short answer = YES. Culture will always paying you. If you are smart enough you can learn faster and easily new things since your brain is "trained" to learn.
without an university degree you haven't access to the next level of culture (like how it works accademy). hence most of jobs (private or public) are only for people that have a degree.

long answer = it depends. I mean, if people should spend such effort and economic resources for gaining a title that allow them to find a job... well think abou it.
I have seen that actually most degrees are likewise a way for let you pay for get training on your next job. it means that you cannot really use such info but you're just learning such useless or obselete tasks. if you learn a skill or ability in the same time probably you will have a better profit...

It depends the university you graduated from that will determine how quick you can get a good Job. Those that study law, doctor, business administration, computer science and other good courses in the standard university are doing well in the U.S op, but I know there are some graduate that want their salary to be above every employees in that organization before they will accept the offer from the manager, which is very difficult for such graduates to get job in that country because the management will like to study their performance before the management can increase their salary.

A degree is pretty useless, not just now but for a while. Companies prefer candidates with actual knowledge and skills about the tasks they are recruiting for. In the past, they used to hire top scorers and provide the necessary training for a while at their own cost. But students are not aware of it yet, they spend hundreds of thousands to get a degree but they realize about it's worth only when it's too late.

A degree isn't completely useless if your goal isn't just to be a low-level employee for life. Have you seen any company hiring CEOs, HR directors or assistant directors without requiring a degree?

Depends. Healthcare is always high in demand. Dentists, nurses, medical doctors will have no problems with getting a job no matter what happens. Even AI cannot take their jobs away.

But now we have technology where surgeries can be done remotely, a surgeon doesn't necessarily need to be present at the location. If I am not wrong, China has already demonstrated a surgery using robotic hands that was operated from a different location so it got some risks too.

But it only applies to minor surgeries, not to invasive surgeries such as opening the chest, opening the abdomen to intervene and treat diseases such as heart disease, childbirth...More complex surgeries still require direct intervention by highly qualified physicians as well as support from other medical staff.
Not to mention, after surgery, monitoring and caring for the patient's recovery is very important and only humans can do these things.

I agree 100% unless your going to be a doctor or an attorney there is really not much of a point in getting a degree. Your better off getting certified in some courses its sad because honestly I do believe that cryptocurrency has played a role in this which is killing our middle class american jobs. I used to have a decent gig myself but it was in the trade realizing an learning some things I didn't really want to learn that I cant unlearn now has pushed me into a very unforgiving situation however spiritually I don't think I've ever been more alive. With that being said i'm going to chase a passion and work towards something that is meaningful in life. I am one of the people who are inclined to work for themselves, so the university certificate may not be useful for us. But at the same time, I won't shy away from the truth, I am sure that a university certificate is valuable and has helped a lot and will continue helping many more. This has helped many to build a befitting career and avoid being discriminated against or treated lower. It has helped some people who are now business owners to understand the way of the business and the economics around it.

Courses, matters too, some courses are too professional for you to stay with an employer for too long, provided you know what you are doing. So, the current global employment/unemployment issues and the country we find ourselves in could be serious discouragements.

Regardless, a university certificate will always be a door opener for many.

I don't  know and have never heard of those surveys but even if they are true do you agree with me on one thing? Most of the people who are billionaires , CEOs of companies, organizations, people  with high incomes  and stable lives in this world...are still people with degrees or are fully educated. That alone is enough to prove that degrees are still very important and valuable in today's age . It is not useless or worthless as some unemployed students are spreading .

To be honest , I also have a degree and I didn't get the job I expected,  but I never complained or blamed the degree because I knew clearly it was my fault. Because I didn't really try my best when I was a student, while many of my friends became rich,  even very rich, just because they tried their best. So, unemployed students, instead of blaming education and degree, should ask themselves why their friends have stable jobs and high incomes.

A university degree is worth it only if you want to become an engineer or a doctor. Even lawyers would soon be replaced by AI.
I've heard a weird story about a guy, who won a court case with the help of AI, without having to hire a lawyer.
There are countries, who offer relatively cheap or free university degrees, but that doesn't matter. The US college/university system is very expensive and student debt keeps growing. What's the point getting into thousands of dollars of student debt for a useless diploma?

In a competitive world as this, it's always nice to have every other thing your competitors possess, and still obtain more. Because, what disqualifies a brand from another is a simple feature one has and the other doesn't own. I find it funny how most of the replies here discredit and undermine the value of having a college decree. One thing is certain, Everyone here either possess a degree or at least, in the process to obtain it. Normally, a degree is just a piece of paper and name. It wasn't meant to give you job in the first place. Of course university degree are worth it. Although due to lack of jobs in some countries have really makes so many people feel that school is scam. But even as that, it's very essential for us to be a degree holder because it doesn't necessarily mean that your degree would felch you a job. That is one thing most people normally forget without remembering that, leaning a skill as a degree holder is so important because once you have a good skill that is paying you well, you wouldn't going to bother yourself too much. Where I come from, university degrees are needed for jobs but only to some criteria of people, the class with lots of connection that matters. I will always say it, if you have connections to jobs before going to university, please go.

If you aren't sure of any connections for jobs in my country, the possibility of going to university for degree will likely seems to be waste of time.

Not at all the old way of working one job one company is not completely over, because there are still jobs today that has people working in them, and these companies or organisations will still need people to fill those positions as their staffs keep retiring. What these companies need to do is to make sure they take their workers welfare seriously. Because when staffs are well taken care of and are well paid they won't have need to be looking for extra jobs.

Now, I see many young people having several jobs, working on short projects, or even starting small businesses on the side. In a recent report, more than half of workers noticed more people working two or more jobs

This is because workers are not well paid these days and the harsh economic reality of the day is not is not helping matters. In an event when the salaries are barely enough to sustain the family till the next pay cheque comes in, one have to device other means to get extra income. But if the salaries of workers are constantly reviewed and they well paid, people will be more satisfied with one job. As nobody enjoys working more than they should.

I will say yes because university helps in opening your eyes and shaping your mind. It's not just about the degree that one come out of the university with. A university degree is indeed important, but when the major we are taking is for a field such as business or economics, I think that even without a university degree, everyone can be successful as long as they know how to run it. Because in this case, it is very necessary to see opportunities and also see what many people want where we are so that we can take that to generate profits by providing more products and services. So it all depends on each field because not all fields require someone to have a university degree in order to advance because there are also many unemployed people who have university degrees at this time and cannot do anything.

Someone might come to the thread and propagate the idea that degrees are not important, but I digress. There are quite a few people who have become successful without degrees but they should be treated with salt, they are exceptions.

Education and degrees are important but so are the soft skills and knowing how the field works. These can be learnt with time and experience but one should not get frustrated if they dont get their targets in the first few years of professional life.

Always go after the career path that you like, not something that someone did and you are blindly following it.

For me, university is worth is bro, but I will always tell people to do what they believe will work for them. Apart from the certificate that is offered at the end of the study, students also acquired a great knowledge at the university and such knowledge can actually help at some certain stages of life because there is no knowledge that is a waste. For someone that wants to attent the university, if they already know that they want to get the certificate and seek for a job with it and they later realized that they can get a job without the certificate, then why attend the school? It really depends bro,  but in the medical field, certificate is very important.
