing as pity when it comes to gambling. They will not show mercy to anyone. I would argue that sports betting is a good form of gambling/betting where the percentage of winning is very high, because there is poker. There are some gamblers even though they win's they wouldn't want to quit rather they would be looking for additional way to earn more without knowing that they are also creating additional way to lose more money from their initial winning.
